Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 Love at First Sight

Rong Jing'an's face quivered, pale with a hint of green, pointing at them, completely unable to speak.

His heart was filled with regret, wishing he had driven this man out earlier, and now with Elder Fu here…

Thinking of this, his expression softened a bit, pointing towards the door with a commanding tone, "Let's discuss this matter at home, go back and wait for me there."

Was he trying to send Pei Yibai away and then continue discussing selling her off?

Song Weiyi's mind raced, and she affectionately took his hand, standing beside him, dependent as a little bird.

"Daddy, it's alright, since it's a family banquet, let Yibai join us too."

"I know that my relationship with Yibai has upset you, Dad, but…" Her pitiable tone paused at this moment.

She looked up, her eyes shimmering with tears, filled with admiration and longing for this man who seemed like a deity.

Standing beside him at this moment, she felt an unprecedented surge of confidence.

Was their aim to find a wealthy man like Elder Fu, to sell her off in exchange for money?

She refused to go as they wished, choosing a man who was the complete opposite of what they had imagined, making their efforts futile. With her, they would gain nothing.

"But, I truly love him, and he loves me too, which is why we've decided to get married. Dad, no matter what, he is already your son-in-law, that is an established fact. Are you really going to force us to divorce?" By the end, her voice was crying.

Tears, after she finished speaking and furiously blinking multiple times along with pinching her thigh several times, only barely managed to emerge.

Had she known, she would have rubbed some chili on her cuff; it would have been much more convenient.

Hearing his "dear wife's" heartfelt confession, Pei Yibai couldn't help but twitch his forehead, as the little woman looked at him earnestly.

By now, Elder Fu had clearly understood that Pei Yibai was not Rong Jing'an's illegitimate child, but his son-in-law!

But Song Weiyi felt the drama wasn't intense enough, she placed her hand on her flat belly, gently caressing it, suddenly radiating a maternal glow on her face.

"Dad, there might already be your grandchild here. Can you bear to see him born without a father? I have suffered such pain for ten years. As a child. I longed so much to see you, hoped so desperately that you would wait for me outside school every time school was out, to take me home…"

That last part was actually true.

The young Song Weiyi too yearned for fatherly love, but each time such hopes were crushed by harsh reality, leaving her with nothing.

By the time Rong Jing'an had taken her back to the Fu Family, she was already ten, old enough to understand, no longer longing for that unattainable father.

"Ridiculous!" Rong Jing'an only paid attention to the first part, failing to hear the true sentiment in Song Weiyi's last words.

Seeing Elder Fu's face darken beside him, Rong Jing'an was terrified, fearing that if Elder Fu got angry, their days would be far from good.

"Elder Fu, it's just children being ignorant, throwing tantrums at me. Today's incident was an accident, I will definitely give you a satisfying answer tomorrow."

Meaning, this banquet with ulterior motives needed to end early.

Because Rong Jing'an had to settle accounts with Song Weiyi, and of course, Pei Yibai was included.

The family banquet ended in disarray, with Rong Jing'an, his face dark with anger, ordering Song Weiyi to return home. She held Pei Yibai's hand, trailing behind leisurely with great ease.

The man's palm was large, more than enough to envelop her small hand. The hand-holding from her new husband was strange, considering they had been complete strangers until the afternoon, yet now they oddly held hands.

The key was, compared to her cold hand, Pei Yibai's hand was warm and dry, imbued with a strong sense of care, making it hard for Song Weiyi to dislike it.

"My dear wife, maybe you should explain to me what just happened," she thought Pei Yibai, who was usually reticent, would keep silent all the way back, but unexpectedly, he asked such a tricky question without any warning.

Weiyi's leisurely mood suddenly seemed to drop.

"Hmm?"

"However, your dad's reaction was somewhat expected, after all, our marriage was too impulsive, maybe..."

The words 'maybe' made Weiyi feel uneasy. Maybe what? Maybe they weren't suitable for each other, so her husband wanted to divorce her?

"No way, husband, don't abandon me, I'm sincerely into you, truer than gold," Weiyi clung to his waist, assuring him with absolute certainty and sincerity.

Of course, this small sacrifice was necessary for their marriage.

What if Pei Yibai and she got married now, and her family resorted to their old tricks again, selling her to someone else?

If they dared to drug her once for money, there would be a second time, a third time. Such incidents were hard to prevent; without any power, how could she fight against them?

Therefore, marriage was the most reliable safeguard.

"Hmm? Is that so? You fell for me the first time you saw me?" Pei Yibai asked, feigning confusion.

Weiyi nodded earnestly. "Husband, don't you know there's such a thing as 'love at first sight'?"

"You fell in love with me at first sight?"

The corners of his mouth curved upward, that phrase didn't really fit her. It should be...

The little woman had no idea what he was thinking and just kept chattering, trying to explain the panic she'd felt earlier.

"Yes, the first time I saw you, your white shirt looked so nice, others can't pull it off with the same charm as you. Then, there's your face, so refined and handsome. Plus, you're gentlemanly, considerate, your hands are attractive, you stand up for me..."

Weiyi initially meant to say something casually just for the sake of conversation, but after finishing, she realized all of it was true, without a hint of insincerity.

Oh no, that feeling of an accelerating heartbeat was coming back, Weiyi touched her chest, and surprise, her cheeks reddened.

Pei Yibai watched with amusement as his little wife stuttered until she could no longer speak, feeling suddenly much comforted.

Pleasant words are, after all, more pleasing to the ear, and he decided to take his little wife's words as the truth.

"Anything else?" Pei Yibai smiled, his lips curved in a tease.

Ah, that's not enough? Weiyi pouted, continuing to think earnestly.

"Um, also, you're so tall, and you have a great figure." This was also extremely true.

At one sixty-five, she wasn't particularly tall but wasn't short either. Yet, standing beside Pei Yibai, she still looked much shorter, giving her an immediate sense of being protected.

As for a good figure...

Pei Yibai's smile deepened, "How long did you watch me to come to that conclusion? You haven't seen me without clothes yet, have you?" He lowered his voice and leaned in close to his little wife, blowing air gently.

As expected, Weiyi's face turned red, she looked left and right, but couldn't bring herself to meet Pei Yibai's eyes.

"I just, I just looked casually, you don't necessarily need to strip to see."
