I stood at the edge of my office, staring out the window at the bustling city below. The morning sunlight reflected off the glass buildings, but my mood was anything but bright. Elena's words still echoed in my mind—her pain, her anger, her disappointment.
It had been hours since she walked out, yet I couldn't shake the memory of her tear-streaked face. She had every right to feel the way she did. I had failed her. And now, the woman I loved more than anything was slipping through my fingers again.
But there wasn't time to dwell on that now.
"Boss, Butch is here," Sarah's voice came through the intercom.
"Send him in," I replied, my tone firm.
Moments later, Butch walked in, his expression grim but focused. He was holding a tablet in his hand, and I could tell from the way his jaw was set that he had news.
