Clang—! Clang—! Clang—!
Sparks flew in the air as a black dagger kept hitting the blue fish scales. Hours had passed, and the same process repeated itself.
"Kukuku!" Clack Stark laughed at the pitiful actions of the inmates. "Can't you see that the blade of your dagger is already blunt? There is no way you can win against me."
Seeing that the silver-haired girl wasn't planning to listen to him, the chief corrections officer clenched his fist and threw a punch at her face.
Bam—!
The attack connected nicely and pushed the pink-skinned alien back a few inches. Layla had run out of ideas to beat the man before her.
However, that didn't mean she gave up. Whipping out her running nose, she used her bloody hands to grip her black dagger.
With a surge of adrenaline, she channeled her strength into her legs and dashed at the bald man with fish scales.
Clang—! Sparks flew in the air.
The same thing happened again. Nonetheless, Layla wasn't going to give up on the person she personally picked as an opponent over the gazillion prison guards.
"I can win this. I feel it in my bones."
Her silver eyes rolled around, trying to locate any weakness in Clack's body, but everything she saw was coated in blue steel.
Clack felt annoyed by these repeating actions. It reminded him of his grandmother's mixtape that bored the hell out of him.
As an expert in mixed martial arts, Clack flexed his body and started by hitting Layla with his knee.
Bam—!
Thanks to wearing battle suit pants, the force of the attack increased. However, the chief didn't stop there. He delivered a combo of kicks and punches on the young girl.
Having said that, the bloodied girl noticed a glimmer of light reflecting off a small crack in his fish-scale body. Her determination fueled up, and hope started to surge within her.
She stepped back with a bloodied grin on her face, taking a break from Clack's beating. This petty action was an achievement for her.
"Kukuku! Did you finally realize that I am invincible against you? Seriously, as someone from Verdienst, I will do you a favor and kill you quickly."
Hearing the name of her hometown coming out of that rectangular-shaped face, Layla gritted her teeth. This person was one of those who lived off the hero's effort, while the hero lived on wound droppings.
In the chief's mind, all that didn't matter. "You were the promising young hero when I left Verdienst to enlist as a prison guard. You are a saint, you don't belong in this kind of place."
The pink-skinned girl scoffed at the man. "I am not a saint, and I would rather not be."
Clack shook his head a few times. "Tsk, Tsk, Tsk. Shame on you. If you stayed in Verdienst, your life would be different now."
"As if!" The girl exclaimed as she charged in to perform a sweep kick, aiming to knock the man of blue steel down.
But Clark did not call himself the best in mixed martial artist for nothing. He anticipated her sweep kick and swiftly jumped over the attack, landing a few feet away from Layla.
"Why the sudden change of moves? Did she notice something?" The corrections chief officer's mind raced as he plainly glared at the inmate.
Layla quickly noticed that Clark had put his guard up, and he was now going to get serious with her. However, that is what she wanted him to do.
With a little itchy feeling in her bones, she charged at the prison guard with her black dagger in hand. Clark did the same, as he couldn't waste any more time on someone lower than his league.
Swish, Swish, Swish—!
Clark's martial art combos whistled in the air as the young girl weaved around him like a snake. However, with each dodge Layla performed, she made sure to land a hit on the fish scales.
"Tsk. Damn!" Frustration reflected on the chief's face through numerous veins popping up.
Clark was lacking in terms of agility compared to Layla, despite the effect of Taylor's buff being applied to him. This made him lose his composure, making his moves more frantic.
Clark jumped back to take a breather. Constantly activating his zodiac ability all over himself had been taking a toll on him, and he was positive that the inmate before him noticed this.
He deactivated his ability, and his fair skin glowed in the F Block hallway for the first time, but he didn't care about that as he rushed towards Layla.
The inmate's eyes twitched a little bit as the combos coming at her were faster than before. However, she was sure they weren't stronger.
Taking advantage of her agile body, Layla performed a series of acrobatic flips and spins to annoy the skinny man. While doing so, she made sure to swing her dagger at Clark's fish scales.
Clang—!
The result was still the same. The prison guard's body was still like a sheet of steel. That being said, Layla was able to form many cracks on the fish scales.
However, she couldn't help but feel something strange with the way she was doing things. Following her instincts, Layla halted her movements.
Still and all, that didn't matter to Clark as he took this chance to charge at the girl and tried to perform a jab in her gut.
Taking advantage of this free food, Layla spun and managed to turn her body to perform a kick that sent Clark flying.
Bam—!
Blood poured out of the chief's mouth as he crashed against the cell bar, making all the scales on his upper body crack. Layla grinned as things would be easier for her now.
However, her nightmare was just beginning. The scales started growing back, but unlike last time, these ones were made out of steel and had spiky ends.
