Chapter 55 - Kate's New Home

As Kai drove to the police station with Kate, she sat quietly in the passenger seat, taking in the sights and sounds of the city. Kai glanced over at her, noticing her curious expression. "Hey, little Kate, are you hungry? Have you eaten something at the hospital?"

Kate nodded her head and replied, "Yes, I have eaten at the hospital."

Kai thought to himself, "It's only been a few hours since Kate was in the hospital, and now I'm driving her to the police station to report a case for adoption."

Kate spoke up, interrupting Kai's thoughts. "Brother Kai, where are we going?"

Kai replied, "We're going to the police station."

Kate's eyes widened with concern. "Why? Have we done something bad? Have I done something bad? Am I a bad girl?"

Kai laughed and then turned serious. "No, Kate, you're not a bad girl. You're a sweet girl."

Kate nodded, seeming to accept Kai's reassurance. Kai continued, "We need to go to the police station to do some procedures so you can live with me at my home."

Kai picked up his phone and dialed a number. "Hey, Mom."

His mother's voice came through the phone. "Hi, Kai. How is it?"

Kai explained the situation to his mother, telling her about finding Kate, taking her to the hospital, and his decision to adopt her.

His mother listened attentively, asking questions and making supportive noises. Finally, she said, "Okay, Kai. We can adopt her. I'll support you."

Kai smiled, feeling a sense of relief and gratitude. "Thanks, Mom. I'll bring her home soon."

As Kai ended the call, Kate looked up at him with curious eyes. "Who was that, Brother Kai?"

Kai smiled. "That was my mom. She's excited to meet you."

Kate's face lit up with a bright smile. "Really?"

Kai nodded. "Really."

As they arrived at the police station, Kai and Kate stepped out of the car. The exterior of the building was a nondescript, beige-colored structure with a sign that read "Police Station" in bold letters.

As they entered the police station, they were immediately struck by the bustling atmosphere. The interior was a hive of activity, with officers and civilians milling about. The air was thick with the smell of stale coffee and worn furniture.

Kai and Kate made their way to the front desk, where a harried-looking officer greeted them.

"Can I help you?" the officer asked, eyeing Kate curiously.

Kai explained the situation, and the officer nodded sympathetically. "Okay, let's get a statement from you. Please, follow me."

The officer led them to a small, cramped room with a single table and two chairs. Kai and Kate sat down, and the officer began to take Kai's statement.

As Kai recounted the events leading up to their arrival at the police station, Kate listened intently, her eyes wide with wonder. The officer scribbled notes on a pad of paper, asking occasional questions to clarify certain points.

Once the statement was complete, the officer nodded thoughtfully. "Okay, thank you, Kai. We'll need to contact social services and get the ball rolling on the adoption process."

As Kai and Kate sat in the police station, the officer picked up his phone and called the social department. After they waited for an hour, a social worker came in.

She was a middle-aged woman with a kind face and a warm smile. She wore a pair of glasses perched on the end of her nose and had a few streaks of gray in her hair. She looked at Kai and then at Kate, taking in their appearance.

As she approached them, Kai could sense her demeanor change. She seemed to feel a strange energy emanating from him, and her eyes narrowed slightly as she tried to understand it. Kai smiled warmly at her, trying to put her at ease.

"Hi, I'm Missus Lerato Tebo," she said, her voice firm but friendly. Kai stood up to greet her, and Kate followed suit.

Kai explained the situation to Missus Tebo, telling her about finding Kate and his decision to adopt her. Missus Tebo listened attentively, her expression growing more serious as Kai spoke.

When Kai finished, Missus Tebo nodded thoughtfully. "Okay, it's fine. We'll need to sign some papers and do a home assessment. I'll also need to speak with your parent."

Kai nodded, relieved that the process was moving forward. "I can take you to my home now, and we can talk to my mom."

Missus Tebo agreed, and they left the police station. As they walked out, Kate got into Kai's car, and Missus Tebo's eyes widened in surprise.

"Wow, you drive a Mercedes Benz," she said to herself. "This boy must be from a wealthy family."

As they drove to Oakwood Hills, Missus Tebo couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity. Who was this boy, and how did he come to live in such an affluent neighborhood?

When they arrived at Kai's mansion, Missus Tebo's eyes grew even wider. "This is incredible," she said to herself. "I've never seen a house like this before."

As they got out of the car, Kai greeted the security guards, and they opened the gate. Kai led Missus Tebo into the house, where his mom was waiting.

"Mom, I'm home," Kai said, still wearing his school clothes. "Mom, this is Missus Lerato Tebo. She's the social worker who's going to help us with the adoption."

Kai's mom, Sophia, smiled warmly at Missus Tebo. "Hi, nice to meet you. Please, come in."

Missus Tebo smiled back, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. Despite the initial strangeness she had felt around Kai, she was starting to feel more at ease.

"Thank you, Mrs. Sophia," Missus Tebo said. "I appreciate your hospitality. I'm sure we have a lot to discuss regarding the adoption."

As Kai was telling his mom, "Mom, I'm going to change," his mom replied, "It's okay, Kai."

The social worker, Missus Tebo, explained the procedures they needed to follow, including an investigation into Kate's case since she had run away from the orphanage.

Kai went to his room to change. As he sat down, he thought to himself, "I need to get to the bottom of this. This process must go quickly. I need someone powerful on my side to help with this case."

He knew he couldn't avoid the law, but he wanted to find a way to expedite the process. After some contemplation, Kai decided to contact Mister Reginald, a powerful and influential person he knew.

Kai picked up his phone and called Mister Reginald. "Hey, Mister Reginald," Kai said.

Mister Reginald replied, "Hey, Kai! How are you? When are you coming again to train with me?"

Kai apologized for forgetting about their training sessions, explaining that he had been busy with recent events.

Mister Reginald assured Kai that it was okay and asked him to let him know when he was ready to resume training.

Kai then asked Mister Reginald for a favor. "Mister Reginald, I need something from you. I want to adopt a little girl, but the process is going to take too long. Can you help me make it go faster?"

Mister Reginald agreed to help, saying, "Leave it to me. I'll hire a great lawyer to handle the case and talk to the orphanage. We'll get it done swiftly."

Kai thanked Mister Reginald, feeling relieved that things were going to move forward.

After ending the call, Kai got dressed in some nice clothes and went downstairs. He saw Missus Tebo assessing the house and asking his mom, Sophia, questions about their daily routines.

Kate was looking around the house in awe, and Sophia couldn't help but fall in love with the little girl. As they talked about Kate, Sophia's eyes lit up with warmth and affection.

Kate, still exploring the house, was astonished by its grandeur. She had never seen such a big and beautiful house before. As she walked around with Kai earlier, she had been amazed by the spacious rooms and elegant decor.

As Kai came out of his room, he saw Kate looking around the house in wonder. The social worker, Missus Tebo, was assessing the living room, taking notes and asking Sophia questions.

After they signed the papers, Missus Tebo said, "I think it's safe for Kate to stay here temporarily. We'll handle the case with the police and officers."

As they finished the formalities, Sophia introduced herself to Kate. "Hello, little Kate. I'm Sophia, Kai's mom. You'll be staying with us from now on."

Kate nodded, looking around the house again. "Am I really going to stay here?" she asked, her eyes wide with excitement.

Sophia smiled. "Yes, dear. You'll be part of our family now."

Just then, Missus Tebo suddenly clutched her head. "Oh no, I think I'm getting a headache..." She swayed, and Kai rushed to catch her.

"Be careful, Missus Tebo!" Kai exclaimed, holding her steady. "I know some basic medical procedures. Let me help you."

But as Kai looked into Missus Tebo's eyes, he saw something that made his heart skip a beat...
