Chapter 2 - Ruthless Queen

Mu Chen took a deep breath to calm down his nerves as he stared at the massive building of the Baihui Coperation. He pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose delicately as he took in the large company building with its exterior made of glass, giving it modernity and flair. It was the most beautiful building located in the most expensive industrial area of the city.

He had completed school about two years ago and still hadn't been able to land a job. Every job he had applied to required that he had experience. But how was he supposed to get experience if they wouldn't hire him? For the past year, he had been searching for a job endlessly, but unfortunately, he hadn't found one.

He had been doing food deliveries to survive and take care of his mother and younger sister. Because he was hard working and good looking too the customers liked him and gave him good ratings.

One of his older customers had asked him what he had studied at school and when Mu Chen had informed Old man Fu that he had studied finance at the university A which is the top university in the country based on scholarship he had been shocked.

Old Fu had been the one to inform him about this interview. Even though Old man couldn't get him the job with his connections because the CEO hated employing people on merit, he was grateful to him for getting him on the interview list because his daughter worked here. Now he had to depend on himself to get the job.

That's why he was currently standing in front of the Bai Building, the nightmare of everyone in the business world. The CEO was rumored to be the devil's reincarnate. She had high expectations from her workers; she was ruthless, arrogant, and domineering. She has made big men cry in the conference room and made women shake in their shoes.

Taking a deep breath to release the tension in his shoulders, he said his final prayers and made his way through the massive glass door. He went to the receptionist. She was a woman in her mid-twenties and was busy typing something on the computer. Clearing his throat, she finally looked up from the computer, flashing him a dazzling smile.

"Good morning, welcome to the Baihui Coperation. How may I help you, Sir?" she asked, the smile still on her face.

"Good morning, I'm here for the interview for the CEO's assistant position." Mu Chen replied with a smile. She nodded and looked at her computer for a while before asking, "Your name please."

"Mu Chen." Mu Chen replied, holding the folder containing his resume in his arms tighter while he glanced around. The place was busy with people moving up and down. The atmosphere was tense; gosh, it must be torture working under such a high-tension environment, but he heard the pay was the best in the country, so he guessed it was worth it. As they say, no pain, no gain.

"Alright, your name is on the list. The interview is taking place on the fifteenth floor. The elevator is on the right. Good luck." She said, pulling Mu Chen from his thoughts.

"Thank you." Mu Chen said and made his way towards the elevator. Once inside the empty elevator, he pressed the button for his destination floor and moved to the corner.

He fidgeted as if the movement would let the elevator move faster. He bounced on his toes as worst-case scenarios assaulted his brain. His anxiety was eating him up, and he felt his hands getting sweaty from all the nerves.

If only there was another person in the elevator to talk to him to calm down his nerves. He looked on the floor, closed his eyes, and took deep breaths to calm down.

The elevator stopped on the fifth floor, and someone entered; it seemed his wish was granted.

He opened his eyes, and his eyes swayed from the floor to a pair of legs standing a few inches away from him. His gaze moved up the slim figure clad in red suit pants and a crisp black top with her red jacket draped loosely on her shoulders.

He couldn't see her face, but her ash brown hair was falling on her shoulders in waves. Mu Chen gathered all the courage he had left and walked closer to the woman.

"H-hello. I'm Mu Chen." He introduced himself, but instead of replying, the woman just ignored him. Mu Chen thought maybe she was also nervous for the interview, so he spoke again.

"Are you here for the interview?" The woman ignored him again, not even sparing him a glance.

"Well, if you are, good luck. I know you must be scared and nervous since the CEO is hard to please, but let's try our best!"

"She is hard to please?" The woman finally turned around to glance at him, but she was wearing big black glasses that obscured her expressions.

"Yes. Everyone knows the CEO is a heartless, ruthless woman who enjoys torturing her workers."

"Hmm." She mumbled underneath her breath and turned her head to the front.

"What? You don't believe me? Everyone knows the infamous Ruthless Queen of this company. I get goosebumps just thinking about her."

"Ruthless Queen? Is that what everybody calls her?" She questioned, curiosity laced in her voice.

"Well, that's one of her names. Devil, Mean Queen, She-Devil, Ruthless Queen, Demoness, Witch. These are some of the names I dug up on the internet."

The woman just nodded in return, and left the elevator when it stopped on the eleventh floor. Okay, that was weird. Mu Chen thought as he stared at the closed elevator door. He was curious about the woman. Hopefully, they will meet again.

When he reached the fifteenth floor, a man approached him and asked if he was one of the interviewees and then led him to the waiting area. He scanned to see if he would see the woman he had met earlier, but she was nowhere to be seen.

Sitting beside an older guy, Mu Chen tapped his feet on the mantled floor. Twenty minutes later, he was a mess. Unfortunately, he was the last person in the queue, so he had to see everyone leave before him. He felt too anxious to breathe, and his heart was galloping in his chest. An hour later, his name was called for the interview, and his heart hammered in his chest.

Taking a deep breath, Mu Chen straightened his tie and exhaled deeply. He entered through the glass door, and that's when his gaze met the familiar ash blonde woman he had met earlier with the nameplate Bai Lu, CEO of Baihui Coperation in front of her; he felt like dying on the spot.

"Holy Shit," the words left his mouth before he could control it. For someone who rarely cussed, this showed how messed up he was at the moment. The two men in the room looked up from their folders to stare at him, but he didn't care. His brain was whirring about what to do.

The woman leaned in her chair with a deadly smirk on her lips.

"Language, Mr. Mu. We don't want to anger the ruthless Queen, do we?" Her cold, distant voice echoed in the room.
