Aurora.
For the second time since I came here, I had that dream again. The same man, warning me with so much urgency in his voice, I could feel it inside of me.
I shook my head as I stared at the ceiling, trying to make sense of it all. His words confused me much more than I already was. I was in a strange land, with strange people and at their mercy, so what could I do if someone here had ill intentions towards me and my people? Even when we were armed, we still weren't able to take them down, talk less of now we are powerless.
Even though I knew I could use the information to do nothing, it still didn't stop me from thinking about it a lot.
The sound of my door swinging open, jolted me out of my words of thoughts as my attention focused on the person walking into my room.
When she got to where I was, she gave a small bow and smiled at me.
"Good morning my lady, I hope you slept well." She said with a calm voice.
"Good morning Agatha, I did sleep well. What brings you here this morning?" I asked as I stared at her wearily. After Damien had sent her away about two days ago, I hadn't seen her since then. I still had little maids here and there taking care of all my needs, including food, so that could only mean that she only came when she had an assignment concerning me to carry out.
I didn't know how I felt about it in general, but today I couldn't deny the discomfort that curled at the end of my belly at such prospects. After the dream I had, I wanted to be left alone by these people, but still not let them suspect a thing in case it were true.
"I came to inform you of the activities you'll be carrying out today." She said with a knowing smile.
"Activities?" I asked in surprise, why the hell would I have activities when I wasn't even part of their kingdom? Who does such things?
"Yes princess, his majesty has ordered for you to carry them out. It's our tradition as the woman he is serious about and courting, you'll need to get more acquainted with the people, especially other massive influences in the palace. It's important for them to also approve of you before he can be sure." She explained, and I stared at her like she was saying bizarre things because, in reality, she was.
I had agreed to just courtship, and they were already treating it as if it were marriage. It was at the tip of my tongue to swear the whole thing off, but I chose better and nodded.
"Right, let's hear it then, shall we?" I said, and she nodded in agreement and began to read out the schedule that had been created for me.
I zoned out, my mind going back to the dream. It frustrated me how hung up I was on the dream, even though I couldn't make much sense of it. It was beyond irritating, but I still found myself going back to it and doing the same thing.
I wish I could forget it, I wish that person whoever it was would leave me alone. I wish I just had a normal life, not so many responsibilities and lives on my shoulders.
It was so much sometimes and then this dream I had more than twice in a role added to it all. The first time, I had managed to ignore it a little, but now it had happened twice it was clear it was a warning.
"Are you listening, my lady?" Agatha's voice sounded again in my ear, this time with a hint of impatience. I turned to her and smiled apologetically, even the maids here were capable of whatever.
"I'm sorry, I just zoned out a bit," I said with a sigh.
"It's alright, my lady, let's just start with getting you ready." She said and then made the gigantic signal for the maids to prepare the bath and the rest to prepare my outfits for the day.
"Where is Irene?" I finally asked I hadn't seen her all morning and if there was someone I could trust with this, it would be her.
"She is in her assigned chambers, my lady," Agatha responded as she continued to order the maids around. It seemed like whatever it was I was doing today was important, the tension alone in this room was so palatable I could taste it, and I was in the room with maids.
"I want you to send her to me," I said as I stared at her face, checking to see if she was even paying me any attention. If she had heard me, she certainly made no signs to show that she had.
"She will be sent to you at the end of the day, my lady. For now, I have to make sure you carry out all assigned tasks today." She said and then gestured for me to follow her to the showers that had been prepared for me, "Your bath is ready my lady, you can go ahead, I'll be waiting for you at breakfast."
"Alright," I said and followed the maids who were waiting for me at the entrance to the bathroom.
I couldn't stop my thoughts from trailing to the dream I had once more, only this time the events and all I had heard last night also came to mind at the same time.
Lucian. The maids had sounded so bitter when they spoke about him, it was clear he was admired by them and was someone important, they had even implied that Damien had stolen something from Lucian.
I had the urge to ask Damien about it, but I knew it wouldn't end well. Not only would it cause him to suspect me, but it would also get those maids into trouble and I couldn't risk such.
Something was happening here, and I needed to know.
