The screams of the fallen echoed in the lone Valley as the night was drowned in the artificial sun that came from the ground. The raging hell fire engulfed every living being in its way, burning more brilliantly under the watchful eyes of night seekers.
" Rush to the castle. We must protect the lord."
The guards didn't faze before the begging of the damned while kicking the sullen hands of them to the eternal grave. Their march spelled the end of their lives, sending to the embrace of their parents who left the earth. The cruel night was the end for both parties yet no one knew it like fools who were drowning in the mud water.
" Where do you think going?"
The 50 men stood before the 200 guards in the square while both sides looked at each other in silence. The breaths of the guard hastened under the fearsome gazes of the Vikings whose bodies were covered in armor and tattoos.
10 or so men stood before them with a calm expression while looking at them like they were their prey. Their weapons were tainted with blood while their smell had lingering death around them. No one would dare to approach them even if they were trained much less these guards who didn't have the slightest clue of the real wars.
" Go back to your home. You are no warriors and we don't want to kill you."
The guard captains gulped nervously under Magnus's words but none of them dared to retreat because if they did so, they would be beheaded in the end.
Their legs were frozen solid on this ground as they had no way. Both sides were filled with death but the question was which one was the best. Thus, the captains had to bet here and they decided on the wrong end.
" Men, march forward. Don't fear! They only have 50 or so men. We can win this."
Halfdan shook his head after hearing his command, knowing this would only end in a bloodbath and Vikings didn't mention mercy once they started fighting.
" I see. Kill them."
Magnus whispered as the Vikings ran toward the guards who were forming a loose formation. Their formation was shattered instantly under the pressure of the cooperation of the Vikings for none of them were trained properly.
" You should have heeded my words. All this blood would be on your hands."
The Vikings made a way for Magnus as he approached them with a menacing gaze. His hand firmly gripped his sword as he drew it from his waist. Then he put the cold steel right before the southern gate captain's throat while glancing to his eyes.
" Look at me. You don't want to do this. Just go home and live with your family. It isn't worth to lose your life over the lord who doesn't give a damn about you."
The captain almost fell to his knees but he didn't allow himself to do so in front of his people and other captains.
" How do I know whether you aren't lying or not?"
Magnus burst out with laughter when he heard his sword while pointing at the dead bodies, scattered on the ground to tell him that he would be one of them in no time.
" What are you doing, Edmond? Kill him."
The north gate captain slashed his sword toward Magnus but before he could reach him a sword came in front of his throat, detaching it from his body.
The bloody head rolled on the ground while Halfdan stood near to it without any expression. Before the south captain could register what was happening, Halfdan grabbed the spear and pierced the heart of the remaining captain.
" Monster!"
The west gate captain muttered with weakness, dying on the spot while the Vikings massacred the remaining guards like the wolves in the flock.
The screams of his men deafened his ears as the south captain, blocked his ears with pain but he didn't lose his mind.
" STOP! I understand. Please, stop this. I don't want any of them dying here on my watch."
Magnus nodded at his words, signaling his men to stop as they halted their moves. The remaining guards looked at them with fear in their eyes.
