" Hold the gate! Don't let them pass! You get out from there. Useless bunches!"
The castle guard captain pulled the new soldier to the side while holding the line with a grim face. Despite having a fat body, he was a great fighter and tactician who wasn't suited to be confined in this well, yet his loyalty dragged him back to the mud while preventing him from seeing the world.
" Captain, the enemy cavalry is pushing the front lines. At this rate, we will lose the entire gate."
The soldier who was painted in blood, said with a pale face while shivering in the cold. The silent night was colder than any night that he witnessed in his feeble life.
" Shit! Abandon the gate then. Barricade the halls and don't let them enter the halls. Otherwise, we will all die here in the worst way."
He commanded his men coldly, thinking a way to block them but it was too late in his mind. He knew the fall of the gate meant the end for them and no one would save them there even the lord was a high-ranking noble because he was too shrewd.
His old and crude mind blocked all sources of the relationship from outside as he enjoyed the basking of his temporal wealth. He slept with many women and had many children while lavishly spending his live. Truly he was the most useless lord on this planet and his young image was nowhere to be found.
" They entered the hall. Guard the entry. Don't let them go through."
Uther looked at the captain with pity in his eyes because he believed this man was a truly invaluable asset. Sadly he was loyal to his foolish father and he was bound to die here for his loyalty.
" Lord Uther, I assume you are rebelling against the lord in the end. Why did you wait for this long?"
The captain raised his head to match his eyes while Uther remained motionless before the guards with his men. He gently took off his helmet while sheathing his sword.
" My siblings and my father are the cause of suffering in our territory. My will is only pure and noble as a knight.
Do you remember, Sir Wilt? I have told my father and my siblings that I will come back eventually. They never heeded my words and they will pay for that."
Wilt closed his eyes with pain while biting his lips with confusion. His oath was on the side of the lord but he was also a knight of his people. For many years he closed his eyes for them and can he do it again?
" I don't know, Master Uther. I hope you will take care of my people in the future. I am a sinner and I don't have any words to cuss out."
Wilt saw the terrified faces of his men and blood on the ground but one thing was sure neither side wanted this.
" Boys, get out of my way! This is the last fight of this old fool."
He took off his helmet while pushing them to the side even though they tried to protect him because he was a father figure like them. He laughed with them and cursed them during their careers and nobody was willing to let him go like that.
" Men, take your weapons. We will honor our captain and lord. Lord Uther, I am sorry but we will accompany our leader."
They raised their spears toward the cavalry even though they knew they would die but nobody dared to surrender.
" I see. Charge!"
The simple word started the last struggle between them as the cavalry pushed the guards back to the hall because they were clad in armor. The poorly maintained spears couldn't match the well-crafted armor of the northern blacksmiths.
Soon the entire hall was dyed in the crimson of the dying light, drowning in the blood of fallen men. They gasped their last breath in this room before the dust of iron hooves. Their broken spears symbolized their valiant hearts and, saddening hearts of the warriors in the room. Yet, no one dared to say something because they earned it.
