When Bryan returned, he was met with Alexia's piercing gaze in their bedroom, her eyes wide with a mix of anger and hurt. "Where have you been?" she asked, her voice firm but trembling.
Bryan's heart raced as he fabricated a lie. "I had to take care of some things at a friend's company, but we got stuck in the elevator," he said, hoping Alexia would believe him.
Alexia's expression remained skeptical. "Hmm, is that so? Well, my main problem is that you and your dad betrayed us. Your dad, I expected it from him, but you, Bryan, my husband... how could you?"
Bryan knew he had to think fast to deflect her suspicions. "Alexia, I swear, I had nothing to do with it. I was just as shocked as you were when I found out about my dad's involvement. I didn't know how to tell you; I was afraid of losing you."
Alexia's eyes narrowed, searching for any sign of deception. "You expect me to believe that? You, who have been lying to me all along?"
