Chereads / The ghost leads me to a killer / Chapter 17 - Vengeance

Chapter 17 - Vengeance

Lucy closed the bakery curtains, wiped the table and washed the dirty basin that had been used for making bread. She sighed, looking cynically at Aleyah who came down the stairs with wet hair. "You won't help me?" she asked sarcastically.

Aleyah raised an eyebrow, "Sorry, my sweet sister. I have a lot on my mind lately." she said as she approached Lucy.

Lucy looked at the person who was taller than her, nobody knows how many staring contests they have had, what is clear is that Lucy is not comfortable looking at Aleyah's brown eyes which are now slightly reddish. Can't stand being stared at by her sister for long, Lucy put down the rag and approached Mr. Kane. She whispered to her cat, "Aleyah has been strange lately. She smiles a lot and often compliments me, it's super scary."

Lucy watched Aleyah muttering alone in front of the shop door. Aleyah was wearing her father's shirt and pants that were too big on her body. The water on her hair wet the floor and it almost made Lucy slip some time ago.

"Aleyah sit here." called Lucy after managing to balance her body. Aleyah turned and approached the girl as she asked. She was told to sit on a chair and she did as Lucy told her to without any problems.

Lucy rubbed the towel over Aleyah's head. "You seem to be a good little sister," said Aleyah then she smiled, "Thank you." Lucy could feel the goosebumps on her neck. She and her sister had never praised each other this much. She got another goosebumps when Aleyah stroked the top of her hair.

"What the hell! Don't get too close," shooed Lucy and then handed the towel into Aleyah's hands. She hugged Mr. Kane again and whispered to the cat to talk about her sister's strangeness.

Aleyah put a towel around her neck. She grabbed the white cell phone on the table, "Is this my cell phone?" she asked hesitantly. Lucy looked at her suspiciously again and again, "You forgot?" Lucy asked back.

Aleyah sat in a chair and stroked her short hair again. "I'm just kidding, of course it's my cell phone." she said, trying to lie and her efforts were successful. Lucy didn't look at her suspiciously anymore. She was busy again with that white and black cat.

Aleyah stared at her wrinkled fingertips. She soaked in water too long. Aleyah wasn't lying about having a lot on her mind. Now that she knows the man's name, job and the environment where he lives. She had spent three days confirming her memory and now she just needed a detailed plan. What should she do with this information?

"Lucy? Someone called me," Aleyah reported while showing her cell phone screen.

"You can just pick it up. You had a fight with Jeremy?"

Aleyah looked up, the ghost inside her was asking to his friends who were always floating around the ceiling of the bakery. He didn't know and had never heard of Jeremy before. His ghost friends also shook their heads.

"Jeez, just pick up, you'll be handcuffed if you don't answer the phone." Lucy said mischievously while peeking at the cell phone screen. Jeremy had called ten times but her sister hadn't answered any of them.

Aleyah gasped, "What do you mean by handcuffs? I didn't do anything wrong. What I am doing now is upholding justice."

Lucy rolled her eyes upwards, "I'm just kidding, your friend is a police officer so I joked by saying that you would be handcuffed by him if you kept selling high prices and didn't respond to his calls."

"Gosh, I never thought I would explain a joke to you. There must be something wrong with your brain." Lucy complained to no end.

Aleyah suddenly smiled meaningfully as she nodded while looking at the ceiling. Lucy also stared at what the woman was staring at, "You're just getting weirder. So are you taking a photo shoot today?" she asked.

Aleyah completely ignored the question. The woman was busy muttering something to something invisible on the ceiling. Lucy started to be more afraid of the strange things Aleyah was doing, she shook Aleyah's body, "Don't ignore me... I'm scared." she said worriedly. Lucy's reply was a cynical look, not a warm embrace and hug like Aleyah used to give when she whimpered in fear.

"What!" Aleyah snapped irritably.

Lucy's breath hitched, "Y-you're acting strange." she muttered, "Aleyah never raised her voice in front of me," she continued. If ever, she had never been afraid like this. Aleyah pushed Lucy's hand away, "You are so annoying. I'm busy and it has nothing to do with you, understand?!" she snapped louder.

Lucy curled her lips then ran up the stairs and slammed the door to her room. "You meanie! I hate you!" she shouted from inside the room.

Aleyah rolled her eyes upwards. She didn't have time to play the good older sister role in this family. She went up the stairs, not to persuade Lucy but to get Smith's jacket. The male ghost doesn't like wearing Aleyah's women's clothes. Short clothes are not suitable for exploring at night.

Smith's black leather jacket was her main choice. The jacket had just been washed, then she immediately put it on and went to grab the motorbike keys. She should get done what she needs to get done while Smith isn't home.

She opened the door of the house and held on to the threshold. Suddenly her body went limp and almost collapsed. "What's this? Is this called dizziness?" she asked herself in surprise. Aleyah shook her head repeatedly while blinking her eyes repeatedly so that her vision returned to normal.

Aleyah adjusted her glasses then continued walking after making sure her vision was clear again. She left the house without her father's permission and she didn't give a single damn care. She pushed Smith's big motorbike with engine capacities above 250 cc, secretly out of the yard. She guided the motorbike far from her house so that it wouldn't make a sound when starting the engine.

Lucy peeked out of the corner of the bedroom window. "Where is she going at nights like this," she muttered worriedly with puffy eyes. Not long after, Aleyah disappeared from Lucy's range of vision.

Aleyah rode the big motorbike skillfully without missing the opportunity to think. What should they do to catch this cold-blooded criminal?

"I have a brilliant idea. We can catch that bastard with the help of this lady cop friend." said Aleyah confidently.

"The police will not believe this woman." said one of the black shadows who was following Aleyah.

They had wanted to hand over the men's personal information and their testimony to Jeremy, but would the police believe them? What should she say to Jeremy to make the police believe their testimony? There's honestly nothing they can do to prove they were killed unjustly. Their deaths or the crimes that man committed against them have passed many years ago. They realized that they couldn't tell the police that Aleyah saw the murder that the man had committed against them. It's just pure stupidity.

"You've been following that man, right?" asked the male ghost in Aleyah's body to one of her friends who was floating along at the speed of her motorbike.

"Yes, he's been the perpetrator of recent murders." reported his friend.

Aleyah smiled again meaningfully, she stopped when the red light came on and raised her visor. "Listen, to convince Jeremy, we need proof. We are the only ones who know the evil and rotten nature of that bastard. We've been watching that man for a long time and with this woman, we can gather evidence of the cruel killer's crimes."

Aleyah looked at her bright red ring. "We have to move quickly, this opportunity will not come twice." she said then started her motorbike again.

After riding her motorbike for a long time, she stopped in front of a bank. They were at the man's workplace and this building was quiet and dark. Then she heard her friend whisper that there was movement from the corner of this building. Sure enough, from inside this building appeared a car driven by a man.

"That's our target," she muttered to her friends. "Keep an eye on him, let's find out if he's going to kill anyone tonight." the male ghost ordered. His ghost friends simultaneously followed what he just said.

Aleyah wore a black mask and lowered her visor. It's time for action, she speeds on the highway and drives Smith's big motorbike skillfully. She followed the car from a distance of two cars to avoid suspicion. The man was very sensitive and meticulous in his work so even the slightest suspicion could bring them disaster.

She was approached by the black shadows. "What exactly are you going to do? What evidence do you mean?" asked one of them.

"If he sharpens his knife tonight, I will record the action and then hand the phone to Jeremy. Great idea, right?"

"Do it right, our fate is all in your hands."

"Don't worry, I've prepared a lot for this moment."

Aleyah stopped in front of a skyscraper. She looked up to see someone who was standing there. "What do you think he's doing up there?" she asked a friend who was next to her shoulder.

The black shadow that she had previously ordered to follow the man approached her. "He was watching and just sitting there. It seemed like he was waiting for someone. I think there will be blood spilled tonight."

Aleyah stretched her stiff neck, "You're dead now, I will put you under bars." she said vengefully.
