Chapter 1 - The Last Remaining

A hoarse voice rang into his mind during his peaceful night

'You will finally come back to where you belong... Your destiny can finally be completed'

'My destiny is what I decide it to be, not a predetermined factor'

'HAHAHA'

There were images inside the boys head, rampart inside his mind of people he hasn't ever seen, a huge tree appeared in his mind as if it was trying to comfort him back but the nightmare persisted as it devours his peaceful sleep forcing a wake up call

"Argh!"

The boy violently threw himself off of the bed and heard a loud thud sound. A shattered and cracked clock's gears stopped turning, smashed into the desk which caused him to finally realise what he has done and the much scolding he will receive from the Director after he finds out.

'OH SHI-'

Hurriedly the boy starts picking up the pieces which fell off the gears and stuffing them into his pockets before anyone else sees the crime he has committed. If the orphanage director found out about the fact this expensive piece of equipment was broken he definitely wouldn't be too happy with him.

"What was that bang I heard"

The director wearing his formal attire intrudes into the room with his cane with a confused expression at the mysterious sound which came from his room, the director partially knew that something might have happened due to the specific sound of the object that fell.

"Nothing Sir!"

The boy was nimble and sly as the director himself couldn't see any evidence pointing towards a loud sound coming from this room.

"If I hear any more ruckus coming from this room, I will personally make sure you get what's deserved"

The director then walked away slamming the door behind him which was heard throughout the entire apartment, the boy sighed with relief at the revelation of the Director vanishing back into his quarters, he then opened the window letting the minimal sunlight blocked by various other buildings to seep through into his room highlighting the dust and dirt in his room which hasn't been maintained to proper standards.

'I can clean all this dirt later, I gonna get beat if I'm late again'

He packs his bag and dresses up in his school uniform at a rapid pace then scaling down the stairs towards the kitchen to make his lunch, Everyone has already left by now due to there being minutes between school starting and getting a later beating from the Director.

He makes a basic sandwich with butter and minimal meat. The economy has driven the meat prices beyond the average rate two weeks ago as the main production plant got overrun and destroyed beyond repair.

*whoosh*

The wind surged into the building as he opened the door and jumped off the front porch onto the main street, instantly started running towards the "school sign" indicating which way he should go, there is only one school for this community so needing extra directions is unnecessary, running past the sign.

He waits for the military convoy to pass by while doing their routine patrol around the neighbourhood, Soldiers look down on him with a serious demeanour while they drive past.

'The patrols seem to be increasing by the day, I wonder is because is the flood of people trying to get in from the outside or the increasing amount of "shadows" being spotted locally, Hopefully, I don't get put into the patrol unit once Im forced to enlist'

The boy looks down as the thought of being a patrol officer lingers in his mind throughout the journey, Crossing the road which was beside the sign, a three-way intersection splits towards the school, market and lastly, the military building towering over the apartments below, Turning left he makes his way towards the school district which involves the Junior School (JS) and beside it is the Military School (MS)

*Ding, Ding*

The school bell rings and there are two options left, attempt a very classic cliche of jumping through the opened window at the side of class or go through the main entrance and be instantly caught and called in as late, With the choice being obvious he runs full speed towards the low wall to bounce over the surface through the window.

*whoosh*

The class stares at the student as he jumps through the window crashing into the table and falling over, laughter is heard throughout loudly in the class until the teacher enters, then silence envelops the entire classroom while the clown student is found sitting as if nothing had happened at all.

"Alright class, Get ready and stand up"

The students all synced and stood up perfectly within a mere second as this is routine for most of their lives to this point it was an instinct almost to just all stand up together.

"Alright let me begin-"

The teacher calls out the students' names one by one to verify that everyone has attended and so that his contractor can pay him his wage, All business works on contracts and no one has guaranteed employment for multiple years, The money system used here is a ration system compared to the typical gold or cash-based systems used from past generations. There are not enough resources to afford such valuable metal being used for mere scrap paper when using food rations has the same effect, Work and be full.

"And finally a special guest who decided to be on time for the first time, Yuto"

'Public ridicule won't work on likes of me, I don't care what others think about me anyway, They are all just mere students after all while my dreams outweigh their entire existence and beyond'

His ego is at an all-time high knowing he doesn't give a single thought about what others think, he just smirks quietly in his chair to try and make people give in to boredom and stop laughing at him, The class settles down and the teacher continues talking about the various things they will study which Yuto does not care at all.

"NOW, since you are all paying attention, Let's learn about why you are here"

The entire class stares up at the teacher in disbelief at the fact that for the first time, they will understand the origins of why they are being kept inside this closely knitted community, within walls and boundaries and why they all are being kept inside the walls.
