Chapter 5 - Magic And Ultimatum

The Warbringer:

"Magic is a tool existing since the dawn of the universe, a gift bestowed upon races by The Greater One, a limitless power that has no shape or form, it's the user's imagination that gives it everything.

... A race becomes aware of magic when they are scheduled to awaken, and then something called 'mana veins' open in their bodies, these veins, they are directly connected to your heart which would be the center of what you would call your mana pool. The veins are what you'll be using to manifest your spells, and the mana pool will give limits to your spells."

This explanation is at the basis a correct and not biased one I thought to myself, every race is set to awaken at a specific time and once they do they are given an ultimatum for mastering whatever they can in the form of magic ... before the gates to the floods of the universe open... Before the vast sea of stars recognizes them and judges them.

"If it isn't clear magic uses mana, mana is present everywhere around you, always has been. It's a natural element of this world... no, of this universe. ... With magic as I said the potential is limitless but to reach greater heights you first have to understand it, nurture and develop it along with your body. The easiest way to start in the art of magic is by using the following four elements:

- Fire

- Water

- Wind

- Earth"

"After you take ambient mana into your body you give it shape using your understanding of the said principle or element, if you want to create a tornado of fire, you will think about how hot it is, the shape, the speed, but ultimately you'll be limited by how much mana you can control within your own body. ... You don't retain the mana that you use to create spells, but how developed your veins and pool are will determine the firepower of your spell, and your understanding of a principle itself will determine how far into that path you can go. That being said there are no limitations on how many paths you can walk, but the more all around you lessers will try to be, the more you will lack in depth, the choice is yours to make."

That's almost all of it done ... The last part is the hardest, the true cold reality of what awaits these pitiful creatures ... but something doesn't seem right. Now I can feel it, how long has it been there? ... no, it probably was always there, and only now I became aware of it. There's something different about this planet... a scent that I can't quite grasp, it's familiar, yet alienating at the same time ... Now's not the time to worry about that, I need to complete my mission and return to my lord.

"The Four Great races not only have been the first to awaken, soon after THEY created everything, they were also the first to receive blessings from The Greater One ... Each of the four races have been given the ability to naturally use an edict of The Greater One power, and they are as following:

- The Dragon Race: Edict of Time

- The Leviathan Race: Edict of Space

- The Demon Race: Edict of Destruction

- The Angel Race: Edict of Creation

The Four Races with the four edicts of power are the major players in this war, they will be the ones to come to you, they will be the ones to sing your ode of alliance or ... sing your requiem."

While it's true that The Four Races have the four edicts power, power that The Greater One used to create everything, the truth is that it comes naturally ... we do not possess a deeper understanding of it, and I always think about why that is. As a dragon I'm subject to this fate. If I become strong enough in the art of normal magic, using the edict of time will become as natural as breathing for me, yet I can't comprehend how it works at its basis, and neither does my lord...

That's the unfortunate fate for us, we were born in greatness but we can't ever fully comprehend the length of our power, we can never reach our greatest potential... But that's irrelevant, these lessers, they don't need to know more because they will never reach our point anyway.

The greatest mages from the alliances that formed in the past were chosen based on their prowess in magic, but not even one has ever shown signs of being able to use any of the edicts, perhaps unless they are blessed like us they will never be able to ... which is what gives us leash on them... The reality that they don't need to know is that no matter how much they try they will never be able to reach the potential of a prime race leader and not even their elites.

"And since now you know ... train humans, train like your life depends on it ... because it does. You have ONE YEAR from tomorrow to try understanding and developing your magic, in this one year teleportation gates will be naturally built on your planet, they allow interstellar travel. And after this period is over ... we will come for you ... so prepare ... make us see something in you, make us want to make you our allies ... and if you will choose to go another way ... the choice is yours. But remember, the dragons always value a strong ally. " I said in a tone trying to give them excitement and at the same time fear, trying to rile them up, but keeping a regal presence, not as giving advice but as reciting an order to them.

"Until we meet again..."

And I left, my last mission as the mediator now complete, my long years of work in this role finally came to an end. Now it's time to return to my lord and prepare ... After all, not long after this charade is over the real war will start ... The ultimatum they have is nothing compared to the ultimatum we possess ... And that scent or maybe radiance, what's around this planet that gives me second thoughts ... While it's true that I didn't notice it at first, when it struck me it felt ... absolutely terrifying.
