"Wah! Daddy, give it back!"
Yueyue's arms flailed wildly in the air as Ren held her head, keeping her from moving.
"Gotta say, toys these days are really something," Ren said, holding Yueyue's magical girl wand and examining it closely.
He swiped the wand lightly over one of the accessories on the sofa, and it made a sound. Not only that, the patterns on the wand changed as well, much to Ren's amazement.
He still remembered the toys he had as a child, which at most had switches and buttons to make sounds.
"Hey, let Liliath show you some magic!" Ren said, releasing Yueyue's head and striking a pose with the wand.
Yueyue, who was about to snatch her wand back, stood still in shock, as if she had turned to stone.
After a long moment, Yueyue dropped to her knees in an orz pose, hitting the ground with her small hands. "Waaah, Liliath isn't like that!"
A nearly thirty-year-old man pretending to be a little girl was just too much. Yueyue felt her idol, Liliath, was being ruined by her own daddy.
Just then, the front door opened.
Yueyue's crying stopped abruptly as she looked towards the entrance.
Jada walked in, followed by three people—two women and one man.
Seeing Yueyue crying and Ren striking a pose with the magical girl wand, their expressions froze.
This must be the Porter. They never expected the famous manga artist to have such a peculiar hobby.
Geniuses often have their quirks, it seems.
"Mommy!" Yueyue ran to Jada in her little slippers, hugging her leg and sobbing. "Daddy bullied me!"
Jada glanced at Yueyue clinging to her leg and then at Ren, sighing as she rubbed her forehead.
"Enough, stop messing around," Jada said, turning to the three people behind her and waving them in. "Come in."
The two women and one man were all relatively young.
The man had short hair and a little stubble, standing about 5'7", slightly shorter than Ren.
The women included one with a ponytail and the other with freckles. Both looked quite calm and composed.
"This is Michelle, Jaz, and Felix. They've worked as assistants for various artists before. As for Claire, her parents will bring her over after school."
Jada introduced each person to Ren.
"Hello," Ren said, stepping forward to shake hands with each of them.
At that moment, the girl with freckles, Jaz, suddenly pulled out a copy of *Your Name* and handed it to Ren. "Porter, please sign this for me!"
After learning yesterday that she would be working for the Porter, she had been thrilled! This would be the Porter's first autograph, a real collector's item!
"Wait! The Porter's first autograph should be mine!" Felix said, pulling out her own copy.
"No, the teacher's first autograph is mine!" Even Michelle joined in.
...
"Is this the place?"
Looking up at the villa, Claire was a bit stunned.
She had wanted to help Ren save money by offering to be his manga assistant, but she didn't expect the person who saved her to live in such a big house.
This wasn't necessary at all, was it?
Taking a deep breath, Claire knocked on the door.
The door opened quickly, and Jada smiled at Claire. "Come in."
"Thanks for having me," Claire said, feeling a bit out of place as she entered the villa and followed Jada to Ren's studio.
"This will be your workspace," Jada said, pointing to the door. "Including you, there are four assistants in total. But if you have any issues, just let us know. You're not expected to do this full-time."
Jada opened the door and called out, "Ren, the last half-assistant is here!"
Half-assistant?
Claire tilted her head in confusion but didn't dwell on it. She quickly looked around the room.
The room was large, with several desks. Four of them were occupied, covered with stacks of drawing paper.
There was also a scanner and a computer in the room.
The walls were adorned with numerous posters of *Your Name* and *Cooking Master Boy*.
This gave Claire a sense of connection. She never expected this manga artist to also like these works.
"Come on in and find a seat," Ren said, smiling. "Make yourself at home. By the way, do you know how to use digital drawing tools? While we still do some hand-drawing, digital tools are much more convenient for post-processing."
It was the 21st century, after all. Digital drawing tools were very useful.
However, Ren still preferred to scan his drawings and do the coloring and finishing touches on the computer.
"No, I don't…" Claire said, feeling a bit embarrassed as she shook her head.
Although she had practiced at home, she didn't have a scanner or digital drawing tools. She usually drew directly on paper.
"Oh, it's simple. I'll teach you," Ren said, taking a piece of drawing paper and sitting down at a computer. "I'll show you how to add tones on the computer."
Claire nodded obediently and followed Ren to the computer, ready to learn.
But when she saw what was on the computer screen, she was stunned.
It was a page from *Cooking Master Boy*!
More importantly, she was sure this content hadn't been published yet. It was from the upcoming story!
Could it be…
Claire had an incredible thought but found it too coincidental to believe.
"What's wrong?" Ren asked, noticing Claire's hesitation.
"Are you… the Porter?" Claire asked, barely able to contain her excitement.
