It was the evening of the third day when she had to go back to the Walter's mansion.
Romeo pulled up to Aunt Clare's cozy little house, feeling a sense of relief wash over him.
He had been dreading the idea of spending more time with Trina, but at least here, surrounded by Aunt Clare's warm and welcoming presence, he might be able to tolerate her company.
He got out of the car and walked up to the front door, which was answered by Aunt Clare herself. " You must Romeo, Come on in. Trina's been waiting for you."
Romeo forced a smile onto his face as he followed Aunt Clare into the house.
Trina was sitting on the couch, looking pale and unhappy. Romeo's gut twisted with guilt, but he quickly pushed the feeling aside.
He didn't want to feel anything for Trina.
"Ready to go?" he asked gruffly, not even bothering to sit down.
Trina nodded, standing up and smoothing out her dress. "Yes, I'm ready."
Aunt Clare smiled and hugged Trina. "Take care of yourself, dear. And Romeo, be nice to her."
Romeo nodded, feeling a twinge of annoyance. Why did everyone keep telling him to be nice to Trina? Didn't they understand that he didn't want to be married to her?
The drive to the Walter's mansion was a silent one, the only sound being the hum of the engine and the occasional rustle of leaves as they drove past trees.
Romeo's eyes were fixed on the road ahead, his jaw clenched in tension.
Trina sat beside him, her eyes fixed on her lap. She didn't dare look at Romeo, didn't dare try to break the silence. She knew he didn't want to be around her, didn't want to be married to her.
As they pulled up to the mansion, they were welcomed by a number of guards and maids.
" Welcome back Mr and Mrs Walter.." They all said in chorus making away for the couple.
Romeo's mother, Ryan Walter, was waiting for them on the steps. She smiled warmly at Trina, but her eyes were cold and calculating when she looked at Romeo.
"Welcome back, darling," she said, kissing Trina's cheek. "I trust you had a lovely honeymoon?"
Trina nodded, forcing a smile onto her face. "Yes, it was lovely. Thank you."
Romeo just grunted, not even bothering to pretend to be polite.
Ryan's eyes flicked to Romeo, a warm smile spreading across her face.
"And welcome back, Romeo, darling. I trust you're taking good care of your new wife?"
Romeo's expression remained neutral, but his eyes flashed with resentment.
He hated the way his mother was always trying to manipulate him, always trying to get him to do what she wanted.
"Yes, Mother," he said curtly, his voice devoid of emotion. "I'm taking care of her."
Ryan's smile never wavered, but her eyes narrowed slightly. She knew Romeo was still resentful about the marriage, but she was determined to make it work.
She would do whatever it took to ensure that Romeo and Trina stayed together.
" Alright, Your dinner is already. Everyone is waiting for you." She invited them.
The dinner table was set with fine china and crystal glasses, the soft glow of candles casting a warm ambiance over the room.
Ryan, resplendent in a designer gown, smiled warmly as Romeo and Trina took their seats.
Candy welcomed them with a warm smile but inside she wanted to cry.
As the first course was served, Ryan turned to Trina with a smile. "So, dear, how was your honeymoon? I hope Romeo was... attentive."
Trina's eyes flicked to Romeo, who was staring stonily at his plate. "It was... fine," Trina said, her voice neautral.
Ryan's smile broadened as she reached out to pat Trina's hand.
"Now that you're a part of the family, dear, I think it's time you started calling me Mother. Don't you agree, Romeo?"
Romeo's eyes flicked to Trina, his expression unreadable. " That's your choice ," he said, his voice flat.
Trina's eyes narrowed slightly, feeling a twinge of resentment at Ryan's demand.
But she knew better than to cross Ryan, at least not yet. "Yes, Mother," she repeated, her voice stiff.
Ryan beamed with pleasure, her eyes sparkling with satisfaction. "Excellent, dear. I'm so glad we understand each other. Now, let's enjoy our dinner, shall we?"
They all enjoyed dinner and after Ryan said.
" Trina, Tomorrow we are all going to visit your mother." She declared.
" Really , I miss her." Trina was happy to hear that,
" Don't worry, We shall go and you show her your husband." Ryan said.
Trina didn't have a way to refuse so she agreed.
" You two must tired from the long honeymoon. Please go to rest.." Ryan smiled at Trina and then went to her room together.
When Ryan had disappeared Romeo walked away amgrily to his room leaving Trina to just follow.
Trina's eyes widened as she took in the opulent decor of their bedroom.
The room was a masterpiece of elegance, with plush carpets, intricate furnishings, and a stunning chandelier hanging from the ceiling.
But as she turned to Romeo, expecting him to share in her excitement, she was met with a cold, distant gaze. "I'll be sleeping on the couch," he said, his voice flat and unyielding.
Trina's face fell, feeling a sting of rejection. "What? Why?" she asked, trying to keep her tone neutral.
Romeo's expression didn't change. "I made it clear from the start that I didn't want to be married to you. Sleeping in the same bed would be... hypocritical."
Trina felt a surge of anger and hurt, but she bit back her retort. She knew that arguing with Romeo would only lead to more tension and conflict.
"You know what? I think I'll take the couch instead. This is your room, after all. I don't want to intrude."
Romeo's expression didn't change, but Trina detected a flicker of surprise in his eyes.
He hadn't expected her to give in so easily.
" Are you sure about this ?" He asked.
" Mmm" Trina resorted walking to the coach;
"Fine," he said, his voice a little softer than before. "The couch is yours."
Trina nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She didn't want to fight with Romeo, not tonight. She just wanted to sleep and forget about the tension between them.
As she settled onto the couch, Romeo turned to leave, but not before casting a glance in her direction.
Trina felt a shiver run down her spine as their eyes met, but she quickly looked away, not wanting to encourage any more tension between them.
She entered the coach covering herself with a blanket first and slept out.
Romeo switched off the lights and also entered the bed.
