Chapter 48 - Beyond Human Limits

As the police vans arrived, the sound of pouring rain filled the air. Vanessa and Greg, along with the kidnappers, felt suffocated by the intense situation. Three police vans pulled up, and officers knocked on the van door. "Police! Everybody, get out!"

The driver and two kidnappers emerged first, followed by Vanessa and Greg, who raised their hands in surrender. Kai stepped out last, calm and collected. A police officer approached him, asking, "Is this a kidnapping? Where's the girl?"

Kai replied, "She's my girlfriend. She's in the car over there, traumatized." The officer looked puzzled, wondering how Kai had managed to apprehend the kidnappers. "Sir, this is not a prank," Kai assured him. "I called you, and I'm the one who took control of the situation."

The officer looked around, noticing the guns scattered on the floor. "What about these guns?" he asked. Kai explained, "They threw them away because I had something on them." The officer's expression changed from skepticism to shock. "How did you...? This is unprecedented. I've never seen a civilian apprehend kidnappers like this."

As the officers began to process the scene, Kai continued to explain the situation. The police vans, with their distinctive South African markings, surrounded the area, and officers carefully collected evidence and took statements.

Officer Moremi, a no-nonsense man with a stern expression, approached Kai. "I'm Officer Moremi. Nice to meet you, young man."

Kai smiled politely. "Nice to meet you too, Officer Moremi."

Kai recounted the events of the night, leaving out no details. The kidnappers, still cowed, nodded in agreement, confessing to their crimes. However, they refused to elaborate, their eyes darting nervously towards Kai. It was clear they feared him more than the police.

Officer Moremi raised an eyebrow. "It seems we have a lot to unravel here. Can you go get your girlfriend, please? We'd like to hear her side of the story."

Kai nodded and walked over to the car. He knocked on the window, and Emily rolled it down. "You can come now, the police want to talk to you."

Emily stepped out of the car, looking shaken. "I'm Emily," she said, approaching Officer Moremi.

The officer nodded sympathetically. "Ma'am, can you tell us what happened here tonight?"

Emily hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. Kai smiled reassuringly, and she began to spin a tale that corroborated the kidnappers' confessions. However, she left out the more... improbable details.

Officer Moremi listened intently, his expression growing increasingly serious. When Emily finished, he nodded thoughtfully. "Thank you, ma'am. We'll take it from here."

As the police led the kidnappers away, Kai approached Officer Moremi. "Officer, one of them mentioned they're part of a drug ring. You might want to investigate that further."

Officer Moremi's eyes widened. "Are you serious, son? This could be a much bigger case than we initially thought."

Kai nodded confidently. "When you interrogate them further, you'll hear more about it. They were quite... forthcoming when I had them cornered."

Officer Moremi's expression turned thoughtful. "We'll be in touch, son. You've done an impressive job here tonight."

As the police vans drove away, Kai and Emily stood alone, the only sound the distant hum of the vans' engines. Kai turned to Emily, concern etched on his face. "Hey, Ems, are you okay? Are you fine?"

Emily nodded, a small smile on her lips. "Yes, I'm fine. Just a bit shaken and worried about you."

Kai's expression softened. "Worried about me?"

Emily's eyes locked onto his. "Yes, worried about you. What you did was dangerous. How could you go with those scary men into that van and leave me in the car? What if something happened to me?"

Kai's voice was reassuring. "No, Ems, nothing would have happened to you. You were safe, and that car has more security features than you know."

Emily's expression eased, and she nodded. "Okay, as long as you're safe and don't do anything like that again."

Kai smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You're safe with me, Ems."

They got into the car, and Kai started the engine. "What a night it's been. It's already 10 o'clock. If you want to stay home tomorrow, you can."

Emily nodded, her eyes still haunted. "I think I'll stay home. I need to process everything that happened."

Kai's hand reached out, and he gently brushed a strand of hair behind Emily's ear. His fingers trailed down her cheek, and he pulled a small amount of mental energy into her, calming her frazzled nerves.

Emily's eyes fluttered closed, and a peaceful expression washed over her face. She felt like she was floating, warm water enveloping her like a soothing bath.

As Kai withdrew his hand, Emily's eyes snapped open, and she looked at him with a mixture of wonder and gratitude. Emily thought to herself, He did it again. That feeling that he does.

Kai's expression was neutral, but a hint of a smile played on his lips. He knew exactly what she was thinking.

The drive to their respective homes was quiet, the only sound the soft hum of the engine. As Kai dropped Emily off, they shared a tender kiss that lasted for several minutes. Tears streamed down Emily's face as she clung to Kai.

"I love you, Kai," she whispered, her voice trembling. "I really learned to love you."

Kai's voice was low and husky. "Me too, Ems."

As Emily pulled away, Kai watched her walk to her front door. Her mother emerged from the bedroom, a look of concern on her face.

"Hi, Emily. You said you were going to a restaurant with Kai. How was it?"

Emily's voice was hesitant. "It was great, Mom, but something happened."

Her mother's expression turned alarmed. "What happened?"

Emily took a deep breath. "I was kinda kidnapped."

Her mother's eyes widened in shock. "Kidnapped? Are you okay? Are you fine?"

Emily nodded, but a faint edge of fear still lingered on her face.

Emily's mother talked, her voice filled with concern. "Oh dear, how did this happen?"

Emily shook her head, her eyes welling up with tears. "Mom, I don't wanna talk about it. It's been a lot."

Her mother's expression softened. "Okay, my dear, I understand. But where was Kai? What happened to him?"

Emily's voice was barely above a whisper. "He's the one who's okay, Mom. He saved me... but Mom, I just wanna go to sleep. Can we talk about this tomorrow?"

Her mother nodded, pulling Emily into a warm hug. "Okay, sweetie. I'm glad you're fine, my dear. I'm glad. You have a great boyfriend who protected you."

Emily nodded, her voice muffled against her mother's shoulder. "Yes, Mom."

Unbeknownst to Kai, Emily's mother held her close, grateful that her daughter was safe.

Meanwhile, Kai drove home, lost in thought. "Whoa, what a crazy night it has been," he muttered to himself. "These people were trying to hurt Emily. It's not the first time. They're so jealous of her achievements, of being with me."

As he drove, Kai thought about teleporting his car to his house. "What if I teleport my car to my house?" he wondered. But he hesitated, thinking it might not be easy.

Kai decided to try it anyway. "Teleport," he said, focusing his energy.

The next moment, Kai's car disappeared from the road, reappearing in front of his house. The tires screeched as Kai struggled to get the car under control. He slammed on the brakes, and the car came to a stop.

Kai's nose began to bleed, and he winced in pain. "Wow, maybe I expanded too much energy," he thought, remembering his father's warnings.

Kai got out of the car, still feeling a bit shaken. He took a deep breath, trying to calm down. "At least I teleported it," he thought, feeling a sense of accomplishment.

Kai drove the car into his yard, the security gates opening automatically. He parked the car and went into his house, still trying to process the events of the night.

As he entered his room, Kai sat down on his bed, feeling exhausted. "Wow, this was a crazy night," he thought, trying to recall all the things that had happened.

Kai shook his head, amazed at his own abilities. "Whoa, me teleporting a one-ton car. I won't do that again until I can teleport more things."

As Kai sat on his bed, flushes of energy came to him. He was hoisted in the air, and he told himself, "What is happening right now? Am I elevated? Have my powers grown? Is it because I teleported a car?"

Kai's thoughts were a jumbled mix of excitement and confusion. "Whoa, whoa," he muttered to himself.

The next moment, Kai went through the roof. But as he passed through the solid surface, his body seemed to phase through it like a ghost. He was deep in the air, and he exclaimed, "What is happening right now? Am I... what is this? This flying again?"
