Chapter 11 - Chapter eleven

Catherine stays with her mum all night at the hospital. She leaves so early for home the next morning to make her food and get ready for work having make sure she is fine. She promises her to come back on time.

She gets to the house and sees the kitchen in disarray. The cups and broken plates are on the floor. She moves closer to clean them up and notices blood on a piece of the broken plate.

Someone had injured herself and she concludes to be Mrs Johnson. She feels so grateful to her and starts cleaning.

After that, she makes breakfast and eat. She hasn't taken anything since the previous day lunch at the Kingsley. She takes her bath and dresses up. She locks the door and walks to Mrs Johnson's door.

She knocks the door. The children are in the living room watching TV.

'Yes?' one of them inquires. Catherine guess him to be Thomas, the older one. 'Who's at the door?' he demands further

'It's me Catherine' she replies slightly raising her voice.

'Mum! sis Catherine is at the door' one of them tells the mum at the inner room. This time he is Sam, the younger one. Catherine guesses.

The door opens few seconds later 'oh!

Catherine', Mrs Johnson remarks coming outside. She closes the door gently to prevent the volume of the TV from disturbing them. 'How're you doing? And how's your mum?' She asks

'Getting better' Catherine responds 'Thanks so much for yesterday'

'It's nothing' she replies

'How's your leg?' asks Catherine pointing to her legs

'Leg?' she asks confused

'I saw a stain of blood on the floor and thought you are the one that got injured' she replies

'oh!' she recalls 'Yeah but it's nothing much. Just a minor cut. So are you leaving for work now?'

' I want to drop this,' showing a small lunch box in bag in her hand, 'food to her first then go to work from there ' Catherine replies

'Let me have it then. I'll go give it to her after dressing the boys up' she says collecting the bag from her

'Thank you very much' Catherine appreciates

'You're always welcome ' she replies and opens the door 'See you later' she enters inside.

Catherine sighs and walks down the road. She enters a cab to the Kingsley.

She opens the door and walks straight to the Kitchen seeing no one at the living room. She already knows what to cook having work with them now for six months.

Bianca walks down to the living room as she serves breakfast.

Catherine hears the footsteps and greets, 'Good morning ma'

'Morning Catherine, how're you doing?' she answers taking her seat

'I'm so sorry for leaving yesterday without informing...'

'It's alright', she cuts in, 'Sebastien told us you had an emergency. So how is your mother' she asks

'Getting better' replies Catherine

'Round up your work quickly today so you can leave early and see me before you go' she instructs

'Okay ma'. Thank you' . She replies and leaves the last dish on the table and set to do other things.

She meets Michael coming down from stairs and greets 'Good morning '

'Hi Catherine ', he answers and stops her 'how's your mum' he asks

'Fine thanks' she replies and walks away.

Catherine goes out to get some stuffs at the market and couldn't see Sebastien during breakfast to appreciates for what he did yesterday. She gets back to the house and takes some coffee to his room. She knocks and opens the door. She sees him painting always

'Hi' she greets closing the door. She hands the coffee to him.

'So mindful of you', he compliments and collect it sipping part of it.

Catherine waits till he drops the cup 'Thanks so much for yesterday. I really appreciate'

'You're welcome' Sebastien replies 'how is she now?' he asks

'Fine. She's awake now' replies Catherine looking at the paintings on the bed. 'Is this your mum?' she asks taking out a piece of the painting portraying a smiling young woman

Sebastien looks at the painting 'Yeah she is'

'She's beautiful', she compliments, 'And I love her smile' she adds

Sebastien collects the pictures, studies it and smile to himself 'she wasn't able to smile that much before she died. I wanted a memorable picture of her that could elevate my mood any day I see her painting that's why I made her this bright' he says more to himself.
