One night, as usual, Caliph Umar (R.A.) came to Madinah on his horse.
There is a hill on the outskirts of the city.
Umar (ra) saw the light visible on the hill as a miracle like never before and directed his horse towards that direction.
A man was sitting under a tree on a hill. He was very pitiful to watch. He was seen with a long beard and bald head.
Caliph Umar (RA) went to the man and asked him lovingly, "Sir, who are you? Why are you sitting anxiously?"
The man replied, "I am a wayfarer; I and my wife, who is pregnant, have set out to go to the next town. On the way, she has gone into labor. There, she is writhing in agony behind that tree. There is no one else to help. She just wants a little light." I set fire to it," he said with tears in his eyes.
On learning that a woman was throbbing in labor, Caliph Umar (R.A.) hurried back home without a moment's delay.
"One who hastened to wake up his sleeping wife and said,
"A reward from God"
Action awaits us. Can you help?" he asked.
"Command, O Ameerul Mumineen, I await to do," said his consort.
"Then depart with me at once," said the Khalifa, "and take some food."
In the next few minutes the Khalifa and his wife arrived at the hill.
The passerby's wife could not bear the pain of childbirth and was crying.
Khalifa's consort, who understood the situation in a second, readily rendered the necessary assistance to the girl.
After a while-
From behind the tree I heard the baby crying.
"O Ameerul Mumineen, your friend has given birth to a beautiful baby boy," the Khalifa's consort came out happily.
The passer-by stopped in awe. Only then did he realize that standing in front of him was Caliph Umar, and that his wife was being delivered by the Caliph's consort.
The wayfarer was moved by the grace of the Caliph, who was ready at any moment to help the helpless poor.
In the Quran, Allah (SWT) says: "Help one another in acts of piety and righteousness. And do not assist each other in acts of sinfulness and transgression. And be aware of Allah. Verily, Allah is severe in punishment", (Surat Al-Ma'idah, 2).
