Chereads / Its My Turn / Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

When the class had ended, the students placed their books in their bags and walked out of the classroom. Monah was relieved to finally have freedom to actually speak again.

Derrick laughed with her. However somebody was unhappy to see the two talking.

Ted watched from a distance. His face was filled with disgust. He decided to follow them. As he watched them, his jealousy grew. They looked free as if they'd known each other for many years. Ted remembered the last time he ever saw Monah that happy was when she and him were getting ice-cream. It was the day he confessed his feelings for her three years ago. Ted felt a surge of anger and hurt as he realized that Monah was attracted by Derrick. A student she had just met an hour ago. He couldn't believe she had already forgotten him that easily. But he had to be sure that she was truly moving on with someone else. Ted approached both Derrick and Monah, his heart pounding in his chest. "Hey, you two!" He said, trying to keep his voice steady. "Can I talk to you for a minute?"

Derrick looked at Monah, she had an annoyed expression on her face.

"Do you know this guy?" The young handsome man asked.

"He's my ex." Monah exhaled.

Ted fixed his posture. He took a deep breath to try to be calm.

"Baby girl, you look cute today." He said.

"What do you want?" Monah asked in annoyance.

"Is this guy your boyfriend?"

Derrick was taken aback by the question.

"Is that any of your business?" The young man asked feeling an urge to punch Ted on the face.

Ted stood in front of Derrick and looked up at him with angry eyes.

"What if it is. I've known this girl more than you three years while you've only met her for a few minutes."

Monah began to look around and noticed the other student staring at them.

"Ted please stop embarrassing yourself, the entire school is watching.." the young lady begged. But Ted would not budge.

"I don't care if anyone watches. I'm not going to allow a loser to walk with my woman!"

Monah folded her arms and watched in disbelief.

"I'm not your woman and you know that well."

Ted turned to look at Monah.

"But you know that you and I were lover's. We spent an entire three years together. Didn't it mean anything to you?"

Derrick was getting really annoyed at that point. He grabbed Monah by the hand.

"Take a hike dude. She's no longer yours." The young man said.

Monah smiled slightly.

Ted began to sweat all over his body.

"Don't tell me to take a hike, who do you think you are speaking to? I bet you're using a scholarship to even be here." He stated angrily.

Derrick chuckled.

"Good luck with that lame thinking as I said before, take a hike. Or should I make you?"

Monah began to worry as she didn't want to see Derrick destroy his future away for her loser ex.

"We need to leave." Monah pleaded with Derrick.

Ted was still disgusted.

He watched as the two walk away from him.

Receiving a high pass mark was what was always expected in the Spencer home. They were known as an educated bunch. A family that took their studies serious. Monah's father Ben Spencer wanted to do agriculture so that he could have his own farm. He could've been a pilot had he wanted but he loved farming more. Monah had her own interests as well. She loved biology because she wanted to do genetic engineering. However she knew that the course would require her to pass well and so be able to continue with her studies the following year. Her methods of studying including going to the library often and searching thoroughly about each topic on her books. It was her favourite method of understanding her subjects.

Tamara and Monah had both agreed to meet at the library. Tamara was thrilled by the invitation. She was mostly happy because she was excited to meet new people that were like her. But as she raised her eyes from her book she noticed that something was disturbing Monah's concentration. She had stopped looking into her book but rather watched outside the window.

"What's wrong?" Tamara asked, worried about her friend.

"It's your brother." Monah replied. "He harassed me today."

"But why would he do something like that?"

Monah exhaled heavily.

"He was jealous because I was with Derrick." She explained.

Tamara was taken aback.

"Who's Derrick?" She asked.

Monah chuckled.

"He's my classmate. We share a table in chemistry class."

"Ooh! I bet he's hot! No wonder my brother would get jealous."

A frown fell upon Monah's face.

"But he didn't have to make a scene. Everyone in my class now knows that Ted is my ex. He was even ready to start a fight with Derrick." Said the cinnamon eyed lady.

"I can't believe Ted would do something so stupid! He has Michelle. Why can't he let you be? Argh! I'll talk to him." Tamara pressed.

Monah exhaled heavily

"The worse part is that Lily made me share a room with Michelle."

Tamara placed her hand on her mouth in disbelief.

"You can still move in with me, it's not late. I'll pay the full amount I don't mind."

Monah smiled.

"That's very sweet but I'm not moving out of my room . Michelle will have to deal with the fact that I'm there and be haunted by that Ted and I used to be an item."

Tamara smiled, she leaned into her friend and brushed her hair with her fingers.

"So, tell me what he's like?"

"Who, Derrick?"

Her friend nodded quickly.

"He is charming, has big hands, he's nest and smells so good."

Tamara giggled.

"If he asks you out, say yes. Don't even dare hesitate." She advised.

Derrick entered the library, he was looking through some books when he noticed Monah chuckling with another student. He thought it would be a good idea to walk there and greet them before leaving. Tamara noticed a handsome tall guy walk towards them.

"Oh my word, there's a hottie coming our way. Don't look just yet. He's behind you." Tamara whispered.

"Ahem!" Derrick said, clearing his voice.

Monah turned and was shocked when she saw who it was

"Derrick! What are you doing here? I mean it's obvious you came to study." Said Monah, in a quick tense voice.

The handsome young man smiled.

"I just came to borrow a book and thought I should check on you before leaving." He said.

Tamara stood up from her chair and presented her right hand before Derrick so that he could kiss it. Monah pulled her down by the waist.

"Stop that. You're making a scene."

Derrick chuckled.

"Can I join you?" He asked.

Monah blushed.

"Uhm. Alright." She replied.

The handsome young man grabbed a chair and sat on it.

The three began to study together. Monah forgot completely about Ted. Her mind was now focussed and her spirit free of anger.
