Chapter 54 - A Fresh Start

Kai looked at his father, shock etched on his face. The fluorescent lights overhead cast a pale glow over the sterile hospital environment, and the beeping of machines provided a steady background hum. "Get into your company?" he repeated, his voice barely above a whisper. "Father, please explain how I do that."

His father smiled, a hint of amusement in his eyes. The scent of disinfectant wafted through the air as he shifted in his bed. "It will be easy for you to get into the company, son," he said. "But first, you must pass some trials. I must test your powers and your possibilities to see if you're worthy of taking over the company."

Kai's eyes narrowed, determination burning within him. He felt a surge of adrenaline as he leaned forward, his hands clenched into fists. "I'm ready, Father," he said.

His father nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. The soft beep of the heart monitor provided a steady rhythm as he spoke. "In the office where I am, there's a place where you can open a locked door. The pen made of lead that John gave you is the key to opening that door. No one has been able to open it, but you, as my son, possess the DNA to unlock it."

Kai's eyes widened in understanding. The cool air of the hospital room seemed to vibrate with anticipation as he leaned forward. "Yes, Father, I'll do it," he said.

He paused, a question burning in his mind. The soft rustle of the hospital sheets provided a soothing background noise as he spoke. "Father, I want to ask you something," he said.

His father nodded, encouraging him to continue. "Go on, son."

Kai took a deep breath, the scent of antiseptic filling his lungs. "Why does the book take energy from you? Every time you open it..."

His father's expression turned serious, his eyes clouding over with memories. The soft hum of the machines seemed to grow louder as he spoke. "Our family has great powers, son," he said. "Each and every one of us gets a book, a book that holds the secrets of our family's powers. When we open the book, the powers get distributed, and the book takes energy from us."

Kai's eyes widened in understanding. The cool air of the hospital room seemed to vibrate with excitement as he leaned forward. "I see," he said. "So the first patriarch who wrote the book embedded it with magic from his own aura."

His father nodded, a hint of pride in his eyes. The soft beep of the heart monitor provided a steady rhythm as he spoke. "That's right, son. He knew how great it was to possess powers, and he wanted to ensure that those who came after him would have to prove themselves worthy."

Kai's mind reeled as he processed the information. He looked at his father, a sense of gratitude washing over him. "Thank you, Father," he said. "I understand now."

He paused, remembering something else. The soft rustle of the hospital sheets provided a soothing background noise as he spoke. "Father, something happened to Mum too," he said.

His father's expression turned concerned. "What happened? Is she okay?" he asked.

Kai reassured him. "She's okay, Father. I saved her from a burning building, and I took care of the people."

His father's face broke into a wide smile. "I'm proud of you, son," he said.

Kai said, "I also saved a girl using my medical skills and my healing powers."

His father's eyes sparkled with pride. "Great job, boy! Great job! I see that you're going further and further."

Kai's expression turned serious. "Father, there are still so many things I don't understand," he said. "Last time I flew, I couldn't get down."

His father chuckled, a faraway look in his eyes. The soft hum of the machines seemed to grow louder as he spoke. "That happened to me too, son," he said. "It's all part of the learning process."

After Kai listened to his father's words, he felt a sense of determination wash over him. He took a deep breath and said, "Dad, there's something else I want to talk to you about. There's a girl I saved, her name is Kate. I'm struggling to know what to do with her."

Kai's father looked at him with interest, encouraging him to continue. Kai hesitated for a moment before speaking. "I saw in her mind, and I also heard her thoughts. She's struggling with some mental issues, traumatic things that happened to her at an orphanage. She ran away, and I don't want to leave her in the hands of people who might harm her."

His father nodded understandingly. "Don't worry, son. I trust you to make every decision that's right."

Kai felt a sense of relief wash over him. "Father, can we adopt her?" he asked.

His father looked at him seriously. "Kai, do you really want to do that?"

Kai nodded eagerly. "Yes, I want to."

His father smiled. "Okay, Kai. Since you want to help her, we can take care of her. Adopting people is a great thing. Let's take care of her."

Kai's face lit up with excitement. "No, she'll be like my little sister. I'll take care of her."

His father nodded. "Okay, son. That's alright. Do what you must do."

Kai nodded, feeling a sense of determination. "I'll take her to the police station and report the case. I'll make sure she gets the help she needs. And I'll tell Mom about it too."

His father smiled. "Okay, son. Send greetings to your mom."

Kai nodded. "Okay, Dad."

His father looked at him seriously. "Son, since you're so strong now, you can pursue businesses and other things while you're in school. You have a car, and you're a prominent student. Some friends will be jealous, some will be glad for you, and some will follow you. But always remember love and kindness."

Kai looked at his father, his eyes locked on his. "Yes, Father. I will always do that."

His father nodded, a smile on his face. "Okay, son. Now that we've talked, I'm glad for you."

Kai nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude. "Yes, Father."

As Kai stood up to leave, his father called out to him. "Take it slow, Kai. Don't rush into healing me. But I believe you can do it."

Kai nodded, smiling. "I will, Father. I'll be back to heal you."

With that, Kai left the room, feeling a sense of determination and purpose. He made his way to Kate's room, his heart filled with compassion and kindness.

As he entered Kate's room, she looked up at him, her eyes wide with fear."Brother Kai!" she screamed, her voice trembling.

Kai entered the room, and Kate's face lit up with a mix of emotions. "Hey, little one," he said softly. "Are you fine? Are the doctors treating you nicely?"

Kate's eyes sparkled with tears. "I thought you'd never come," she said, her voice trembling. "I thought you'd leave me." Kai's heart went out to her. "No, Kate," he said gently. "I wouldn't leave you. I'm going to take care of you."

Kate's face lit up with hope. "Really, brother Kai?" she asked, her voice filled with longing. Kai smiled. "Yes, Kate. I promise. You'll be my little sister, and I'll be your big brother."

As Kai looked at Kate, he saw the thoughts swirling in her mind. She was afraid of being hurt again, of being treated badly by someone she trusted. Kai's heart went out to her, and he knew he had to reassure her. "I'll take care of you, Kate," he said softly. "I'll give you everything you need. You're safe with me."

Kate's face lit up with a smile, and she handed Kai a small drawing she had made. "Thank you, brother Kai," she said, her voice filled with gratitude. As they left the hospital room, Kai felt a sense of purpose.

Kai said, "Let me go and get the doctors who checked you out. I will quickly go and look for them." Kate nodded, and Kai went out into the corridor. "I want to book Kai out," he said to the nurses and doctors. "We will quickly do the necessary checks and get her ready to go," they replied.

After a few minutes, the doctors and nurses came to Kate's room. "We're going to quickly get you off the machines and get you ready to go," they said. Kai nodded, and soon Kate was wheeled out of the room in a wheelchair.

As they reached the hospital entrance, Doctor Hemmingsworth approached them. "Kai, I'm glad to see you're leaving with Kate," he said. "Here's my business card. If you need anything, don't hesitate to call me." Kai took the card, feeling a sense of gratitude.

"Thank you, Doctor Hemmingsworth," he said. The doctor smiled. "You're welcome, Kai. And don't forget, you're always welcome to come back and help us out. We could use someone with your skills." Kai's eyes widened in surprise.

"But doctor, I haven't studied medicine yet," he said. The doctor chuckled. "You don't need to, Kai. You have a gift. And we could use someone with your compassion and empathy." Kai smiled, feeling a sense of purpose.

"I'll think about it, Doctor," he said. As they left the hospital, Kai felt a sense of excitement. He was going to take care of Kate, and he was going to make a difference in the world.
