Chapter 42 - The Flash Missing In Crisis

### S.T.A.R. Labs - Time Vault

Inside the Time Vault, Iris stood transfixed by the headlines scrolling across the holographic display. She marveled at the magnitude of the events she was witnessing, her mind racing to comprehend the scope of the future she had unwittingly glimpsed.

The display showed headline after headline of monumental events, each more incredible than the last. She saw headlines about the Flash defeating formidable enemies, the Justice League forming alliances, and the world-changing events that were yet to unfold. Her heart swelled with pride and awe as she realized how pivotal Barry's role was in the fate of the world.

Many of the headlines bore her name, written by Iris West-Thawne, with a few collaborations with Lois Lane. It was a surreal experience, seeing the impact her words would have on shaping the narrative of these extraordinary events. She noted her involvement with admiration and disbelief, her journalistic instincts already piecing together the stories she would one day tell.

As she read through the headlines, a few minor events caught her attention:

- **"Central City Honors the Flash":** A future ceremony where the citizens of Central City would gather to express their gratitude to Barry for his unwavering dedication to their safety.

- **"Metropolis Unites for Rebuilding Efforts":** An inspiring collaboration between cities and heroes to restore areas devastated by battles against metahuman threats.

- **"Gorilla Grodd Detained Again":** A brief headline about the recurring capture and escape of the intelligent telepathic gorilla, showcasing the ongoing challenges Team Flash faced.

Iris's mind raced as she tried to grasp the implications of what she was seeing. The headlines painted a picture of a future filled with danger and triumph, of alliances forged and battles fought. But one headline, in particular, caught her eye, sending a chill down her spine.

**"The Flash Missing in Crisis."**

### Central City - Crime Scene

In the aftermath of a mysterious incident downtown, Barry Allen found himself crouched over a shattered glass window, examining the scene with a mixture of curiosity and concern. The glass had been blown outward, scattering across the pavement in a chaotic pattern that suggested an explosive force from within the building.

Barry donned a pair of gloves, carefully picking up a fragment of glass and examining it under the bright midday sun. He narrowed his eyes, searching for any clues that might explain the cause of the explosion. His mind worked quickly, analyzing the angles and trajectory, piecing together the sequence of events that had led to the destruction.

Nearby, Joe West and Eddie Thawne were methodically questioning witnesses, their voices calm but insistent as they sought to gather any information that might shed light on the mystery.

"Did you see anyone enter the building before the explosion?" Joe asked a bystander, his notebook in hand.

The bystander, a middle-aged man with a shocked expression, shook his head. "No, sir. I was just walking by when it happened. It was like a bomb went off, but there was no warning, no sound before it happened."

Eddie approached another witness, a young woman clutching her phone tightly. "Did you notice anything unusual? Any strange people or vehicles?"

The woman shook her head, eyes wide with fear. "No, it was just a normal day. One minute everything was fine, and the next, it was chaos."

Barry stood up, wiping his hands on a cloth as he approached Joe and Eddie. "The glass blew outward, which means the force came from inside the building. But there's no sign of any explosive residue," he reported, his mind still racing with possibilities.

Joe nodded, glancing at the building's entrance, which was now cordoned off by police tape. "Could it be a metahuman?" he asked, his voice low.

Barry considered the question, his thoughts drifting back to the headlines Iris had seen in the Time Vault. "It's possible," he replied. "There's no sign of traditional explosives, which means it could be a metahuman ability. We should check the meta database for anyone with powers that could cause something like this."

Eddie sighed, running a hand through his hair. "This city's getting crazier by the day," he muttered.

Barry offered a reassuring smile, his determination unshaken. "We'll figure it out, Eddie. We've faced worse before."

### S.T.A.R. Labs - Control Room

Barry returned to S.T.A.R. Labs, his mind still focused on the mysterious explosion downtown. He entered the control room to find a somber atmosphere enveloping the team. Caitlin Snow was staring at her computer screen, her usual smile replaced by a worried frown. Cisco Ramon was tinkering with some equipment, his movements more distracted and restless than usual. Iris stood nearby, her face reflecting a mix of concern and determination.

"Hey, everyone," Barry greeted, trying to inject some optimism into the room. "Any progress on the case?"

Cisco looked up, his expression uncharacteristically serious. "We need to show you something, Barry."

Barry's heart skipped a beat as he noticed the tension in the room. "What's going on?" he asked, glancing between his friends.

Iris exchanged a glance with Caitlin, then nodded to Cisco. "Gideon, bring up the headline from the Time Vault," Cisco instructed, his voice carrying a weight that made Barry's unease grow.

The holographic display lit up, revealing the headline that Iris had seen earlier: **"The Flash Missing in Crisis."** The words hung in the air like a dark omen.

Barry's eyes locked onto the headline, a sinking feeling settling in his gut. **"The Flash Missing in Crisis."** The words seemed to pulse with ominous significance, stirring a whirlwind of thoughts in his mind. He had grown stronger, faster, and more powerful than his counterpart from the series they often referred to. How could he, of all people, go missing during the crisis?

While others were thinking of ways to save Barry and how he could survive the crisis, Barry was thinking who was the enemy that is going to push him to that extent so as to make that sacrifice because he believes that by the time the crisis is going to come, he would be able to match the likes of the Monitor and the Anti-Monitor.
