Chapter 37 - Life Is Long

Weisheng sat before Xiaoling, quietly observing her as she wrote a letter. She had offered him to take tea before they started anything.

Weisheng cleared his throat, "What is this for?" He asked in a low tone, trying not to offend her for peeking.

Xiaoling curled one corner of her lips and scoffed, "What do you think?" She asked while keeping her eyes on the paper.

Her hand wrote each character meticulously. Her handwriting was elegant and soft, easy to read and direct. Weisheng dared peek at the paper. Although it was upside down, he could make out a few characters.

Xiaoling looked up at him, "Don't tell me you're thinking I'm writing a love letter," She scoffed.

"Huh?" Weisheng looked at her dumbfoundedly, "Why would I think that?"

"The way you're so curious could only mean you're jealous," Xiaoling playfully teased him, continuing to write.

Weisheng chuckled in a daze, "Are you trying to summon your lover?"

Xiaoling scoffed, "I'd rather date you than that man."

"Oh?" Weisheng raised an eyebrow. He leaned forward on the table.

Xiaoling paused and looked at him with an interrogative gaze.

"You'll date him if he's in my body?" Weisheng asked, teasing her back.

Xiaoling clicked her tongue and smacked Weisheng's head with her brush. Weisheng quickly backed off, chuckling with victory. He didn't think he would be able to get the upper hand while teasing her.

Xiaoling shook her head in amusement. She set her brush aside and folded the paper halfway, stuffing it inside an envelope.

"I'm sure the others told you some secrets of mine while I was away," She murmured as she grabbed her wax seal, melting it over a candle.

Weisheng's eyes widened, "How did you find out?"

Xiaoling smiled in amusement. The red viscous wax melted and fell onto the envelope. Before it could cool down, Xiaoling pressed a gold-colored metal stamp onto the red blob. As she pulled the stamp away, a double dragon pattern appeared. One of the dragons was a longhorn. It stood out even from a distance.

"Since you know about me already," Xiaoling said, "I'll just tell you." She added while lightly tapping the seal to make sure it had dried, "This is my weekly letter to my little enemy in the Heaven Realm. Can you guess who that might be?"

Weisheng narrowed his eyes, "Heaven's Arbiter?"

Xiaoling nodded with surprise, "Looks like they told you everything," She chuckled, "I thought they would tell you about me to keep your headspace safe from whatever is going on in your real life. I didn't think they wouldn't spare any details." She seemed amused.

"Is this why you hid it from me?" Weisheng asked, "So, you could use it to divert my attention later?"

Xiaoling nodded shamelessly, "It worked, didn't it?" She smiled, "I'm more interesting than your problems, aren't I?"

Weisheng couldn't help but smile. He nodded, "You are very interesting."

Xiaoling chuckled since her great plan worked well. Even Weisheng couldn't disagree. At the moment, even if he tried, he couldn't dwell on his real-life problems. It was a mystery to him as well. How could he not think about his issues but Xiaoling?

"So, what did you write in the letter?" Weisheng asked.

"Nothing much," Xiaoling truthfully replied, "It's just a weekly thing. Mr. Arbiter doesn't even read my letters anymore. They're all the same anyway."

"May I ask why you and Heaven's Arbiter are on bad terms?" Weisheng asked, "From what I understand, isn't he supposed to be in charge of your reincarnation? How did you end up offending him to the point he won't read your letters?"

"Good question," Xiaoling said, "Weisheng," She sighed, "If I knew why he avoids me, why would I write to him every week?"

Weisheng frowned, "So…" He sighed, "You don't even know why you're stuck in the Mortal Realm. Is that what it is?"

Xiaoling nodded, "Don't fret about it. It's nothing new. I'm used to this life. Although I write to him now and then, it doesn't mean I find this life dreadful. I enjoy it as long as I have neverending money."

Weisheng chuckled, "No wonder you find such strange ways to make money…"

Xiaoling shrugged, "Life is long. Better live it lavishly!"

Her playful expression suddenly disappeared, and she stood up. Weisheng pulled himself to stand as well.

"On that note," Xiaoling sighed, "Xiao Qiang is reincarnating in two days," She murmured, "I'm going to see her off at the Soul Bridge. If we're lucky, we might see Heaven's Arbiter. Will you come with me?"

Weisheng pressed his lips, "Um…"

"Your curse won't interfere in front of someone as strong as Mr. Arbiter. Don't worry." She assured him.

"Then, I don't have any problem," Weisheng smiled.

Xiaoling faintly smiled. She walked toward Weisheng and looked up at him.

"Mr. Supreme Demon Lord," She called the other person inside Weisheng, "I know you can hear me," She added while smiling, "So, be good, or else I might not date you."

Weisheng chuckled, "Are you seriously saying that?"

Xiaoling narrowed her eyes, "You said that the Supreme Demon Lord has a thing for me. Isn't it better to use it to our advantage?"

"I suppose he can very well hear what you just said," Weisheng laughed, "You just exposed our plan to him."

Xiaoling gasped, "Oh, no!" She complained, "Why didn't you tell me before? I should've minded my words."

"Master," Weisheng called her with seriousness, "I don't think you should play around with his feelings. What if we offend him?"

Xiaoling looked into Weisheng's eyes. They were brown and harmless. Any moment, they could turn pink and turn the world upside down. After knowing that Xiaoling Internal Energy didn't do much to suppress the great entity of the Supreme Demon Lord, they had no choice but to avoid offending him.

"Are you offended, Mr. Supreme Demon Lord?" Xiaoling asked fearlessly.

Weisheng frowned in confusion. Despite being powerless, Xiaoling was bold and straightforward. He was worried her current stance might ruin the Demon Lord's mood.

But nothing happened. Xiaoling chuckled and shook her head as if she already predicted nothing would happen. She turned around to walk away when Weisheng suddenly grabbed her wrist. He pulled her toward himself, and she stumbled to support herself, grabbing his arm in the fit of the moment.

"Offend me again, Xiao Hua," Weisheng's tone deepened.

Xiaoling looked at him with surprise. She gulped upon looking at his eyes.

"Offend me again, and I might steal your chance to run away from me."
