The elevator doors opened with a soft chime, and Paula stepped out, making her way to the CEO's office. When she walked in, the large room was empty, the sleek, contemporary furniture a sharp contrast to the fire that was building inside Paula.
She took a seat on the sofa, crossing her legs as she waited.
A few minutes later, the door opened, and her father, Gerald, walked in. He looked haggard, with dark circles under his eyes, like a man who hadn't slept in days. His surprise at seeing Paula quickly gave way to a scowl, and his voice dripped with disdain as he spoke.
"So, you're here," he said, his tone harsh. "Come to gloat after ruining your sister's life? You've fooled us all along, acting like a sweet little child. I hope you're not here to beg for forgiveness or to ask to be taken back into this family. If that's the case, you might as well leave right now. Even if you want to amend things, start by helping your sister first."
