Janet's POV
Today was good, as usual, but today is the day of my students' midterm exams. So, I am responsible for distributing and checking their exam papers. My class consisted of 40 students in this period and class. But, later at lunchtime, after eating a short and quick lunch, I was checking their test papers when I noticed something off: 6 questions in one test paper and another 4 questions in another had questionable handwriting in their answers. Those answers were correct, but their handwriting looks off. This makes me suspect them of cheating during the exams. I managed to detect some anomalies with my Primary Novel ability, Teacher's Eye, which allows a user to detect cheaters and those who plagiarize or tamper with someone else's work. It is an S-ranked ability.
So, with the names of the culprits on their test papers in mind, after lunchtime was over, at class, I called those two students to stand up. Those two students, a commoner named Ian Marely and a middle-class boy named Erdmann Kalemar, stood up and asked me what was wrong. Showing their test papers with marks on the cheated answers on them, I said seriously and sternly, "Did you two cheat on these exams?"
These two students were taken aback and became nervous, shaking in fear.
"What?"
"N-No, I didn't, sensei!"
Their classmates around them started muttering to each other about them being cheaters.
Putting their test papers down, I said back, "That's it. Come with me to the headmaster's office. Now."
With no other choice, Ian and Erdmann obliged, and we went to the headmaster's office together. There I told the headmaster about their cheating in their test papers and presented my analysis to back up my report. In response, the headmaster, Mark Januarius, believed my report and looked at Ian and Erdmann sternly, before scolding them severely for cheating. As Ian and Erdmann were on their knees in shame, I smiled with approval because of my good work as a professor. "Good job, me."
Third person POV
Later, in the afternoon, Russell came back to the city from his route in Ionawood City. It was a long day, as usual, for him, and in the city street, he pulled over and opened the door for his passengers. "Alright, we are here. That'll be 9 gold coins, 13 silver coins, or 19 copper coins, please." His 17 passengers then grabbed their belongings, stood up, and went to the front, paying the fare according to their ability to pay for it before getting off. Russell and Azalea then got off to open the bus's baggage compartments to drop off the passengers' bulky belongings, including some parcels in wooden crate form. After that, both of them gave the stuff to the passengers, much to their joy and relief. Then, as the passengers scattered to go to do their own business, Russell and Azalea shared a high-five for their teamwork. John was happy for them.
"Man, that was hard work for us," Azalea said to Russell in exhaustion while wiping the sweat off her forehead.
"Yeah, it was," responded Russell back, "but it's worth it, right?"
"Yeah…"
Russell then straightened his back and looked at her. "When we got home, I'll give you some money for your hard work."
Azalea was taken aback by it because she didn't want any money from it, so she objected.
"Are you sure?" Russell asked back in question.
"Yes, I am fine."
"I see, okay. Just ask me, okay?"
"Okay then."
And then, Janet and her two students, Ian and Erdmann, are walking down that street. The three were supposed to go to Ian's and Erdmann's tenement homes to have a talk with their parents about their children cheating in their exams when they saw Russell's bus. Janet was very surprised with shock to see, for she, ever since she was reincarnated into this world, had never rode a bus in this life. So, she ran to it and looked at it, circling it around a few times. Ian and Erdmann were confused, both at her doing and at the bus and what it looked like.
"This can't be real!" Janet's mind said in shock.
And then, Russell, Azalea, and John noticed Janet circling around the bus, and Russell asked her, "Oh, it's you again. What are you doing?" Janet then stopped looking and circling around and glanced at him. "Um, are you its operator/driver?"
"Yes, I am. Why?"
"Your bus is so cool." Janet looked at his bus, then back at Russell and Azalea. "How did you get this? Are you a Renad, too?"
"Um…yes, I am a Renad, and I got this because being a bus driver was my dream job back in my previous life."
Janet was even more surprised to hear that and asked him for more details about his previous life, much to Russell's overwhelming chagrin.
But, Russell did so anyway, in detail. A few minutes later, Janet was surprised to hear his backstory which is16 years long, and his death at the age of 16. "I am sorry for your short life," she said to him, sympathizing with him.
"It's okay," replied Russell back positively and confidently. "I had moved on, and I loved my life in this world."
Janet was amazed and delighted to hear that. "Wow, that's good to hear. I am happy for you."
Azalea and John watched them conversing with each other, wondering about Janet's true identity.
