Catherine hurriedly unbettles herself as they gets to the hospital. She rushes out, thank him and runs inside.
Sebastien tries to stop her to wait and take her phone which she has forgotten in the car but she is already inside talking to one of the nurses at the reception .He comes out of the car and sees her running to the stairs
'Catherine!' He calls and refrains himself. She is now on the stairs heading towards the emergency section.
He looks at her phone in his hands and thinks of going after her but can't. The scent of the hospital he hates to smell ever since his mum died. The smell of the disinfectant anytime he perceives them reminds him of his mum's death and he isn't ready to go through that now.
He looks around confused.
Catherine gets to the emergency section and sees Mrs Johnson at the waiting room sitting but down. Catherine walks up to her
'Oh thank goodness You're here' Mrs Johnson says feeling a bit relieved.
Catherine looks at the door and Mrs Johnson follows her gaze. 'The doctor is attending to her' she adds
'How did it happen?' Catherine questions
'Actually,' she explains ' I was outside to throw the trash when I heard things falling from the kitchen. Apparently she was there to take something. So', she continues , 'I called her to make sure she was okay but didn't hear any reply so I went in and saw her collapsed on the floor.'
Catherine sighs and comforts herself walking back and forth in the room.
'She'll be fine'. She runs to the doctor as she sees him coming out of the room.
'How is she doctor?' Catherine anxiously asks him
'Who is her guardian?' he asks them skipping her question intentionally
'I am,' Catherine replies waiting to hear the reply, 'I'm her daughter'
'Okay she's stable' replies the doctor and they sigh. He faces Catherine ' I need to see you in my office,' he says and walk away. Catherine looks towards the emergency door where her mum is then follows him.
They enter the office consisting of three office chairs and an office table at its center. They are various diagram of human internal organs and some medical objects representing some of the diagrams like the heart on the table.
Catherine feels uneasy with the pictures and tries to divert her face from it, concentrating on the doctor .
He gestures her to seat down. 'Well' he pronounces taking his seat and facing her 'Judging from her record here,' he brings out a file , 'she has cancer. Hope you know ?' ' he asks and continues after Catherine nods 'It's stage four and I'm sorry to say that the only thing she can do now is to respond well to treatment,'
Catherine nods again to what she just hear , fighting back tears 'So how long does she have' she finally let out the question she has been fighting back.
'As I've said depending on how well she responds to treatment' he replies and continues, 'If it goes fine then I can say a couple of years but otherwise, just hope she responds well' he says trying to encourage her.
'She will have to be here for now until further changes' he adds.
'Thank you doctor,' Catherine replies and bows her head allowing the tears to flow. She wipes them off and stands up, heading to the door. She stops as she lays her hand on the door knob and turns back to the doctor 'Can I see her now'
'I'm sorry you can't. She is not fully awake yet and it's best you let her be' he replies
'Okay' Catherine responds and walks out.
She walks back to the waiting room and sees Mrs Johnson still seating.
'Thank you so much Mrs Johnson I'm really grateful if not for you who knows what would have happened?' she appreciates
'You're welcome,' she replies and look at the emergency door, 'Are we allowed to see her now?' she asks
'No not yet' replies Catherine
'Ok then You can go back to your work I'll stay with her till you get back' she says
'What of your kids? Aren't they at home?' Catherine questions back
'They'll be fine and besides, their dad is at home,' she replies
Up to that very spot Catherine did not believe Mrs Johnson could be so nice. Because, apart from the fact they live next door , they don't really interact with her only that her mum loves her kids and she knits for them.
'Thank you so much,' she thanks her again 'I'll be back soon'
Mrs Johnson nods holding her hands 'It's my pleasure. Don't worry she'll be fine'
Catherine tries to smile. A lot is going in her head and she knows she won't be able to concentrate back at the Kingsley's but she has to go because she didn't inform Bianca and it's almost their dinner time.
'Yeah! Catherine' Mrs Johnson calls remembering something 'a nurse came the other time you were with the doctors saying a guy is outside waiting to give you something '
'A guy?' Catherine questions a bit surprise, 'oh' she remembers 'Sebastien' faces her, 'Thanks so much once again. I'll be back as soon as possible' she tells her and hurries outside.
She walks out of the hospital and sees Sebastien waiting by the car 'You're still here?' she asks
'Yeah', he replies and brings out her phone from his pocket 'You forgot this and thought you'd probably need it'
'Oh!' she exclaim collecting it 'Thanks so much. I didn't even noticed. I was You know' she stops thinking he knows the rest of the statement
'In a rush' he completes it
'By the way why didn't you come inside rather than staying outside in the sun' she ask squin
ting at the sunlight as she looks up.
'I don't like entering a hospital I mean didn't like it since my mum's death' he replies
'i'm sorry' Catherine sympathises
'No I'm not trying to be sympathetic. it's just I know how you feel seeing your mum on that bed,' he explains, 'By the way how is she?' he inquires
'She's stable but not awake yet so I haven't seen her. Probably when I get back she will be up by then' she replies
'No you don't have to go back with me. You should stay with her'
'But I didn't inform anyone I was leaving' she fights back
'Me!'
'Pardon?' she demands
'I mean I'm informed. You really don't have to come with me. I'll inform Bianca.' He opens the car 'Take care' he says and enters the car driving away.
He looks at Catherine from the rear window still standing and wonders what has come over him. He feels so sorry for her and that is unlike him. He concludes maybe because he knows how it feels to have someone you love sick and weak.He accelerates his speed and drives far away from the hospital.
