Chapter 28 - Twenty Eight

My hands are shaking nervously as I dress for dinner. I choose a simple, elegant dress, from my wardrobe, something that screams "respectable daughter" rather than the "rebel" my family has labeled me as. The mint green dress clings to every curve on my body.

I stand by the full-length mirror, checking out my reflection, and wishing that it is rather an enjoyable dinner I am going for. A romantic dinner date with Jameson would have been exciting. A smile curls up on my lips as I imagine myself and Jameson sitting across from each other in a restaurant.

But I steel my thoughts away from my vivid imagination, knowing that the reality waiting for me is a difficult evening. Facing my family is never easy, but tonight feels especially daunting.

When I arrive at my parents' house, I am greeted with the usual cold formality. Nobody is excited to see me, not even our helpers.
