His crying stopped soon after sometime. He just felt so many things at once that his tear glands got triggered. After that they made their way out of the room, with him still supporting Bella.
He still preferred to stay silent because he was damn sure he would sound as dry as a dessert. They all sit at their respective seats.
The doctor was such a chatterbox. She kept saying what to do and what not when expecting a child while they both listened to her. She even gave her a guide for pregnancy which involved her diet charts and other instructions.
Everything was going just fine when Bella asked her the question which immediately forced the doctor to shut her mouth. "If I want to opt for an abortion, how can I do that?"
Lucas darted his eyes towards her when she asked that question. His face which looked so happy earlier, was devoid of any emotions now. For the first time he felt like he can't control this.
He felt like everything will be ruined, his life will be ruined if that baby left this world. But Bella still looked straight at the doctor expecting an answer."Sure you can, it is safe in the first trimester. The risk is also less."
She just thanked her and soon they both made their way out the cabin. The soft hum of the hospital's fluorescent lights still clung to the air as they stepped out into the parking lot.
The silence between them was thick, both of them lost in their own thoughts after seeing the ultrasound. She had expected the worst—nausea, fear, confusion—but when she had seen the baby on the screen, a new, undeniable feeling had taken over her. It was hope.
Although she suggested abortion, a part of her told her she is doing it all wrong. She just asked that out of her instinct. Her heart pounded in her chest as she looked at him.
The father of this baby, the man who had been an enigma to her, now stood beside her in a moment neither of them had expected. He didn't said a word after his crying. Why did he cry? Is he happy or regretful?
She herself didn't talk much and got into his car. He had been quiet on the ride over, only breaking his silence when they arrived at her home. Now, his expression was unreadable, his eyes narrowed as if weighing something heavy.
"Are you okay?" His voice was low, though there was an edge to it that betrayed his uncertainty. She nodded, clutching the strap of her bag a little too tightly. "Yeah. I just… I don't know what to think yet."
He glanced at her, the look in his eyes softening for a brief second before his usual calm demeanor returned. He took a step toward her, closing the distance between them.
"You don't have to make any decisions right now. We'll figure this out, together." She looked up at him, caught between doubt and something else—something that made her chest tighten.
"I didn't expect this, you know? I've never expected it would be like this" Her voice trembled slightly. "I've been doing this alone for five years. I never planned for—" She stopped herself before she said too much, turning her eyes away from him.
He reached out, touching her arm gently but with an undeniable firmness, his thumb brushing over her skin. "You don't have to do it alone this time. Not if you don't want to."
