"Son, let's eat!" Mother called me softly.
For several days after Einar and Margaretha's deaths, all I did was sit quietly in front of the glass window in my room, pensive, feeling uninspired. Sometimes my father also came to visit my room to tell me about his journey to the city, my father did that maybe because my mother was worried about me.
However, I still carry out my activities as usual; helping my parents with their work or reading a book.
While reading a book in my favorite place, I saw a large group of troops led by the Mayor walking on the main street of the village. This was exactly like what I heard from my father's previous conversation, throwing down the book I was reading then picking up a sword that was lying beside me, and immediately ran towards the group of troops.
I have strengthened my determination to avenge the deaths of Einar and Margaretha. Even though I only have basic techniques, I am confident that the abilities I have will have a significant impact in this attack.
"Let me come, Donovan!"
Everyone's eyes turned towards me. Donovan looked at me with a sad face.
"Please take me with you!"
Donovan was about to get off his horse, but the Lord Mayor stopped him and he was the one who got off his horse to approach me. My hand gripped the hilt of the sword very tightly, my eyes stared intently, my heartbeat increased, I could feel a very strong aura from every step of the Lord Mayor's footsteps.
The Lord Mayor bent one of his knees to match my height. "Why do you want to go, kid?" He looked at me with a sharp gaze, but that wouldn't make me flinch in the slightest.
"To avenge the deaths of my friends, Einar and Margaretha."
Everyone didn't speak, they focused their gaze on me who was talking to the Lord Mayor. But a very strong gust of wind from the north made the Lord Mayor smile, his rock-hard palm rubbed my fontanel gently. I smiled too, thinking that the Lord Mayor would accept my request to go with him.
"Even if I wanted to, I can't take you away, kid!" The smile on my face dropped, turning into disappointment. "This is not your war. You have a bright future, now is not the right time for you to enter the battlefield. Be strong, train hard, I will leave the fate of the future of this country to young people like you. If I leave this war to young people like you, then who will protect this country in the future? For now, just leave this fight to an old man like me."
Every word the Lord Mayor said somehow shook my soul.
"Don't get hung up on revenge, it will only destroy you. Just accept the fighting spirit of your two friends, I'm sure that's the reason they bequeathed their valuable objects to you." The Lord Mayor stood up straight again. "Are they your parents?"
I turned my face to see my parents watching my conversation with the Lord Mayor. My father stared sharply as he hugged my mother's body which was covered in tears.
"Go see them! Don't worry them!" Mr. Mayor took a deep breath to say words of encouragement to all of us. "Wait for our return! We will bring victory to you, welcome our return with cheers, with banners of victory. Smile, be happy, and look at this entire army with pride!"
While the Lord Mayor returned to his horse, Father and Mother immediately ran over to me. My father was standing next to me, my mother, who was sobbing, hugged my body tightly. I who couldn't even react to Lord Mayor's words started to shed tears.
A few days after the incident, news was sent by the largest media company in the country, Times News. On the front page, it shows the West Deurlands Empire starting to invade areas around the Ingrisia continent, and its alliance with the Hinode Empire on the Andari continent and the Cotette kingdom from the Ingrisia continent declaring war on all countries in the world.
This became the starting point of the second world war, which forced even neutral parties to follow suit. The statistics on the scale of destruction and casualties caused by this war were exactly as Einar had previously predicted. The scale of the destruction covered the entire face of the earth with an ominous black cloud and reached tens of millions of victims. Surprisingly, there are more civilian deaths than military deaths.
Along with the end of the war and the collapse of the Uruk empire, the Lord Mayor's group finally returned home and were greeted by many cheers from the residents of Pattimura village. Previously, the residents were a little worried because none of the Lord Mayor's troops had returned for six months. I don't know what made them come back for so long, even though as far as I know what they did was just to attack the wild animals in the Stultus forest.
A few days later, the big media, Times News, again reported that Hero Iqbal had succeeded in defeating the demon king Satan and was greeted with cheers from everyone.
Meanwhile at home I had to argue with Mom who didn't agree with my desire to become an adventurer. In fact, it made our relationship a little strained and I didn't know what to do to convince my mom.
"Do you want to lead your life to death? do you want to make your mother suffer all her life? never mind, I will never approve of your desire to become an adventurer!"
Actually, I intended not to ask mother's permission, because I already had permission from father. But my father said that I still had to ask my mother for permission, because she was the one who gave birth and carried me for nine months.
"I knows your mother's words are too harsh. But she is the one who will suffer the most if something untoward happens to you," said Father when we were sitting together under the tree.
"Yes, I understand dad, I also don't want to worry her. But I have a dream, this is not because of my promise to Einar, but more like my desire, my ambition."
"I know, son! Dad is a man too."
While thinking about how to persuade Mother, I always practiced alone in the yard, sometimes I also practiced swordsmanship with Marco's father, who was a state knight. And read a book about magic alone in the room, even though I had quite a hard time understanding it.
"Einar... Margaretha...." I tightly grasped the necklace the two of them had given me. "Give me the strength and courage you have."
