Chereads / Who Will Fall First? / Chapter 26 - 26

Chapter 26 - 26

After we put everything up, we went our separate ways, and I ended up throwing on a black leather jacket over my black tank, paired with ripped black jeans, and black, ankle-high boots. I grabbed my key, slung my backpack over my shoulder, and went outside. Once I made it to my bike, I threw my helmet on, started the engine, and drove off. I needed to think for a little while.

I drove through the streets of the city, now lit up white and yellow and blue and green, getting myself out of my head. I lived for speed and danger. I lived to protect the citizens of this city. I didn't live for myself. I didn't live to enjoy the world. The world had come at me, and knocked me out hard, so why would I live to see the world? Everyone was either faking to be friendly and kind, or just straight up assholes. Don't get me wrong, there are actually good people, if you know where to look. I realized the car in front of me had stopped, and since I didn't have time to break, I swerved around the car, took a road no one else could, and then parked, leaning back on my bike. "I should count myself lucky, I suppose. I could've crashed." I whispered, looking up. I was sitting on a round dock, with a few blinking lights, that overlooked a river. But there was something weird about it. In the middle of the river, as wide as the Mississippi, was a building. A tall, pointed skyscraper, glowing a eery purple. I raised an eyebrow, and looked around, wondering if I was the only one here seeing this. "Hey, Shel, whats up?" I jumped off the bike, and turned, facing..."Connor?" I asked, a bit weary. Usually, I could sense people sneaking up on me, even if they were invisible, or too fast for the normal human. But this guy...he seemed to crawl past my defenses. And I didn't like that. "Nothing. I just needed some time alone to think." I answered, acting like I was relaxing. He seemed to belive I was. But, really, I was on high alert. If someone was able to bypass my defenses, if someone was able to sneak up on me, I didn't trust them. But the first time he had snuck up behind me, I'd been listening to my music on full-blast. So that hadn't counted. "Mm." He looked over at my ride. "Nice. I'm guessing you love the speed of that thing, huh?" I shrugged, watching him carefully. And, in a flash, he had my wrists trapped in his hand, looking down at me. "You know too much. But, on certain conditions, I'll let you off the hook. If you keep your pretty little mouth shut, I won't activate my plan. If you don't..." He smirked at me, and I could see his true intentions right then, what he really wanted to do. And it wasn't anything good.
