It was around 6pm when Monah was finishing to cover her textbooks. Her hair was a mess, so was her bed. She was alarmed by a sudden knock. The young lady stood from her bed, curious as to who was disturbing her. She quickly opened the door. And was shocked to see that it was the residence manager and Michelle standing on the doorway.
"What a surprise." Monah exclaimed, folding her arms.
"Indeed it is, can we.."
Before Lily could even finish her sentence, Michelle pushed her way into the room dragging her luggage along with her.
"Please don't let it be." Monah begged within her heart.
"Michelle meet Monah, Monah meet Michelle, your roommate." Said Lily.
"We already met, haven't we sweetheart?" Michelle stated. With a snobbish arrogant look.
Monah shut the door angrily. The residence manager looked around the room.
"I'm sure the two of you will get along perfectly." She said.
Michelle rolled her eyes then began to unpack her bags.
The residence manager opened the door and left, leaving the two ladies to get along.
Monah did not have a clue on what she could say to Michelle since she and Ted were now dating. She chose to keep silent and continue in her work.
Waking up at the student residence wasn't that hard for Monah because she usually didn't sleep that long. As it felt nothing like home.. She took a quick shower and paid her friend a visit.
"You're joking right?" Tamara shouted in shock.
"I'm telling you. Michelle moved in last night.. she didn't even say anything or apologize for her rude behaviour the previous day." Monah complained.
Tamara began to laugh.
"You should've told the residence manager to move you to a new room." She suggested.
Monah sighed.
"She wasn't that keen to help me, beside I can't risk losing that place since it's the only room my scholarship could cover." She said.
Tamara stood up from her couch then began to prepare coffee for them both.
Monah took a few sips before she could continue in the conversation.
"I wonder what Ted ever saw in her. She's lazy and arrogant."
"My brother is not serious about her. He is only interested in one thing and you know what that is."
"As do all men."
The two ladies laughed.
"I wish he could've been patient with me." Monah added.
Tamara rolled her eyes.
"I know that Ted might be my twin, and the only brother I have for now but take it from me. He is not worth fighting for. He's arrogant and stupid for letting you go in the first place."
There was an awkward silence for a while.
"Let's forget about Ted. Are you enjoying your classes?" Tamara asked.
Monah laughed
"I am not yet sure because I've done nothing but embarrass myself since I first arrived here. I have gotten lost at the school twice now. So I always look at the class sections to get an idea of which class I'm supposed to be in."
Tamara blushed.
"You're not alone. But instead of looking at the class sections, I look at the hottest guys in my class and make conversations then walk with them to the class."
The too ladies laughed.
Monah had been looking forward to attending her classes again. Being a Monday meant she had a great week to look ahead of. She had attended other classes but it was the first time she was to attend the chemistry one. She looked around the class and was shocked to see Ted there as well. But she refused to allow his presence to affect her mood. Instead, the cinnamon eyed lady decided to keep her focus on the lecturer.
As the lessons began, a very handsome guy entered and immediately apologised for arriving late. Monah didn't give a care in the world until the young man took a seat beside her. Monah looked around and noticed many other chairs that were empty that the guy
could have chosen to take but instead he sat beside her.
"Hello, my name is Derrick." Said the young man offering his hand to the now uncomfortable cold statue Monah.
"I..am.."
"Miss Spencer and Mr Olson could you please keep this it quiet!"
The lecturer suddenly shouted.
The other classmates giggled.
The two students kept silent. However Monah couldn't stop smiling.. she tried to hide herself inside a book. But could feel that Derrick was looking at her from the corner of his eye. Monah tried to play it cool and not make eye contact, but she couldn't help sneaking a few glances his way.
Derrick was noting down important information on his book, he looked focused which made Monah even more attracted to him. Suddenly Monah received a note from Derrick.
"Hi, sorry to bother you but can I talk to you after this class." The note said.
The young lady was overwhelmed with feelings of joy as well as fear.
She teared out a piece of paper from her book then replied.
"Sure, why not?"
Derrick's face lit up as he saw the respond.
The lecturer began to write down an activity for the students to test their knowledge on. This gave Monah an opportunity to fully browse Derrick.
She began to look at his hands, they were large, clean, the nails were shiny and in healthy condition. She took a look at Derrick's face on the side, he had a strong jawline, perfectly trimmed moustache, no beard. His eyes were black and small, his outfit was neat.. a white shirt and a brown straight cut formal trouser. His hair shiny black and neat. You would think he worked for a certain company. He looked nothing like a student. He was too formal. Monah smiled to herself. As she raised her eyes, she noticed Derrick looking straight at her. Her heart stopped beating for a few seconds. She realized she was caught but the young man smiled instead of giving her an offended look. A tinge of embarrassment fell on Monah's face. She quickly dropped her head and focussed her eyes on her book and began to write down the class activity.
Suddenly, she saw Derrick's large hand slide a note on underneath her book.
She held back her smile and tried to maintain stern look. She began to read the note in a sneaky way.
"Thanks for being kind to me." The note said.
Monah was taken aback, how had she been kind? When all she had been doing all along was judging the man by his features. She felt a pang of guilt.
But forced a smile on her face to look innocent.
