Chapter 9 - 9. The Fiery Justice

When Axel reached the barn door, he noticed that it was locked from the inside. There was a strange smell coming from inside. He tried to open the door, but it wouldn't budge because it was locked from the inside. Axel pondered why a barn door would be locked, but couldn't come up with a plausible explanation.

He circled around the back of the barn but couldn't find any way in. Axel knew he had to break in somehow, but that would make too much noise.

Then an idea struck Axel, and he returned to the barn door. Raising his hand, Axel tapped lightly on the barn door. After a few seconds, he heard noises coming from inside. Someone approached the barn door and unlocked it.

As the door began to open, the person inside realized that something was wrong when he saw Axel. Just as he was about to scream, Axel acted quickly, grabbing the man by the neck and choking him unconscious. After knocking the man unconscious, Axel released his grip and carried the man inside. Once inside, Axel laid the man on the ground and tied him up.

There was no one else in the barn. Axel was shocked at what he saw. There was human skin on the table.

Appalled by the atrocity, Axel grabbed his trusty axe. He fought to control himself. Among the missing was a little girl. How could anyone harm a little girl?

Axel's family was killed by vampires. He hunted vampires that resembled the ones that killed his family. This brought him a semblance of peace. Axel knew he had mental problems. Would he hunt vampires if he hadn't been traumatized? Or would he be dealing with the Wendigo?

Axel did not like to dwell on such things because they left him feeling conflicted. He had gotten used to not questioning life. Sometimes he wished he could be ignorant, for ignorance was bliss.

In the end, Axel chose not to be rational, but to do as he pleased. He didn't want to involve his precious friends. Vampires hunted humans for sustenance. The Wendigo wanted to feed. But these humans were not driven by hunger.

Axel would not stain his axe on them. Instead, he would give them a different kind of death. Returning from the barn, Axel approached the house. With a kick, he shattered the door, sending it flying inside. The door collided with the wall, making a large dent.

Axel was no longer in control. He entered the house and found four people running toward the noise. One of them was brandishing a knife. The smell indicated that they were having a meal.

"Why did you kill those people?" Axel looked so menacing that the individuals were too frightened to answer. Axel's patience was wearing thin.

It was then that Axel noticed that some of the furniture in the house was made of human skin. Axel's blood ran cold. He grabbed a piece of the broken door and quickly struck the leg of the person holding the gun. Axel's blow was so powerful that it shattered the man's leg, leaving him writhing on the ground in pain. Axel hit the others as well. The woman began to plead.

"Please, I'm innocent, let me go." The woman tried to evoke sympathy with tears, but what she didn't know was that Axel had received psychological training. Axel could easily tell when someone was lying. Many of the vampires he had killed had lied to him.

Without answering the woman, Axel grabbed her by the hair and led her to the barn. He tied her up next to the other three people. When he was sure that no one was left in the house, Axel returned to the barn.

Inside, everyone was gasping for breath. Axel had struck each of them with a solid blow. It was such a powerful blow that not even a vampire could escape unscathed. Axel grabbed a can of gasoline from the barn and started pouring it on them. Despite the pleas of the killers, Axel kept pouring.

When the gasoline ran out, Axel went to the barn door, picked up a match he found inside, and struck it. He glanced at the barn one last time before lighting the match. The gasoline ignited in an instant and the flames quickly engulfed the barn.

Axel took one last look at the barn before returning to the house. He searched the rooms and eventually found the hidden room where the murders had taken place. After confirming that no one was alive, he called 911 from the house phone. He didn't tell the operator anything. They would probably send the police. Axel took one last look at the burning barn. The screams from inside had stopped. No one's heart was beating. They had all perished in the flames.

As Axel made his way back to where the caravan would be, he found Felix sitting outside, staring at the sky. Felix noticed Axel's arrival and studied him. He sensed that something was wrong, but decided to remain silent when he saw Axel's somber expression.

When Axel told them what he had seen, Felix and Maxwell decided to remain silent as well. Vampires killed humans for food, but what Axel witnessed today was different.
