"What happened?" Drew asked as the girl held her knees as she sobbed.
Rem and the girl were the same age- but Rem didn't feel considerate at this moment, he was on edge even and was just about ready to summon his Monsters.
He also tried to perceive the surrounding area, to see whether any other mammalian creatures lay in the shadows, ready to ambush them.
"We shouldn't trust her," Rem muttered under his breath, "Logically, she shouldn't be able to survive,"
Drew gave Rem a glare but nevertheless, he continued spewing words of logic- learnt from his time in the slums, he learned not to trust strangers… Honestly Rem wouldn't be surprised if they were ambushed at this moment, it was a honest-to-god survival tactic used to take down weaker combatants.
'Life is Survival of the fittest anyway,' Rem thought.
"We have been traveling through the forest for quite a while, as you said- the monsters are powerful and even the one we met earlier would have been able to kill me in an instant," Rem said.
Although he didn't believe that the Anomaly would have been able to kill him- not when he had the Immortal Goblin army… but he still didn't have enough MP to make them last, and his reserves drained faster if they did since he would have to restore them.
'In time, I will have enough MP to be able to lead an army of different kinds of monsters,' Rem thought.
Drew's eyes narrowed in realization.
"Besides she looks like she doesn't have any combat capabilities so the only noteworthy position she would serve as is a distraction," Rem said aloud, "She's a bit bruised up but that should be intentional, They can't let such a prized possession get hurt in the grand scheme of things, so our attackers must have some healing potions in their possession,"
The air was still as Drew was shocked, it had been mere moments for Rem but Drew would have taken some minutes to realize that…
'He's sharp,' Drew thought, 'but there's also a possibility-'
His thoughts were cut off as a man appeared on a tree above them, he clapsed a Magic Iron sword as the tension in the air grew. Slowly but surely, more humans emerged from the trees and bushes- they easily amounted to 10…
A fight was about to break out and Drew turned to face Rem.
"Hi-"
Once again, he stuttered- the boy had already vanished into thin air, probably hiding somewhere nearby. Rem didn't have any combat capabilities so he would only serve as heavy weight but Rem thought differently.
'Although some are out… there are still some hidden,' Rem thought from his clever hiding spot which was not going to be revealed, 'Their band is quite big and I was right about the girl being a diversion- Well while Drew focuses on the tuff guys, I'll take down the hidden subordinates,'
Rem didn't actually believe he could do anything physical against the hidden humans which he could perceive but just because he couldn't do anything like fighting head on didn't mean that there weren't others ways to win a fight-
He waved his hand and his eyes lit up in a green light, it wasn't too bright but any Magus would have been able to feel a small magical disturbance- the ground besides Rem rippled as a green portal formed, a hand clawed out of the portal and a Goblin soldier emerged.
Rem poured more MP into the soldier, it's skin glistening as Rem could feel the power of the Goblin increasing. The goblin stared into the eyes of Rem, it's gaze unfaltering as it knelt to Rem.
'It feels good when they kneel,' Rem thought as he quickly gave out the orders, because he didn't want to miss on the show- he was sure Drew would make a fuss over it though, insinuating that the girl was innocent.
In Rem's honest opinion, he would have either avoided this whole area entirely once the girl was nearby, OR he would have killed the girl and used the surprise of the bandits as an advantage, navigating and weaving through the forest to get away from them.
But Drew was not that kind of person- he was righteous and his soul seemed untainted…
'Perhaps that is why I got this System,' Rem thought. Drew's soul was still pure in a way but Rem… he had seen different kinds of things in this life and his soul grew dark.
Rem shrugged, he discarded the thoughts that only the righteous were rewarded.
"I want you to kill the humans hidden, leave the ones in view to my sensei and attack from the shadows," Rem gave the order and the Goblin soldier rose, it's figure blurring under Rem's steady gaze as it vanished.
'Hold up, I didn't think Goblins would be this fast!' Rem thought.
Sure he was allocating great amounts of MP into the Goblin, this was due to the fact that they had healing potions- he could heal them up and collect more souls too so everything was alright in the long run.
Drew gave a small sigh as the girl continued wailing.
"Why did you hurt this child?" Drew asked as he looked at the first man that appeared, not only was this man considerably faster than the others but- there was something stranger than that, his capabilities, the aura that surrounded him- it seemed to be that of a Cavalier.
The man gave Drew a crazy smile.
"She's just a beastkin," He said as he squatted on the tree trunk, "They're not humans anyway and we bought her from a slave trader, and now she's working on paying back the prize of her purchase… with tax,"
Drew didn't deter, his legs and gaze were unwavering.
"Look at her- what did you do?" He asked while brandishing his Magic Iron sword, its form glistening in the light.
"You wanna play hero, huh?" The man asked while taking out his own Magic Iron sword, "Well, if you're going to stand in my way then I might as well kill you,"
Their murderous intent covered the battlefield and even Rem couldn't help but suppress a gulp, he couldn't wait to see how their battle would unfold.
