Chapter 15 - Chapter 15

Mathew swallowed hard the saliva in his mouth. His eyes were filled with confusion. He never expected that things would turn this way quickly.

"1." The echo of the microphone pierced his ear as the count began by the police. Mathew felt pressured and at the same time, he started thinking of how to get himself off the net of the police.

"Hello, sir. Are you there?" Mathew had forgotten he didn't end the call earlier and when the recipient expected him to complete his words, he didn't.

By the time he heard the voice from his phone, angrily, he ended it so as not to complicate issues for himself.

"8." He had to step out of his house on the count.

Mathew placed his hand above his head and he went on his knees.

Few police officers approached him with their guns pointed at him. "Your attention is needed at the police station for interrogation."

Mathew was surprised and he spoke up. "Is that why you've to bring an entire fleet to my house? I thought you came here for something more important."

"This is important Mr Mathew. When you get to our custody, you will understand the gravity of what is going on."

'What could be going on that I don't seem to have a clue?' 'With what was said now, the police officers are still investigating which means they don't have any evidence.' Mathew thought in his head. He was bothered.

The officers soons held Mathew's hand backwards and cuffed him before voluntarily taking him to the car.

Joe was still at the hospital and he was about to take his leave when he heard the ring of his phone. "Hello, sir. He has been arrested."

Joe sighed. "Make sure you get the truth out of him." He titled his eyes before he ended the call.

That day was just meant to be Joe's acquaintance with his office. He never expected what he was dealing with. He was escorted out of the hospital and by the time he got out, Joe was surprised with the view before him.

Fourteen extra black cars were parked outside. Two bodyguards came out of one of it and they approached Joe.

Joe furrowed his gaze at them and he spoke up immediately they got to him. "What is the meaning of the cars parked here?"

"Sir. Whenever a person of your caliber is going anywhere, it's more like a culture to be accompanied by a convoy." "It came late to me that you were headed to the hospital and that was why we arrived so late. Please, forgive me."

Joe was short of words. He stepped forward and his car was opened by the bodyguards. He stepped into it and he was taken back to the company.

It was evening already by the time he got back. A lot of people have vacated the company. The Assistant President spoke up. "Sir. The company is closed for the day."

"I can see that. I am heading home right away." The Assistant President bowed her head. When the driver heard what was being discussed behind him, he started the car engine and continued the drive at once.

Sophie got home that day only to meet furious Kane. He sat on the sitting room couch. Sophie was angered with the way Kane had behaved earlier. She challenged him.

"What is your problem? Why would you leave me behind?" That only got on Kane's nerves.

"You dare have the mouth to speak to me after all the woe you have brought upon me?" "With your ill-words, you have successfully put me in trouble." "I know I am a mess already. I didn't only take you from him, I humiliated him."

Sophie gave it a thought but she still finds it hard to believe it. "Are you certain that Joe is not just pulling a stunt? How can we be sure that he is the CEO of the company?"

"Why are you talking like a fool? Didn't you see he was being led by bodyguards? Didn't you see the respect given to him? Are you that blind?"

Sophie found his words provoking. "Stop hurling insults at me. I just find it difficult to believe. That's all."

"It's better you believe now and let's find a way to fix things with him. If not, I am doomed already."

"Calm your nerves. You can't stoop so slow to fix things with him. Find another way around it."

"Do you have any idea? If there is none, I am going to worship his feet and beg him. I can't afford in any way to lose the contract I have been aiming for so that my company will rise once and for all."

Sophie finds his words annoying. "If you still want me to be your wife, you dare not go plead before the miscreant. Don't you know he will feel big and high about himself?"

Kane hissed and pushed her sideways. "Continue to talk like a fool. I am out of here to fix what I have brought upon myself."

That came as a surprise to Sophie. "Are you going to plead with him in his house this evening?" Her eyes bulged.

"What other time would be more suitable? Joe can at any time call the meeting and have the contract given out. I won't miss out because of my silly mistake."

Before Sophie could talk, Kane went into his room to change his clothes.

Joe arrived at home and when he stepped into the mansion, Morgan was in the sitting room watching TV.

"Mr Mathew. You are on suspicion for attempting to Murder one Miss Bianca who was shot in the chest." "I heard you have not been on good terms with her. Is that why you wanted her dead?"

Mathew felt a pressure in his chest. His eyes widened and he swallowed hard the saliva in his mouth before he decided to give a reply. "I don't know what you are talking about. I have been on good terms with Miss Bianca. Maybe she is at war with me, I can't tell. But I don't hold any grudges against her."

The police officer in charge of the interrogation scoffed. He pulled out his phone from his pocket and he opened a video. The police officer extended it to him.

Mathew collected it and when he saw the video footage, his heart was almost removed from his chest.

"Mr Mathew. What can you say about that?"

He furrowed his gaze at the officer unsure of what to say.
