Chapter 1 - RTS Genius

Everybody has their own interests, things that keep them entertained, engaged, and happy. My interest just so happened to be games. More specifically, RTS also know as real time strategy.

"Infantry!! Form a square shield wall around the archers!! Spearman!! Nail yourself down and prepare for the enemy's calvary!!! Our calvery!! Prepare to flank from the east!!"

My men complied with my orders and prepared for battle, the odds were stacked against us however. Over 1500 trained and battle hardened men opposed our own 500. However just because they had a superior number of soldiers, didn't mean they were going to win. With superior tactis, patience, and willpower we will win this battle.

My men were now lined up in their formations, their battle cry's and shield taunts echoed the battle field along with the sounds of clanging metal and reigning horses.

"Men!!! Hold steady and brace for combat!!! Calvery stay at the ready!!"

The men complied to my commands expertly.

Here they come!!!

The thundering sounds of hooves and battlecrys were heard from even the large distance away, the thundering spirit of that large of an army with well equipped and trained soldiers could make almost anyone give up hope and retreat.

But not me. My men will survive and I will remain victorious.

"Hold men!!!"

The calvery had already arrived and were charging towards my men.

"Archers!!! Fire at will!!"

The archers, who were waiting diligently at my command, began to shoot their longbows with freakish precision, taking down many of the calvery that was rushing at us. The archers released so many arrows that a shadow was created and loomed over the battlefield with a heavy feeling of both death, and victory.

"Spearman now!!!"

With a order the spearman hunkered down and braced themselves and their warpikes for the calvery who were now too close to change course.

The calvery hit my army's spear/shieldwall with a thunderous spirit, many of their horses and men went flying and death followed those who first hit the wall. The rest of the calvery were caught in a state of confusion and chaos that my men took advantage of by eliminating and enemy that stepped close.

"Here they come again!!!"

The second wave of cavalry came much more slowly and cautiously, they were not going to fall for the same trick twice.

"Hold men, hold!!!"

The calvery was slowly dwindling in numbers but the sheer size of the army was still an issue at hand. If we can make it through their calvery we will win!!!

"Calvery, now!!! Flank!!!" The calvery who were waiting nearby rushed into the enemy with vigor and might. Their galloping and warcrys brought the hopes of my men up, their hearts and minds were steeled from the sight of the calvery which gave us another advantage.

"Infantry!! 4 ranks!! Divide and wait for my command!!"

With the defeat of the enemy's calvery, the enemy's infantry and archers marched forward intensely.

"Archers!! Take to the hill!!"

The archers at my command ran towards the same hill I was on which had allowed me to look over looking the entire battle.

"Fire at will!! Infantry, form a Shield Testudo!!"

The archers acted swiftly and shot many arrows at the advancing enemy soldiers, some died but their own shield wall kept them from total annihilation. They had their own archers however who shot arrows towards our own soldiers, who had no trouble protecting themselves with their shields.

Wait…. Wait…..Now!!

The advancing army only got closer and closer with each second before they inevitably charged forwards with their archers staying back for support.

"Calvery!!! Flank from behind!!! Ranks one and 4 surround them!!!"

My men acted as soon as I gave my order. At this point on I could only laugh. They were surrounded by my troops and we had entirely began to annihilate what remained of their 1500 men.

"Crush them!!! Charge!!"

With a final order I, myself, joined ranks with my calvery and began to kill any enemy solider I saw. With my spear, sword, shield, and insanely fast horse and well thought battle tactics, we easily defeated the enemy.

[Victory!! The enemy army is defeated!!]

Your casualties: 79 killed or seriously wounded(130 injured)

Enemy casualties: 1370 killed or seriously injured(130 wounded)

"LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO NOOB WALL FOR THE WIN!!!!!!"

Anyways yeah, you can say I like to play RTS games.

The air after an intense sim-battle was always an empty feeling. Especially when I roleplayed too.

Roleplaying is a little embarrassing but fuck do I love it.

My thoughts were exactly how I felt. I loved roleplaying, my second favorite game genre was RPGs. Yeah it was a little nerdy and embarrassing, but if you're home alone and bored, why not!!? At least thats what I think.

"I wish I was a real commander like that…"

I really, really wished. The thought of being a battle hardened warrior with thousands of troops under my command, taking over cities, becoming a king, and defeating armies with tactics that learned I learned from several years of warfare. It was just a dream but it was one I dreamt everyday.

I guess I should do homework now…..

[Several Hours Later]

No homework got done this day as I continued to pour hour after hour into my favorite RTS game.

"I love you Mount and Blade!!!"

I internally sighed at that moment. Man im a fucking loser, theres no way I said I love you to a game.

But it is true. I do love this game.

How long has it been? Taking a look at the clock showed me how late it was.

3:43

"Fuck I better get some sleep" I said to myself.

Saddened by my time restraints I turned off my computer and took at my room before I fell asleep.

It looks so nerdy.

It looked very nerdy. Game and band posters hung on the wall while figurines of fantasy characters , replica swords, shields, and replica spears sat on the walls and shelves of my room. My bed was a simple queen bed with simple black sheets.

I sat down on my bed before taking a big breathe.

Im so lost.

Life was boring and dull, fantsy worlds and immersive games occupied my mind always. Its what I lived for, this life was just not it. Always working or stuff with little time for anything else. No friends or girlfriends or anything like that.

Well at least I had games.

My one thought before falling asleep was the one I had every night.

Please. Don't let me wake up here.

After that. Sleep soon came.
