Two days had passed since the harrowing incident at the funeral home, yet my nerves remained frayed, and I was still jumpy at the slightest sound. Keegan had not returned to work, and the policemen I had called had failed to track him down. This uncertainty gnawed at me, making it hard to concentrate on anything but my own safety.

In response to the growing sense of dread, I had developed a new routine to ensure I was protected. I arrived at the funeral home after Darcy and the Director had already settled in, and I parked in the front lot instead of the more secluded back. This provided a sense of security, knowing that I was closer to the entrance and the bustling streets beyond.
