Chapter 12 - Reynard the City Boy(2)

Almost everyone we asked gave us similar answers.

"Even if I did know why would I tell a Drow and Barbie like you…."

"Go back to the mountains you dumb brute!!"

"Go fuckin' fuck off!!"

"I don't know no directions."

We even asked a kid after getting frustrated with the other locals.

"My mom said I shouldn't talk to your people!!!"

Ah so this is what racism is like.

It wasn't even like the hidden racism back on Earth where people at least tried a little bit to not seem racist. But the people here were just openly racist, and are in fact proud of not helping another race.

Just my luck to get this shithole and not a typical generic 'slay the demon lord' slow life isekai.

Oh well, I was a gamer afterall and I commenly enjoyed to play games on the hardest difficulty. A setback like this was nothing to me.

But I did use guides pretty frequently….

Even in all my gaming wisdom there was always a few times where I got stuck or soft locked myself in games. Usually though guides and walkthroughs came in to save my day but I couldn't just look up something here. I had to do it the old fashion way. Persistentance.

"We don't serve your kind!!"

"Sorry but I cant be seen talking to someone like you…"

"Stupid Barbarians always asking for help.."

Until finally we found someone who would actually help us. Or so I thought.

"Jus' 'cause Im blind don't mean I can't smell that Barbarian stench off you boy!!!"

Yeah… I quickly lost my drive once again and we were back to square one. Just wandering until we found it.

"Hey look! Guards!" Nephiah said before pointing to two armored figures that stuck out in the crowd.

"Finally…" I said.

We made our way through the busy streets to ask the guards for directions.

"-Yes, yes!! That's what I think. That damn girl will be the end of me…" A guard with a impressively nice mustache said.

"If I could go back in time I wouldn't marry my damn wife of mine either. She always complains when I go out for a drink or a ride. I mean come on!! Damn bitch won't even let me have fun." The other guard said.

So people even feel like this here.

"Ahem, excuse me, guards. Would you happen to know where the Identification Hall is?" I said politely to the guards.

"Pfft!!! Hahahaha!!!"

The two guards looked at eachother before hysterically laughing in my face.

Even the damn guards!?

This simple wuest was starting to get on my nerves.

"Hahah!! Ohhh my stomach." The guard with a mustache said.

"Hahah!! Oh…. Oh!…. Phew!! Ha! That was a funny one. I can't believe a Barbarian like you talks like that." The guard without a mustache said.

"Haha! Ahem. What is it Barbarian?" The mustached guard said finally putting on a professional attitude.

"Right… I just wanted to know the way to the Identification Hall." I said very plainly.

"Oh yes, it's in the guild district of course. Its about two streets down that way." The guard said before pointing his armored finger.

"Right. Thank you." I said politely before heading in the direction that he pointed me towards.

"The men at the garrison aint gonna believe this!!" One of the guards said as we walked away.

Assholes.

"I have to say, Reynard, I've never really had an experience like this. Is this how all Barbrians are treated or is this just a case of bad luck." Nephiah said while walking next to me.

"I can't say I've never really had any interactions outside my tribe but I hope its just a case of bad luck…" I answered.

"Oh! Here we are. The guild district." Nephiah said.

Whoa!

The guild district was surprisingly busy in the orange evening with many people, armored and unarmored, of many different races. Elves! Humans! Dwarfs! Beastmen! Catgirls hell yeah!! Even a few orc-looking people too.

Compared to the other human packed areas, this place seemed a lot more tolerant of "our kind".

It only took me a couple of seconds standing in the Guild District's plaza before I found my destination.

[Dragonfell Identification Hall]

I guess this town is called Dragonfell? Do dragons exist here?

"Oh we're in Dragonfell aren't we? Sadly it seems we're quite a bit away from the capital city." Nephiah informed me.

"Right, is that so?" I said to Nephiah.

The Identification Hall was a large stone building that was covered with many, many windows. I guess it made sense if they didn't have electricity in this world.

Still the building was a very impressive building even by my standards.

"I'll be in there for the time being. What will you be doing?" I asked Nephiah next to me. Its not like she had to get a new tablet as well.

"I'm not to sure. What do you suggest?" Nephiah asked.

"Hmm…" I thought for a second before making a decision, "Look for an inn that would take a Barbarian and a Drow. I'm sure it will take a while but if you give up or find an inn. Ill meet you outside here. Or in here if I'm not finished." I said to Nephiah.

"Right, I'll be doing that then Reynard. If I don't find anything by nightfall I'll come back here." Nephiah said while crossing her arms.

"Sounds good." I said plainly.

Nephiah waved me goodbye and went her own way.

I sure hope she finds an Inn, Id really hate if I had to sleep in an alley tonight or something .

I hope I didn't jinx myself.

I walked inside the large building and took a look at the inside. The building was large from the outside but the inside looked much smaller. If I had to guess than I assume most of it was used for the workers work space.

The hall's floor, stairs, and shelves were made of a dark wood that complimented the beige walls. It wasn't fancy and had a very quiet and sad atmosphere. Kinda like library.

"Hello welcome to the Identification Guild! What can I help you with today!?" A pretty young black haired receptionist greeted me excitedly. Even though it wasn't really her true emotions it was nice to see a friendly person.

"Hello, I wanted to…. Register for a Identification Tablet?" I said not really sure of the terminology.

"Okay! Do you need a permanent tablet or a temporary one?" The receptionist asked politely.

"Whats the difference?" I replied back.

"The temporary one last for 30 days and is valid for only in the Kingdom of Eldonia, the permanent one is valid for most kingdoms in the realm and has no expiration date!" The receptionist said very politely.

"The permanent one then." I said.

"Right that will be 15 gold!"

Fuck thats so much money.
