"You say… spirit?"
"... Unknown how…"
"How will… survive?"
"..."
These voices disturb my much needed sleep. I want to rest, it's not everyday that you're nearly killed. Yet these voices want to make the healing process take longer, that upsets me greatly.
But I'm too tired to do anything about it. My muscles are too sore and bones too brittle to dare start moving. So here I shall lay upon my wooden slab. A mattress would be nice about now, and modern medical aid. That'd be nice.
*
I awake to the poking and prodding of my abdomen. It's a mixture of fingers and tools, some dull and smooth, others sharp and hard. I slowly open my eyes to see who's messing with me right now.
To no one's surprise except maybe the dull, it's the boy and an older man in green robes. The older man has a white beard that goes down to his collarbone and radiant green eyes. He's likely the Mr. Barrenk that kid was talking about.
Mr. Barrenk is currently leaning on a staff he holds. The staff is intricately carved with hundreds of figures from the bottom to the top. It's while looking at the stuff that they realize I'm awake. Mr. Barrenk stops his fiddling and turns his gaze to me.
"Good morning to you. Would you mind this old man asking you some questions?"
Eh, talking first thing in the morning. I swallow throat gunk then cough off to the side before answering him. "I'd be alright with that, only if you answer some of mine."
Mr. Barrenk smiles at that before asking his questions. "Where are you from? I know young Gailen asked you this but I'd like to hear for myself."
"Well, you probably I'm not from… what was it? Saxon, Angle?"
He chuckles a little. "Those are not kingdoms. You're not from these lands which begs of how you got here. Unfathomable Deep would not let any ship venture here without dragging it down. The sky? No, not that way either… You're no changeling either."
Barrenk stops speaking and looks up with a contemplative face. After many seconds of silence he returns from whatever he was thinking. "I know not of any way which you could come here aside from Fey magics. You're not Fey are you?"
"Uh… No?"
"Hmm. Why were you in the Black Forest?"
Black Forest, first time hearing about that. "The Black Forest? Was that where I was found? Eh, before answering that, could you please tell me who saved me?"
He gives me a prideful smile, "You were saved by Rebecca Ní'Gael, Great Archer of Lindes. You should be thankful that she was feeling adventurous that day. If not, well, we would not be having this conversation."
"Oh."
With that, the conversation went into lull which got worse as I got more tired. By the end of it, I could barely hear them.
Both Barrenk and Gailen left with some goodbyes upon seeing how exhausted I was. I fell asleep soon after they left.
