Juniper Pov
I slipped out of bed carefully, trying not to wake Lucian. His deep breathing stayed slow and even as I gathered my clothes. I felt bad lying to him like this. But I didn't have any other choice left.
"Leaving so soon?" Lucian's sleepy voice made me jump.
I turned to see him propped up on one elbow, eyeing me with concern. "Babe, where are you going at this hour?"

"I...I have an errand to run. It can't wait until morning." The half-truth felt lame even to my own ears.
Lucian frowned. "What errand could possibly need tending to at 2 AM? Don't shut me out, June."
I busied myself with getting dressed to avoid his pointed gaze. "It's private business, that's all."
He sat up fully, sheets pooling around his waist. "More secrets between us now? After everything we just shared?"
