"Can you hold on?"
Following closely behind Ye Xiu, Zhao Ruobing watched the beads of sweat gradually forming on his forehead, her eyes showing a hint of worry.
Deep down, she was genuinely concerned that Ye Xiu might not be able to endure.
As a surgeon, she understood the consequences if Ye Xiu faltered. The patient's upper body needed to be fixed in place, any movement could be fatal. Yet, Ye Xiu was holding the patient's upper body with both hands, moving forward cautiously.
If Ye Xiu were to falter even slightly and allow the patient's body to twist, it could result in the patient's death.
"I can hold on for now," Ye Xiu replied tersely, continuing forward without further ado.
Zhao Ruobing could see what Ye Xiu was going through and understood that speaking would only waste his energy. Without asking any more questions, she focused on keeping up with Ye Xiu's pace while taking out her phone to call the hospital and prepare for emergency treatment.
"Director Zhao, over here!"
Zhao Ruobing's arrangements proved effective. As soon as Zhao Ruobing and Ye Xiu reached the hospital entrance, a young doctor with a nurse was already preparing a mobile bed in the lobby on the first floor. Seeing Zhao Ruobing and Ye Xiu, the doctor hurriedly approached with the bed.
"Director Zhao?"
Ye Xiu looked at Zhao Ruobing with some surprise. Considering her age, she was around the same age as him, yet she was already a director?
Ye Xiu, being a doctor himself, understood the medical hierarchy in China. Becoming a director, even an associate director, was not an easy feat. It required passing multiple assessments and meeting various conditions.
Currently, Ye Xiu was only a attending physician.
Nevertheless, Ye Xiu was only momentarily surprised before focusing on placing the patient onto the mobile bed carefully.
As he set the patient down, Ye Xiu couldn't help but exhale deeply, shaking his hands a few times. Although the accident site wasn't far from the hospital, carrying a 150-160 pound person for nearly a kilometer with both hands raised was still challenging. His hands felt a bit numb.
"Did you carry him here just now?" the young doctor asked incredulously after helping Ye Xiu place the patient on the bed.
"Yes, there was no other way. The roads were completely blocked due to a traffic accident, and the ambulance couldn't get through. We couldn't afford any delays in his condition, so we had to carry him here. Fortunately, the accident site wasn't too far away, or else I wouldn't have been able to hold on," Ye Xiu explained with a smile.
"Director Zhao, is everything ready in the operating room?" Ye Xiu inquired.
Zhao Ruobing's gaze briefly swept over Ye Xiu with a complex expression. Despite the 1,000-meter journey, this guy had actually made it. His strength and determination were somewhat admirable.
But soon, her attention returned to the patient on the bed, and she pushed the bed towards the direction of the elevator, asking the young doctor coldly, "Are things in order in the operating room?"
"Director Zhao, you're alone?" the young doctor exclaimed in surprise, then his face immediately showed signs of concern. "Director Zhao, this won't do! Without an assistant, how can you manage? If Director Chen finds out, he definitely won't agree!"
Even though his medical skills weren't as professional as Zhao Ruobing's and Ye Xiu's, he could tell that the patient lying on the bed was in critical condition, and the surgery would be extremely difficult and risky.
Even if Director Chen and the others were present, there was no guarantee of success. Such surgery could easily lead to huge complications if unsuccessful!
Therefore, he felt that it was too risky for Zhao Ruobing to do this alone.
"Immediately inform Dr. Zhang!" Zhao Ruobing said coldly, giving the young doctor a stern look.
"But..." The young doctor's face showed a trace of helplessness. Eventually, under Zhao Ruobing's icy gaze, he picked up the phone and began to make arrangements.
