The sound of hastened footsteps echoed in the castle hall, drowning in the scream of fire while heading toward the direction of the shadow. The etched shadows gently towered over the lifeless armors of the knights while hiding the owner from its noise.
" Lord, as long as we can reach the backdoor, we will escape the castle. Then we can officially send a letter to the crown and ask for troops because we are the first defense line."
The chamberlain of the castle pulled the lever to reveal a dark tunnel, stretching toward the end of the castle.
The dripping sound of water coupled with the stench of moss barely made this place an escape route but they had no luxury to complain for their hounds were after them.
" The kept pet would break the leash in the end. I should have beheaded that ungrateful son when I laid my eyes on him."
The lord complained while dragging his aged body through the tunnel to escape from this place. The stench deeply stimulated his nose, making him gag from time to time in this damned place.
The wrinkly old hands of his tumbled way to find a safe hold for his body, creating a squelching sound in the tunnel along with the chamberlain who stood next to him.
" Lord, we are near the exit. As long as we pass this wall, we should be able to blend among the pheasants."
The chamberlain spoke gleefully, thinking they had managed to escape from this pothole to only to fall into the real trap.
A hunter must know about its prey and Uther was playing as a hunter this time. The cold sword tip gently touched the hard wall to create a hollow noise from it, knowing this was the escape route of the lord.
" Oh foolish father, you are too naive to believe your people would be loyal to you. The dog will bite its owner if it is threatened and you did that to your people."
The cracking sound of the stone reached his eyes as he stood there with his sword in front of his body. The gentle wind slowly blew his cape while his men silently stood next to him with a cold face.
The dying light of the torch illuminated their faces as the chamberlain immediately dropped it with fear etched on his face. His body trembled from the pressure of the knight while the lord almost shat his pants with fear.
His blue pupil trembled from the primordial emotion while he raised his finger to point at his face. However, how could a knight like Uther would allow that?
His rough hand reached for his father's face, gently touching with the last bit of his piety in his heart. Soon this filial heart disappeared along with an inch of his mind, officially ending the thought of his father in his mind for he was dead to him.
" Constantine Kent Grey, I hereby abduct you as a lord. You will be imprisoned in the dungeon until your execution and you will be executed in front of Kent's people."
Constantine fell to his knees while begging for his life. His hands tried to pull the cloth in the armor but before he could do that, the knights dragged him to the dungeon, leaving the chamberlain with Uther.
" I know you have records of my siblings and my father. If you give the record to me, I will pardon your life."
He extended his right arm to the chamberlain while the chamberlain kissed the gauntlet to show his sincerity. The survival instinct took over his mind, instantly wiping out his loyalty in front of the danger.
" I will give it to you, my lord. I thank you for your grace."
Uther's emotionless eyes fell on him with a hint of despise in it, feeling disgusted by this man but there was nothing he could do because to execute his father, this man was necessary.
" I hope you will make it quick. Bring me the record along with the stamp of the lord. Also, show me the ledger of the territory."
The chamberlain nodded like an obedient puppy, disappearing into the shadow while Uther silently stood there. His eyes were filled with various emotions, knowing this was the end.
