After killing the monster, Axel looked at the bloody ax in his hand. He had to clean it up. He swung the ax and splashed the blood on it to the ground. He wiped the remaining blood with a napkin. Even though the ax still smelled worse, there was no water with it now.
After examining the monster some more, he returned to the others. Felix saved everyone. The female vampire sucked the blood of a rabbit she caught.
Seeing Axel, Felix covered his nose. "Dude, you stink, damn it." The blood on Axel's ax smelled disgusting. Even though ordinary people could not smell this scent, vampires could.
Recognizing the scent, the female vampire turned to Axel. "That's the smell of that monster" She started to approach Axel. She stood in front of Axel and ran his hands over Axel's body. The vampire's hand was on Axel's axe.
Axel pushed the vampire away from him. He didn't expect the foreign vampire to be so bold as to touch his own weapon. "You killed the monster."
She realized that Axel was quite strong. There must have been few vampires who could kill that monster. Everything fell into place in his mind when the female vampire remembered Axel's axe. She had heard about an axe-wielding vampire. She thought the things she heard about him killing 5 vampires by himself were exaggerations, but today she believes it to be true. "I'm Elena, thank you for your help." Elena was looking into Axel's eyes with a smile.
"You're welcome," Axel said with a straight face. Axel gesticulated for Felix and Maxwell to follow. "I wonder if I can see that monster's body too?" Elena was curious about the final state of the monster hunting her. Axel nodded in approval. Axel didn't want to waste time walking since the monster was far away.
When Axel started running, the others started to follow. Axel wasn't running fast so the others could catch up with him.
When they arrived at the location where the body was found, the body was on the ground, but there was something different. The Beast's severed limbs were slowly healing. His head began to merge with his body. Axel realized that he had to burn this monster.
Elena felt uncomfortable again after seeing the monster. "I guess it was a tough battle," Felix said with a laugh. Looking at the creature, it had no limbs, and Axel didn't even have a scratch. Maxwell was watching the monster with interest.
Axel actually wanted to examine the monster's body parts and organs, but they had no choice but to burn the monster to kill it.
Axel took the creature's severed legs and extracted the bones. He was curious about the strength of the weapon he could fashion from them. Elena watched Axel with interest, seeing a man like him for the first time.
Meanwhile, Felix and Maxwell gathered wood to burn the creature. Once they had enough, they began piling it onto the creature. Axel calmly tested the strength of the bone he had obtained, confident that he could craft a weapon from it. When he tested its durability, he found it even stronger than his own axe.
As dusk fell, they had collected enough wood. They had the option to cut down trees, but they refrained from doing so as the trees in the area were at least a thousand years old. Felix and Maxwell had brought the fallen tree blocking the RV's path. They had chosen an open area to prevent a wildfire. After preparing the wood, they poured some gasoline on it.
Once Felix had everything ready, he looked at Axel, and their eyes met. Felix took a match and locked eyes with Axel once more. Axel closed and reopened his eyes, silently approving. Felix struck the match and tossed it onto the wood. The gasoline ignited, and a massive fire erupted. Axel stared at the flames without blinking, Maxwell gazed at the sky, and Felix looked at Axel. Elena, like Axel, gazed at the roaring fire.
Axel and his friends had slain many vampires before and burned their bodies afterward. Although Felix and Maxwell knew they were doing the right thing, they didn't enjoy it. They didn't want to be reapers of death. Axel, on the other hand, was more composed because of his past experiences. Even if he felt pity for others, he knew his enemies wouldn't show him any mercy. Recently, they had killed a vampire who hadn't shown mercy to a baby.
Axel had initially tried to warn the vampire, but it had ignored him and threatened him instead. Once threatened, Axel had taken up his axe. It was too late for the vampire to realize its mistakes, as its head had already fallen to the ground, separated from its body.
Axel hadn't even blinked when he killed the vampire. His expression remained unchanged. Although Felix and Maxwell had initially been uncomfortable with Axel's demeanor, they had come to understand it later. Axel's ruthlessness was necessary. After understanding this, they supported Axel in this regard, but they couldn't be as ruthless as him because Axel had seen the darker side of the world more than they had. The first blood he had drunk after becoming a vampire was that of his own family.
After hours of waiting, the fire finally died out. Elena had left by then. Axel stood up from the rock he was sitting on and stretched. The sky was starting to brighten. As Axel began to walk toward the RV, Maxwell followed him.
Felix had gone early to retrieve the Rv from its hiding spot. The dawn sunlight was just beginning to filter through the forest, and the rustling of the poplar leaves made the atmosphere peaceful. Maxwell preferred listening to the sound of the leaves rustling over the songs Felix had listened to all day. There was a gentle breeze. Starting the day like this after a difficult night gave them energy.
Axel remembered his past life. He used to smoke in moments like these, but now, he could only drink blood. Previously, remembering his past would depress him, but now, he had a philosophy: don't mourn for what's gone, celebrate what was. Since adopting this philosophy, he smiled whenever he remembered his past.
When they arrived at the RV, Felix was sitting in the driver's seat, humming a tune. Axel boarded the RV and fetched water to clean his axe. After washing the blood off his axe, a foul smell lingered. He stowed the axes in the RV's hidden cupboard. After taking a shower, he felt clean. He wore a black shirt and pants.
As Axel went to sit in the driver's seat, he swapped places with Felix. Although Maxwell was clean, Felix was still dirty.
Axel checked the blood bag supply. They had enough for about two months. If they ran out, they could feed on animal blood or acquire more blood bags from the special hospitals in Washington. They had come to Shelton, a town near Olympia, for a reason.
They had seen some news in the newspapers about many missing persons cases. Axel was sure there was a supernatural event happening here. Their original plan was to continue their journey without stopping here, but curiosity got the better of them.
