Feng Suyin walked through the familiar hallways of Longyu Metropolitan Hospital, glancing at the time on her phone to confirm she wasn't late. Ji Yuzhe's surgery was scheduled for 3PM, but she needed to come early to go over the final details and preparations. When she reached her husband's private room, she saw that three intravenous lines were running from Ji Yuzhe's arm, connected to bags of clear fluids hanging above him. His eyes were closed, the long lashes casting shadows on his pale cheeks.
She had never seen her husband as vulnerable as he appeared now. The usually composed and confident Ji Yuzhe lay so still on the hospital bed, his chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm. She approached his bedside, the soft sound of her footsteps echoing in the sterile room.
As if sensing her presence, Ji Yuzhe cracked his eyes open. He turned his head slightly towards the sound of her footsteps, a faint smile gracing his lips as he whispered, "Suyin, you're here."
