Chapter 50 - Kai's Gift of Hope

As Kai looked at the girl, he saw her convulsing on the ground. Her small body jerked violently, and her eyes rolled back in her head. Kai's expression turned concerned, and he quickly turned to the doctor. "You said you could help her, but now look what's happening," Kai said, his voice firm but controlled.

The doctor looked taken aback, his face pale. "I...I didn't expect this reaction," he stuttered. Kai continued, "First, Doctor, you touched her neck and chest, which made her convulse even more. You should have known better." The doctor's eyes widened in surprise, and he thought to himself, "Wow, this boy is knowledgeable about medical procedures. But how does he know all this?"

Kai, sensing the doctor's thoughts, smiled inwardly. He focused his attention on the girl, and a warm, spiritual energy began to flow from him into her. The girl's convulsions slowed, and she relaxed, her small body calming. Kai's eyes never left the girl's face as he continued to channel the energy into her.

As she woke up, Kai saw that Kate was a small, delicate girl, likely around seven or eight years old, with a petite face, full lips, big round eyes, dark brown messy hair, wearing a faded pink t-shirt and worn-out jeans, with scuffed-up sneakers on her feet and a small, faded backpack strapped to her back.

Kai heard her thoughts clearly: "Mommy, where's Mommy?" Kai's expression turned sympathetic. He realized the girl was lost and scared. He knelt down beside her, his eyes locked on hers. "Hello, little girl," he said softly. "I'm here. You're safe now."

The girl looked up at Kai, her eyes filled with fear and uncertainty. "Who are you?" she thought. "I want my mommy." Kai's voice was gentle as he said, "My name is Kai. I'm here to help you. Can you tell me your name?"

The girl looked around, taking in the crowd of people surrounding her. She hesitated before answering, "My name is Kate." Kai smiled. "Oh, Kate. Nice to meet you. Tell me, girl, what happened to your parents? Where are they?"

Kate's thoughts were a jumble of fear and uncertainty. She didn't know how to tell this stranger that she was an orphan, that she had been on her own for as long as she could remember. She had run away from the orphanage, and now she was alone in the world.

Kai's expression turned stern, and he asked again, "So, girl, what happened to your parents?" Kate took a deep breath and spoke up, her voice trembling.

The girl looked up at Kai with tears in her eyes. "I have no mommy," she said, her voice trembling. "I have no daddy."

Kai's expression turned stern, and he took a step back. The doctor, who was standing beside him, looked at Kai and the girl with surprise.

Kai's voice was firm but gentle. "Okay, so girl, what were you doing in the streets, running around?"

The girl hesitated before answering. "I was looking for food and some things."

Kai nodded. "Alright. But you can't take care of yourself out here. It's not safe."

The girl's eyes flashed with determination. "I can take care of myself," she said, her voice firm. "I've been doing it for a long time."

Kai's gaze lingered on the girl's face, and he thought to himself, "She's been through hard times. The streets of Soweto can be dangerous, and they can swallow you whole."

The doctor spoke up, "We should take her to the police station and report her as a missing child."

Kai shook his head. "No, we need to take care of her health first. We'll take her to the hospital and get her checked out."

The doctor raised an eyebrow. "But shouldn't we report her to the authorities?"

Kai's voice was firm. "Her health is the priority right now. We can deal with the paperwork later."

The doctor nodded. "Alright, let's get her to the hospital. I'll drive."

Kai smiled. "No, I'll drive. You can ride with us."

The doctor looked at Kai with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion, but Kai just smiled and said, "Let's go."

As Kai told the doctor where they were going, he walked out of the crowd and turned to Kate. "Hey Kate, me and this doctor will take you to the hospital."

Kate looked up at him uncertainly. "The hospital? But I'm fine."

Kai smiled reassuringly. "We'll get you checked out, just to make sure. You fainted, and we can't trust that you're okay."

Kate nodded reluctantly. "Okay, okay. Okay, brother Kai."

Kai took Kate's hand, and at first, she was a little shy. But as they walked, she seemed to relax. The crowd dispersed around them, with people murmuring and pointing.

As they walked to Kai's car, the doctor trailed behind them, looking astonished. When Kai pressed the key fob, the doctor's eyes widened as he saw the Mercedes-Benz logo.

The doctor thought to himself, "What? This boy drives a Mercedes-Benz? How is that possible?" He looked at his own car, a Toyota, and thought, "I'm a doctor, and I earn a good salary, but this boy's car is only a few months old. How can he afford it?"

Kai looked at the doctor and smiled, as if he knew what the doctor was thinking. Kate, who was still holding Kai's hand, looked up at him with wide eyes.

"Brother Kai, is this your car?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Kai nodded. "Yes, it is. You can get in."

Kate looked at the car uncertainly, then back at Kai. "Okay," she said finally, and climbed into the car.

Kai turned to the doctor. "You can drive in front of us, and we'll follow."

The doctor nodded, still looking a bit dazed. "Okay, okay. Let's go."

He got into his Toyota and drove off, with Kai following behind him in his Mercedes-Benz.

As Kai drove behind the doctor's Toyota, Kate chattered excitedly beside him. "Brother Kai, I've never been in a car like this before! It's so beautiful!"

Kai smiled. "Thank you, Kate. I'm glad you like it."

Kate's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Whose car is this, Brother Kai? Is it your father's?"

Kai chuckled. "No, Kate. This is my car. I bought it myself."

Kate's eyes widened. "Wow, you must have a lot of money! The boys in the street say you need a lot of money to buy a car like this."

Kai's expression turned serious. "Yes, Kate. But it's not just about having money. It's about working hard and making good choices."

Kate nodded thoughtfully. "I see. But some people say you must steal to get a car like this."

Kai's eyes narrowed. "Who said that, Kate?"

Kate hesitated. "A big man said it. He said you have to steal to get things you want."

Kai's voice was firm. "That's not true, Kate. Stealing is wrong, and it can get you into big trouble. You could even go to jail."

Kate's eyes widened in alarm. "I don't want to go to jail! I've heard it's not a nice place."

Kai smiled. "That's good, Kate. It's good that you know stealing is wrong. Now, tell me more about why you've been running around. What happened at the orphanage where you lived?"

Kate's expression turned somber. "It was like jail, Brother Kai. We had to go to bed early, and the mother of the orphanage was very mean. She would take us to a dark place and hit us if we were naughty."

Kai's expression turned serious, and he thought to himself, "This girl has been through a lot. No wonder she's been running around."

As they drove, the doctor finally stopped in front of a large hospital, the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

As they arrived at the hospital, Kai stepped out of the car and looked up at the building. "Isn't this the same hospital where my father is being treated?" he thought to himself. "What a small world."

The doctor, Hammingsworth, turned to Kai and said, "Yes, we're here. This is the hospital."

Kai looked at the doctor, then back at the hospital. The doctor watched him, thinking, "Now he'll see the prices and realize how steep they are."

Kai turned to the doctor and asked, "Doctor, I haven't gotten your name yet."

The doctor apologized, "Sorry about that. My name is Doctor Craven Hammingsworth."

Kai nodded. "Okay, Doctor Hammingsworth."

As they walked towards the hospital entrance, the manager, Brandon, approached Kai. "Hi, Mister Kai. Nice to meet you again. Are you here to visit your father?"

Kai replied, "No, I've come to check in this little girl."

The manager looked at Kate, then back at Kai. "I see. Well, Doctor Hammingsworth here can vouch for you, I presume?"

Hammingsworth nodded, "Yes, Mister Brandon. Kai here is a wonderful young man. He saved this girl's life."

The manager's expression changed. "Ah, Mister Kai, I remember you now. You're the young man who paid over two hundred thousand rand to have your father treated in our VIP room."

Hammingsworth's eyes widened in surprise. "I didn't know that," he said, looking at Kai with newfound respect.

Kai smiled humbly. "It was nothing, Doctor."

The manager continued, "Well, Mister Kai, we'll make sure to give this little girl the best care possible."

Kai nodded. "Thank you, Mister Brandon. I'd like to book the best room for her, please."

The manager nodded. "Of course, Mister Kai. The best room is forty thousand rand per day."

Kai pulled out his Emerald Card. "I'll take it for a week, please."

The manager's eyes widened. "That will be two hundred thousand rand, Mister Kai."

Kai nodded. "That's fine. Please proceed with the booking."

As the manager processed the payment, Hammingsworth watched in awe. "Two hundred thousand rand, just like that," he thought to himself.
