Sophie hissed aloud. "Regret my foot! The only thing I regret is ever loving you."
Those words echoed in Joe's ear as he opened the door of the hotel and walked out of it.
Joe never expected Sophie; his wife to do that to him. His heart tightened to his chest and he could feel his breath heavily puffing out of his nostrils.
What he just saw seemed like a nightmare. Everything happened so fast. And to think, that day was Sophie's birthday. Joe had thought to impress her with the gift he would buy for her. He wasn't expecting the shock the universe had for him.
He got out of the hotel. He was unsure of what to do. It was as if a cloud covered his brain such that he couldn't think. Nah..! Nothing covered his brain. His mind couldn't just hold the heartbreak. He could feel his heart shattering into pieces.
It was as if he should give up on this world. 'This world has nothing to offer me other than pain.' He thought in his head while he walked aimlessly on the street.
Joe convinced himself that everything hadn't ended. Maybe she would change or rather plead when she comes home.
Little did Joe know that what was coming would drive him insane.
After a lot of pondering where he stood. He sagged his head and he went home. He was restless and he was patiently waiting for his wife to come home. At least, to have some time to talk.
On that day, it took Sophie a very long time to return home. Joe grinded his teeth and he clenched his fist.
'She is still with that piece of shit.' He was getting furious. Not too long, he heard the hinges of the door make some noise.
'That must be her.' Joe was ready to challenge her but he was met with the greatest shock of his life.
Sophie came home with the man Joe saw at the hotel earlier today and when they appeared before Joe, he was more furious than ever.
"Have you no shame? You brought your side chick to our matrimonial house. What is your problem? Have you lost your sense of reasoning?" Joe arched his brows. His heart was burning in anger.
Sophie looked him in the eyes. She swallowed the saliva in her mouth. "Don't you dare insult my man! Joe. This man here is no side chick, his name is Kane. I brought him home so he could replace you."
Those words hit Joe from a different angle. He was confused. "And what do you mean by that?" The lines on Joe's forehead showed.
Sophie breathed out. "I know that empty skull of yours won't be able to process what I said. I would rather break it down. Joe! It is over between us. I am no longer interested in this marriage. These are the divorce papers." Sophie brought out the divorce papers from her bag and it shocked Joe to his bones.
His eyes widened with bewilderment.
"What! Sophie. It hasn't gotten to this. You must be mistaken." Joe could feel his heartbeat hitting his chest.
Sophie chuckled. "I am not mistaken! The only mistake I made was to fall in love with you in the first place. I didn't know what came over me and now that I have realized myself, I totally regret the day I met you. Take the divorce papers."
While Joe was still hesitating to collect the papers, Sophie threw the paper at him. "Sign those papers now."
For a moment, it looked like a dream. She cheated on him and now he had to be the one to face the consequences. Nothing was more painful than that.
"You are unbelievable, Sophie. I am not signing this."
Kane had been patiently standing behind Sophie. And when he heard those words from Joe, it enraged him.
He raised his finger at Joe. "You this scumbag! How dare you have a decision of your own? Sign those papers now or else you will have yourself to be blamed."
Joe's eyes reddened with fury. He looked at him in the face. "I can take all the insults from my wife but not from you. You dare not speak to me in that manner, Or else…"
Kane cut in. "Or else what? What will happen?" He giggled. "Haven't you realized that people like you belong to the street. You should be cleaning gutters and sweeping the street. Not here bragging." "Tell me, what do you own in this place… I can proudly say nothing. So, why don't you save yourself the embarrassment and just sign those papers."
Those words flashed into Joe's ear and now he realized his reality. Indeed, he was a nobody and there was nothing in that house that he owned. He had only been a parasite to Sophie.
He shot a glare at Sophie. "Is this your final decision?"
Sophie looked at him in the face. "Yes. Be fast with the signing."
Joe exhaled. He swallowed the saliva in his mouth. He bent down and he picked those papers.
Joe sat on the couch. He gently signed the papers against his will. After signing the papers, he stood on his feet and he faced his wife.
"How cruel can you be? You cheated on me and now I have to bear the consequences of your actions… all I ever did for the time we have been together was to love you unwaveringly. But now, I regret ever having you as my partner."
Sophie looked him in the eyes. "Good for you. Now, can I have the divorce papers?" Sophie wasn't concerned with what he had said. She was finally happy that she had gotten what she wanted.
Joe handed over the divorce papers.
"Good boy. I know you are aware of what is next." "Go in there and pack all the properties that belong to you. I don't want to ever see you again."
Joe's world came crashing right in his face. Although he was hurt, leaving Sophie's house that night wasn't a good idea.
"You want me to evacuate your house tonight?" Joe arched his brow.
"Yes. Get out of my house now." Joe exhaled. He walked into the house and he packed all his things.
He came out and he shot a deadly glare at Sophie. "I won't forget this day, Sophie." He walked out of the house.
Joe hadn't met a more brutal fate. It was total chaos when he had to sleep on the street. He realized he was back to square one of his life.
And from that night, Joe suffered in the street. He became a beggar not realizing what more was coming.
After three days of his suffering. Something happened. It was more like a twist of fate.
While Joe was walking on the street with his tattered clothings. He noticed a black bus was following him. He tried dodging the black bus, but all of a sudden the black bus caught up with him. The driver packed beside him.
And when Joe was about to run away, he heard something that got him confused.
"Young master! Please don't run." Joe was confused. He stopped for a while. 'Young master?' He thought in his head and that was totally impossible. Nobody could ever call him a young master. Maybe it was a mistake of identity. He concluded that they were kidnapper's and so, he started running.
Suddenly, something hit him. Joe felt a sharp pain on his neck. He groaned in pain before he passed out.
