From now on, she didn't want to see that man ever again, nor would there be any further dealings between them.
As she sat in the taxi, Chen Zhi's hand gripped her handbag tightly, inside of which was a check for five hundred thousand. A scalding check, yet one that she couldn't let go of even if it killed her.
Upon arriving at the hospital and paying the one hundred thousand deposit for the hospitalization fee, Chen Zhi adjusted her mindset before entering the ward.
Chen Zhi's mother lay weakly on the hospital bed, showing a peaceful smile on her still beautiful face when she saw her daughter enter.
"Xiaozhi, you've come."
"Mom, how are you feeling?" she approached, placing the fruits and nutritional supplements down before holding her mother's hand.
Chen Zhi's mother gave an indifferent smile, "It's the same old problem; it's been so many years and it can't be cured. Xiaozhi, go and handle the discharge procedures for me. Staying in the hospital is just a waste of money."
"Mom!" Chen Zhi pressed down on her body as she attempted to rise, "We must treat an illness if we have one, we can't just drag it on, or else your body will get weaker and weaker. Don't worry, I've already paid the hospitalization fee, there's no need to worry about money."
She was well aware that her mother wanted to be discharged because she was afraid they couldn't afford the hospital fees.
Chen Zhi's mother looked startled, asking in confusion, "Xiaozhi, one hundred thousand isn't a small sum for the hospitalization fee; where did you get so much money?"
Chen Zhi smiled faintly, "Didn't I find a part-time job last time? It pays five thousand a night, and I asked the boss for an advance of one hundred thousand, which I've just used to pay the hospital fees. So, rest easy and focus on recovering, don't worry about anything."
"I remember you mentioning it, playing the piano at banquets for the wealthy, five thousand a night. But banquets aren't held every day, and besides, why would they be willing to advance you one hundred thousand?"
Chen Zhi took out an apple, and while peeling it, she replied with a smile, "Why wouldn't there be? Mom, you haven't seen how those wealthy people live, their lives are so boring, filled with gatherings every day. To them, one hundred thousand is just a drop in the bucket, what we consider a lot, they don't see the same way."
Chen Zhi's mother nodded thoughtfully, "That's true, I forgot what life is like for the wealthy."
There was a hint of nostalgic lament in her tone, but the guilt-ridden Chen Zhi did not catch it.
She was lost in her own thoughts; if it hadn't been for attending that banquet performance last time, she probably wouldn't have found herself selling her body last night.
