Chereads / RWBY: Oscar the gamer / Chapter 40 - Testing

Chapter 40 - Testing

Ruby looked at Yang, as she spoke. "But why me".

Yang fixed Ember Celica, as then she put Bone Gauntlet on top it, as it fused with Ember Celica permanently. "Just wanna test them out".

Ruby looked at her sister. "Ok, but go easy".

Meanwhile Weiss loaded the new dust, that looked like half of a fire and half lighting dust. "Let's do this Blake".

Blake ready her weapon and her new ice dagger. "Yeah let's do this".

Oscar was in the side looking at this, ready to step if anything happens, he is basically the vice leader of Team ROWBY at this point, anyway where are they, they are in the training room

The training room was set up for a rigorous session. The team had gathered, each of them ready to test their new gear and abilities. The large space was filled with a variety of targets, ranging from dummies to automated combat robots, all waiting to be put to the test.

Yang, with her new Bone Gauntlet fused onto Ember Celica, was cracking her knuckles with a fierce grin. "Alright, let's see what this baby can do." She flexed her arms, feeling the added weight and power of the gauntlets as they adjusted seamlessly with Ember Celica's mechanisms. "Oscar, I hope you didn't overdo it. Don't want to break anything."

Ruby stood off to the side, watching her sister with concern. "Just remember, we're testing them, not demolishing the whole room, okay?"

Yang just winked at her. "Don't worry, I got this."

On the opposite side of the room, Weiss was preparing her weapon, Myrtenaster, and loading the new specialized dust Oscar had given her. The half-fire, half-lightning dust shimmered as it was loaded into the chamber of the blade. Weiss narrowed her eyes, a determined expression on her face as she spoke to Blake. "Let's see if this Dust lives up to the hype."

Blake, holding her new Ice Dagger, readied herself. Her dual-wielding style would now include this new addition alongside Gambol Shroud. She looked at Weiss, giving a small nod. "I'm with you."

Oscar, standing a bit away from the group, was mentally prepared for whatever might happen. As the vice-leader of Team ROWBY, he had learned to anticipate chaos, especially with a team as unpredictable as this one. His eyes flickered over each of them, ensuring that they were all handling their new weapons safely. He wasn't sure how they'd react to the changes, but he trusted them to stay within their limits.

He cleared his throat and raised his hand, drawing everyone's attention for a moment. "Alright, team. Remember, this is a test, not a free-for-all. If anything goes wrong, I'm here to step in."

Ruby grinned, pumping a fist in the air. "Got it, Oscar! Time to show off!"

Yang cracked her knuckles again, the Bone Gauntlet glowing faintly as it synced with her Ember Celica. She aimed her fists forward, eyes gleaming with anticipation. "Let's get this show on the road!"

With a signal from Oscar, the training session began. Yang immediately dashed forward, testing the power of the gauntlets by delivering a few heavy punches to one of the dummies. Each blow sent shockwaves through the training room, leaving cracks in the target with every hit. The Bone Gauntlet's enhancement was clear—Yang's already devastating power was multiplied by the gauntlets' bone structure, which provided both added force and durability.

Weiss, on the other hand, was focused on mastering the new dust. As she swung Myrtenaster, a surge of fire and lightning burst from the blade, sending out a powerful wave of energy. The combined fire and lightning dust created an explosion of heat and electricity that ignited the air, leaving scorched marks on the walls of the training room. The dust seemed to work in unison, creating a dynamic and versatile element that Weiss could use for various attacks. She smiled, impressed with the results.

Blake tested her Ice Dagger, swiftly slashing through the air. The blade created a fine mist of cold, and with every strike, a burst of ice shot out, freezing anything in its path. She quickly adapted to the dagger's weight and flow, her agility enhancing the effectiveness of the weapon. "This is...perfect," she muttered to herself, executing rapid strikes against a robot target, freezing parts of it mid-motion.

Ruby, eager to join in, jumped in front of a target, spinning and slashing her scythe, Crescent Rose. "My turn!" she cheered, swinging her weapon with precision. While her usual speed and agility were a key asset, now her attacks felt more refined and impactful. The power of her swings seemed to carry more weight than before, and she felt the familiar rush of exhilaration as her scythe sliced through the targets.

Oscar observed from the sidelines, carefully watching the results. It was clear that each of them was already starting to adapt to their new gear and abilities. But he couldn't help but notice the small, lingering feeling of unease at the back of his mind. Was this the right move? Should he have been more transparent with them about the origins of their new weapons? It was too late to turn back now.

"Alright, let's see what you can do, Ruby!" Yang called out with a grin, already testing the limits of her own new gear.

Oscar walked up to her side, offering a faint smile. "I think they'll be alright. They're all strong. It's just going to take some getting used to."

"Yeah, but they're totally going to break something," Yang said with a laugh, her voice filled with excitement as she continued her testing.

As the team continued to practice, Oscar couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. Despite the secrets he was hiding, Team ROWBY was coming together more than ever. They were growing stronger, both individually and as a team. But the question still lingered: how long could he keep his own secrets from them? And would it change the way they viewed him once the truth came out?

For now, though, he focused on the present—on the successes and challenges of this training session. The future could wait.

Oscar then opened his System menu, it was about time he picked a new class and he picked a new sub class

Ding!

[New Class Unlocked: Rogue]

Ding!

[New skill unlocked: Shadow Arm: this skill created arms made of shadow that only the host can see, it can grab and attack anything to anyone, there is no limit to how many arms can be created at time, it can used as shiekd and does shadow damages]

Oscar then tapped the skill tee again, as he picked specific skill of the Rouge class.

Ding!

[New skill Unlocked: Shadows travel: it allows the host to travel to the shadow]

[Current Skill poinss left: 600]

[Current class: Main: Hybrid, Sub Class: Rogue, Clerick]

Oscar's eyes scanned the new notifications on his system menu as he reviewed the new additions. The idea of adding the Rogue class had been lingering in his mind for a while, and now that it was unlocked, he felt a sense of satisfaction. He couldn't help but smirk at the descriptions of the new skills. They were perfect for someone like him, someone who thrived on stealth and adaptability.

"Shadow Arm and Shadow Travel," he muttered to himself, testing the names on his tongue. "This could make things... interesting."

He closed his eyes for a moment and activated [Shadow Arm] for the first time. Instantly, dark, translucent arms sprouted from the ground around him, each one flexible and moving in synchronization with his thoughts. They were eerie yet fascinating, their smoky appearance blending seamlessly with the dim lighting of the training room. One arm lifted a nearby training dummy effortlessly, another flicked it aside like it weighed nothing.

"This is going to be useful," Oscar thought as he tested the strength and speed of the arms. He even tried forming a shield, layering several arms together into a solid, impenetrable wall of shadow. It felt sturdy, as though it could absorb some serious damage.

Ding!

[Shadow Arm Level 2 → 3]

The system message popped up, and Oscar grinned. "It levels up fast, too," he said, already planning how to maximize its potential.

Next, he activated [Shadow Travel]. The moment he stepped into a shadow, his body melted into it like a drop of ink in water. For a brief second, he felt like he was floating in a void, surrounded by darkness. Then, in an instant, he reappeared in the shadow of a nearby pillar.

"This is insane," he whispered to himself, his heart racing from the thrill of teleporting through shadows. He tested it a few more times, traveling between different shadows in the room. The skill was smooth, seamless, and incredibly efficient.

Ding!

[Shadow Travel Level 1 → 2]

Oscar checked his remaining skill points. "Still 600 left. I could unlock a few more rogue abilities... but let's save them for now."

Satisfied with his new skills, Oscar glanced back at Team ROWBY, who were still immersed in their training. None of them had noticed what he was up to, which suited him just fine. These new abilities were his ace in the hole, a set of tricks he could use if things ever went south.

He leaned against the wall, watching the team. "Rogue and Cleric," he thought with a chuckle. "Talk about an odd combination. But maybe that's what makes it work. A mix of light and shadow... like me."

Oscar closed his system menu, a confident smile on his face. Whatever challenges lay ahead, he was ready to face them—shadows and all.

Ding!

[Skill has been upgraded do to the unlock of the Rogue class, Skill Stealth has been Updated, new name and description has been given, would host like to say]

Oscar raised an eyebrow as the notification appeared before him. He tapped the system prompt, curious about the update.

Ding!

[Skill Stealth → Shadow Veil: This upgraded skill allows the host to become completely invisible while in shadows or dimly lit areas. The host's presence is undetectable by sound, sight, or most detection methods. While active, the host can mask their aura and even manipulate the shadows around them for limited camouflage in brighter environments. Duration and effectiveness increase with skill level.]

Oscar grinned, impressed by the significant upgrade. "Now this is what I call an upgrade," he muttered to himself. He immediately activated [Shadow Veil] to test it out.

His body vanished into the surrounding shadows, becoming one with the dimly lit corner of the training room. He looked down at his hands—or rather, where his hands should be—but saw nothing. Even the faint sound of his breathing seemed to be muted. He moved quietly, testing his ability to remain undetected.

To his surprise, Ruby, who had surprisingly sharp senses, didn't even glance in his direction. Weiss, who was busy adjusting her new dust cartridges, didn't notice either.

Oscar deactivated the skill and smirked. "Perfect," he thought. "Now I'm officially a ghost in the shadows."

He tapped the system menu one last time to check the synergy between [Shadow Veil], [Shadow Arm], and [Shadow Travel]. With these combined, his mobility, stealth, and combat potential had reached a whole new level.

Ding!

[Synergy Bonus Activated: Shadow Vanguard]

[When using Shadow Veil, Shadow Arm, and Shadow Travel in succession, gain a 10% increase in shadow damage and stealth duration.]

Oscar couldn't help but let out a small laugh. "Alright, system, I take it back. You're not all bad."

He closed the menu and crossed his arms, watching the others train with their new weapons. He felt confident—no, ready—to handle whatever came next.

Oscar then though to him self. "Let's see, as far as Beacon knows my Semblance is Enegry and Particul Minuplation, so I can't shows this power, but what about him".

Later that night, Oscar was son a rooftop in vale, he was back to being the white mask, plus what was the odd that Penny would find.

What Oscar didn't know, Penny after that one kiss he gave her to escape, became obsessed with his Vigilante self and now the robot girl was on the hunt but in a crazy way.

Oscar crouched low on the rooftop, his White Mask persona fully in place. The cool night breeze swept through the city of Vale, carrying with it the faint sounds of nightlife. He scanned the streets below, his eyes sharp and focused beneath the mask. He'd been patrolling for hours, ensuring no Grimm—or worse—criminals threatened the city tonight.

As he jumped to another rooftop, he thought to himself, "I need to keep my abilities low-key. White Mask has to stick to energy and particle manipulation, or else questions will start piling up. But I can't ignore the usefulness of these new skills..."

He activated [Shadow Veil], melting into the darkness as his body became one with the shadows around him. Moving unseen, he silently leaped across another gap, feeling a surge of satisfaction at how effortlessly his new skills worked. His movements were like a whisper in the night—completely undetectable.

Unbeknownst to Oscar, a certain orange-haired girl had been watching him from afar. Penny Polendina crouched behind a nearby water tower, her emerald-green eyes glowing faintly in the dark. After their last encounter—when he had kissed her to escape—she couldn't stop thinking about him. Her logical mind couldn't explain the fluttering sensation in her circuits whenever she thought about White Mask.

"This time, I'll catch him," she whispered to herself with an unsettling grin, her voice tinged with excitement. "I'll finally understand why my systems act strange around him."

Oscar landed gracefully on a lower rooftop, still unaware of his robotic admirer. He was about to head toward the marketplace district when he felt a faint disturbance. His instincts, sharpened by his skills and training, warned him that something—or someone—was watching.

He activated [Shadow Arms], summoning a few tendrils of shadow to scan his surroundings discreetly. The arms extended silently, brushing against the shadows of nearby objects. At first, nothing seemed out of place, but then...

CLANG!

A slight noise echoed from a metal structure nearby. Oscar's head snapped in the direction of the sound. He narrowed his eyes beneath his mask. "Who's there?" he muttered, his voice low and cautious.

From behind the water tower, Penny peeked out, her curiosity getting the better of her. But when she saw him staring in her direction, she gasped and quickly ducked back into hiding, pressing her back against the cold metal. Her hands clutched her chest as if trying to calm the erratic rhythm of her artificial heart.

Oscar frowned. He hadn't seen anyone directly, but he knew something—or someone—was definitely nearby. "Could be a local trying to get a glimpse, or... something worse."

He deactivated [Shadow Veil] momentarily, making himself visible again. "If you're there, come out," he called out, his voice firm but not threatening. "I won't hurt you... unless you give me a reason to."

Penny, still hidden, hesitated. Her programming urged caution, but her growing obsession with White Mask overrode her logic. She stepped out from behind the water tower, her glowing eyes locking onto him.

"Hello there!" she said cheerfully, as if greeting an old friend.

Oscar blinked in surprise. The girl looked vaguely familiar, but he couldn't quite place her. "Who are you?" he asked, keeping his voice steady and calm.

Penny smiled innocently, but her tone was anything but. "I'm just a curious girl who's been looking for you, White Mask."

Oscar's eyes widened slightly beneath his mask. "Oh no. It's her."
