"Gravity, my dear Yuri, is not your friend."
Damian stood in front of his blackboard, me, in a student's desk once again.
"How do I negate gravity?"
"Simple. You teleport so fast, gravity has no ability to affect you."
"That doesn't sound possible."
"This world isn't possible."
"Good point."
"So, let's talk about how we go that fast. For you, you need to travel at literally unmeasurable speeds. To do that, you have to live, breathe, and sleep, teleportation."
"How do I do that."
"You teleport as often as possible; I mean for everything. I don't even want to see you eat breakfast without teleporting the food into your mouth first."
"The way you say it sounds gross."
"I'm serious here. You're on the edge. On one side is absolute mastery of high-speed teleportation, or, as you would call it, flying. But, on the other side, we have an incomplete skill that fails to fight off the threat. We also have an infinite amount of universes where you die from gravity, but let's not think about that; unless that motivates you further, then think a lot about that."
"You're a terrible teacher, you know that? Anyways, I get it; somehow, teleporting fast enough prevents gravity from having an effect on me, which prevents me from slamming into the ground at terminal velocity as soon as I stop teleporting."
"Exactly. So, I want you to teleport for everything, even walking."
"Won't that just look like I'm gliding across the floor?"
"Yeah, I think that would look pretty cool if you did that while holding your hand behind your back."
"That's more of a villain type look, but I do agree, it would be cool. Alright, I'll teleport everywhere and see everything until I'm ready."
And so I did. It looked like I was skating almost everywhere I went. It didn't take long for me to increase teleport speed and start moving so fast it created a wind tunnel. I also invented a new teleport based weapon.
"Meet the washer gun."
I introduce the gizmo strapped onto my hand. It's a pretty simple device, just a magnetic rail gun and some washers. I close my hand into a fist and a washer shoots off a few feet then falls to the ground.
"It's weak by itself, but when I combine it with my powers."
I shoot off another washer and instantly teleport it before it manages to lose any momentum.
*Crack*
The quarter slams into the wooden chair across the room, impaling itself deep inside.
"Teleport negates all loss of energy and makes it so I don't even have to aim the gun."
I fire off in the completely opposite direction and manage to hit the same chair.
And things went on like that. I got better. I mastered nothingness, my teleportations got farther and faster, it started to look like I had super speed; I even figured out how to use teleportation on a moving car. I managed a trip from Ohio all the way to Washington and back in less than half a day.
Yes, things went great and they went fast. I could almost feel my powers at my fingertips; in fact a few times I swear I did feel something in my hands.
Then I remembered something id forgotten a long while ago.
"That button in the elevator. Remember, we never used it, but there was a button for the basement that you needed a key to use."
I get Damian and Terri into the elevator with me, and we all look over the elevator panel. Indeed, there was a button that was labeled "B", presumably for basement.
"I don't get it, we still need a key."
Terri didn't see the big picture here. Maybe he never noticed me doing it before, since it's not one of the abilities of teleport I frequently use.
"We don't need a key. Watch this."
I reach my hand towards the "B" button and then open a wormhole between my wrist and right behind the button. I haven't found much to do with this ability besides steal quarters, but this button is perfectly suited for it. I take the piece of tinfoil in my hands and press it against the electrical contacts on the back of the key switch, the "B" button illuminates.
"See, the key is just an electrical switch; if you just jump the connections on it, it unlocks the button."
I press the "B" button and the elevator doors close with a loud screeching sound.
"Yuri, didn't we decide to never use this thing since we couldn't trust its safety."
"I just now remembered that. And, the building is severely damaged. Damian, tell me we don't die here and now."
"Eh, fifty-fifty."
"What the hell kind of odds are those?"
"I didn't think this was gonna be the future where you just pressed the button without thinking."
Then, the elevator started its descent down.
Down to the basement or down to the grave; we'd have to hope for the former.
