" Watch your back, Halfdan."
Halfdan heard his mother's voice amidst the crowd while fighting against the enemies. He slightly nodded with a calm face while crunching his expression toward the guards. Even with his great physique, there was no way that he would win against them in the battle because swinging a weapon wasn't an easy task for extended periods against multiple enemies.
Sooner or later he would be bound to succumb to his fatigue, so the most reliable thing was to conserve his energy and wait for the reinforcement. However, the guards weren't fools either despite their lack of training.
" Look at him. He is tired and now is our chance."
They swarmed toward Halfdan with their numbers, trying to push him toward the edge, yet Halfdan held his ground bravely. The cold ruthless sword was swung and forth, slashing them one by one. But the chips on the sword were testimony of its failure since the sword could hold only for that long in the end.
Even great swords would need breathing much less huge pressure like this, hence it was being broken.
" Kuagh!"
Halfdan pulled one of them toward himself while defecting the spear tip with his gauntlet. Then he pushed the soldier's body toward the spear tips, making it immovable for a moment.
" What the hell?!"
The guards couldn't push their spears toward, losing the lethality of their weapons and that was the goal of Halfdan. He rotated his body along with the body of the dead soldier while grabbing the shafts of spears with his armpit.
" Break for me!"
He then slashed his sword down against it, breaking them in the end while the guards lost their balance from the sudden weight shift.
" Alley Oop!"
The big arms of Halfdan threw them off one by one while the guards tried to regain their balance but it was too late.
The two giants came from the stairs while sandwiching them between themselves. Three Vikings were more than enough to deal with them. Especially since they were the most powerful warriors in their tribes.
" Uncles, you came."
Tove and Bo stood before the guards who were shivering at their sizes. The Adam apples in their throats went up and down because they never saw tall and fit men like them since they were like man bears. Not only their height was terrifying, but their bodies were clad in armor and they held weapons as tall as their shortest member.
" We are doomed."
One of the guards let out a dry laugh, imagining his miserable death in the end. He couldn't blame anyone for his mistake and this was death worse than a dog's.
" Death is only a blessing for you. You may rest in peace before the blade of our hearts. May your fire burn stronger in the sense of our presence for we will witness your last ember."
Halfdan recalled the old poem of Vikings who never feared death. Maybe they would fight until their death or otherwise but in the end, their end was inevitable for the greater good of his people.
" Agh!"
The guards didn't hesitate to attack them without formation like a herd which was running toward the pack of wolves. The teeth of wolves would always tear them apart like now.
The blood gushed in front of their eyes as the massacre began. Their ears buzzed from the noise and their eyes were red due to the fight.
" Rest now."
Halfdan murmured under his breath while beheading the young guard who was in the back. His sword came back and forth, reaping lives from the guards as they fell one by one while Tove and Bo crushed them with their sheer strength.
The wall was tainted with the blood of the men who were laughing an hour ago as their redness dripped from the edge of it. It was just the beginning of their performance.
Meanwhile in the lord's castle.
Crash*
The old lord threw his prized gold cup to the ground while rubbing his forehead with stress. His old face was wrinkled due to the stress of the night and his anger was enough to devour the men inside this chamber.
" You fools! How could you let them enter the castle? What were you doing except eating and sleeping? Bunch of wenches without gratitude."
His spit was sprayed in their faces while the guards hung their heads low.
