Adrian stood between Cormac and Elara. He stood out against the chaos going on around them. Cormac's evil had made his eyes hollow and dark, but now they burned with a brightness Elara hadn't seen in a long time. He looked like he was free. There was a dim glow in the air around him, like the last traces of a dying star. The light pushed back the shadows that were coming closer.
Cormac's face turned angry and shocked at the same time. "Impossible," he growled, his voice low and mean. "You were mine. I bound you with my power. You should be groveling at my feet!"
Adrien looked at Elara and for a moment his eyes got softer. "I'm sorry for everything," he said quietly, the weight of his guilt obvious in his voice. "But I'm here now, and I'm going to make this right."
