Chapter 36 - Chapter 36

"How can we beat Damian?"

I sit at a desk, facing Terri.

"He knows everything doesn't he?"

"He predicts what we say, what we do, even things months down the line. How do you fight someone that can predict your every move?"

"You don't. I mean, he didn't seem all that evil to me. Maybe we can just talk to him."

"Terri, he stabbed me, or will stab me. He watched me die and then smiled. We never knew him, not really."

"I don't see how you'll even manage to land a single attack."

"Thanks for the confidence inspiring words."

"I'm serious. If he's going to kill you, you have to take this seriously. In all seriousness, you can't fight someone who can predict your every move."

"He couldn't predict lottery numbers. He can't predict randomness, at least, not somewhat randomness."

"How do you fight randomly? You gonna roll a die for every attack?"

"Well, hold on now, that's not such a bad idea."

"I'm pretty sure he's not gonna give you a moment between every punch."

"No, no. I mean, what if, we randomly select moves now. I mean we can't know what he's gonna do so we can't randomly decide evasions and stuff like that, but we can randomly pick out attacks to use now and then I can try to stick to what we selected. In fact that gives me a really good idea. What if, I added a random number generation feature to the washer gun; then he won't know when I'm about to fire at him."

"But you won't know either."

"Still, it's random. I think we have something here."

"So, let me understand. You want to modify your gun to fire at random, and you want to randomly select moves for a fight that hasn't happened yet?"

"Exactly."

"I mean, I can't come up with a better plan, but I know there has to be a better way to fight him."

"You tell me if you come up with one. In the meantime, I'm gonna go find some dice and start plotting out my attack strategy."

So I plotted it all out over the coming weeks.

At the same time, I started learning to fly. Although I can't trust everything he said, Damian was adamant that flight was necessary to beat him.

I'd say I was about fifty percent complete when it finally happened.

All of a sudden, the building began to shake just like during the first earthquake. I ran outside to see Damian standing outside, his hands thrust out in front of him as if he was psychically attacking the building.

This was it. This was our big fight.
