Chapter 32 - 32 Dark Magic

An hour has past and Loxley is still reading the book, meanwhile I am bored just sitting on the chair.

"Can I ask you something?"

I broke the silence and asked her something that I am curious about. She raised up her head to look at me...

"Yeah?"

"About that sword.....do you know what a Hilelit is?"

Her eyes widened and was surprised, I guess she did not expect me to asked her that...

"Did you hear that from father?"

I nodded. She stared me directly at my eyes, it looks like she is judging me with how she looks at me. She sighed and turned around to look at the sword.....

"You have probably heard my father explained that Hilelit is a mythical creature that appears once in a hundred years, am I right?"

"Yeah? What about it?"

"It is completely false"

I was confused, as to what she said....

"What?"

"Yeah, the Hilelit is not a creature that appears once in a hundred years"

I could not read if she was lying or not, since she had her back turned away from me....

"Since father had shared to you what the Hilelit is, then I guess it can't hurt if I further explain it to you the origin of it"

She stood up and grabbed the sword that was forged with the scale of the Hilelit, she then placed it on the counter to her book.

"Watch closely, because I will only show you the origin once"

She then opened up both of her hands, while talking in a language that I do not understand. The book that she was reading started to open up, the pages flipped from page to another page. Until it had landed on a page that had no text, nor pictures written. It was a blank page, and it started to glow, it suddenly displayed a holographic image.

"You see, the Hilelit does not really have a physical form. The scales that my father got from that creature, was the Hilelit's mana that had taken its shape as a scale"

It was confusing the way she described it, I kept listening as she further explained what the Hilelit....

"As my father described what the Hilelit is, it is partially true but not its true form. Do you have something that you fear?"

She looked at me, asking that question towards me. I looked at the holographic image that was displayed on the book, I was thinking of an answer to her question....

"I guess...losing a family member, why?"

She flipped a page on her book and an black and foggy image, was being displayed on the book.

"The Hilelit takes a form of something that you fear, as for you its losing a family member. It will take a form of just that, it will put you on a place where it will show you a torturous death of your family member"

Thats kinda scary if you think about it, so by that. Does Everards fear.....a dragon? I asked Loxley that question, and she nodded. She then explained after...

"I do not exactly know what started my father's fear of dragon's, but he always despised on the sight of anything dragon related"

Oh, so that explains why he has that magic stone that contain's a fire dragon's heart.....

"Anyway, that is all that I can give you. Anything other than that, my father will show up and tear off my book"

"Is it that confidential?"

She nodded at my question....

"Then why did he tell me what a Hilelit is when we first met?"

"Because what he shared to you was only surface level, and does not contain confidential knowledge. And also, you can read about the Hilelit on a book about mythical creatures, but only to a certain level"

"Oh, is that so?"

After she explained, the holographic image that was shown on the book slowly disappeared. The blank page slowly turned into a normal page, with letters and images being shown.

'Book binder, huh?'

Her magic is unique and has a complex idea, she must have earned that just like Everard earned his magic.

"Is there anything else?"

She asked. Maybe she is asking, so she wont be disturbed again...

"Yeah, i have"

"What is it?"

I pointed at her book, and curiously asked.....

"Is your magic connected to that book?"

She looked and showed a small grin on her lips.

"Not really, its just an artifact that I use so I can use my magic"

"So without it, you can't use your magic?"

"More or less, its not that I can't use my magic. It only helps me manipulate my magic more precisely, and freely"

"Oh, so a tool?"

"Yes, why are you asking?"

"You know Citra, right? Your fathers friend"

She nodded and replied with.....

"Yeah, what about her?"

I placed my hand on the sword, precisely on the middle part of the sword...

"She said that I have a talent and affinity on dark magic"

I looked at her and her jaw dropped, as if she was surprised and did not expect me to say that. But, she quickly composed herself.

"Are you implying that you have the ability to use dark magic?"

I nodded at her question. She later asked on what kind of dark magic I can use, I had no clue on what she meant. I shrugged both of my shoulders and said...

"I am not quite sure myself, I am still trying to figure it out"

She sighed and stood up, she walked to the front door of the shop and locked it, flipping the "open" sign to a "close" sign. Walking back to the counter, she sat back down and tied up her hair into a ponytail.

She then began to flip the pages of the book, looking for a specific page. When she found the right page, she began to talk in a language that I do not understand. The book displayed a holographic image that showed ancient sriptures.

It was the first time that I had seen these scriptures, it began to move in a circular motion, forming a circle with one symbol being inside the circle.

"These scriptures are the foundation of dark magic, it is a vital requirement in learning how to use dark magic. However, people that do not have any affinity and talent on dark magic, won't be able to use dark magic, even if they dedicated their on learning dark magic"

She explained. But, won't that contradict what Everard said about magic? He explained that, magic is either earned or gifted to you. If you had dedicated your life on learning dark magic, won't you be able to use dark magic eventually?

"Your father had told me, that magic is either earned or gifted. If you had dedicated your life on learning dark magic, won't you be able to use it eventually?"

"Well, there are some truths in that. But, dark magic is not something that is earned, it is something that has been given to you. People like Citra and other dark magicians, did not earn their magic, but were simply given to them"

So that is why Citra is the only that can use dark magic in her family.....also, now that I think about it. It is the same to me as well, if what Citra said was true, and I have the affinity and talent on using dark magic.

Then it was given to me...I cannot recall something that I did that might caused me to earn, the affinity and talent to use dark magic, even if I do not even know if I can use it myself.

"Since Citra was the one who told you that you have the affinity and talent to use dark magic, then she maybe is telling the truth"

"If that is true, then can you teach me how to use my own magic?"

She shook her head. She placed down her left hanf on the counter top, while the ancient scriptures were still forming a circle....

"Each person has a unique ability that only they can use, although some people have the same ability, like the four elements. But, dark magic is not something that is being used by normal people. Even royal bloods cannot use them, it is a completely different type of magic in its own"

"So, you are saying that you cannot teach me how to use my own magic? Even the basic steps?"

She nodded, answering my question....

"As you can see, my father and I have earned our magic. We have honed our magic, by doing something repeatedly. Magic is a complex thing to fully understand, although that there are numerous books that explore the world of magic. Humanity is still yet to find the reason why we can use magic"

She stopped and looked at the book, she hovered her hand on the holographic image. It crumbled everytime she passed her hand through the holographic image, and returned to its original form as she placed her hand back on the counter top.
